Adoration of the Shepherds Gerard van Honthorst |
Merry Christmas to all.And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. Luke 2:15-20 (KJV)
May you spend the day with loved ones, remember those who cannot.
Peace and Joy my friends.
Peace and Joy.
Merry Christmas for all it brings and all that it is and for all that it means.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas LL! May the denizens of the White Wolf Mine have Peace and Joy this day and always.
DeleteMay every blessing of the day be part of yours.
ReplyDeleteTo you as well old friend!
DeleteAye....Merry Christmas to all!
ReplyDeleteGod bless us, every one!
DeleteBy the way, that's a spectacular version of my favorite religious song of the season. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteMy Grandfather used to sing that on Christmas Eve. Had a fabulous voice. Hence, it's my favorite also. Merry Christmas to all.
DeleteSuldog - Brings tears of joy to my eyes every time!
DeleteJuvat - That must be a wonderful memory. Merry Christmas mi amigo! Blessings to you and yours!
DeleteProperly sung, it will make me tear up. Improperly sung, it will make me tear up. First one with wonder, love, joy. Second one with wonder, love and joy.
DeleteFirst wonder of the miracle, love of God and man, joy to the world. Second with wonder who the heck actually recorded or had singer sing it, love of violently skipping the song or covering my ears and humming, joy of changing to a good version or that the song is over.
Ah, blessed Christmas Duality.
The Celtic Woman do it right. And the 'Fall on your knees' always gets me darned good.
Same here Beans.
DeleteMerry Christmas to you and your Missus!
It makes Badger muzzles soggy!
DeleteI'll bet.
DeleteMerry Christmas to all the fine bloggers and commenters at this blog. Hope Santa brought you what you wished for, even if you were a bit naughty this year! As far as songs go, my favorite for this season is still Handel's Hallelujah Chorus - but O Holy Night is a close second for me.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and yours Tom!
DeleteHey, I got a lump of coal again!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas all and thanks for a lovely and uplifting post Sarge!
Get enough coal and you can heat your home!
DeleteMerry Christmas Shaun!
Or forge a new blade to fight the tyranny of the Dokkalfar... Or...not?
DeleteOoh, that works for me.
DeleteSanta coal is the good stuff. Just carbon, none of that frou-frou additives and binders. Makes heat and turns iron into steel. And every time you spark one up, an SJW, um, okay, it's Christmas. Ain't goin' there.
DeleteHahaha!
DeleteHappy Christmas! God rest ye merry, gentlemen!

Keep warm up in Santa Land!
Merry Christmas STxAR!
DeleteMerry Christmas to y'all!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Cajun!
DeleteMerry Christmas, OldAFSarge
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and yours!
DeleteMerry Christmas to all, and to all a good feasting with much merriment and joy, as we celebrate His birth.
ReplyDeleteAnd feasting, did I mention feasting?
Which will be, at the Maison de Harcourt, roast turkey breasts (2, better ratio of meat vs non-meat and all white meat) with candied yams, cornbread dressing, cranberry, with cherry pie and mince-meat pie for dessert. Yum.
Food, oh my word food. We feasted at the Olde Vermonter's place. I might be hungry again someday. Stuffed I am.
DeleteBeautiful performance and I do like some versions more than others.
ReplyDeleteMy Dad loved that song, and I have to blow my nose in a good way when I hear it.
And a Merry Christmas to all of those who are far from home and loved ones.
That song takes my soul to dizzying heights. A favorite.
DeleteJoyeux Noel et Bonne Année Sarge. I do appreciate the softer, well sung Christmas songs, rather than the pop tripe that gets overplayed on the radio. There's some good songs in that latter mix, but when radio stations start them before Thanksgiving, they can get old fast.
ReplyDeleteI love the old standards, this one perhaps most of all. Joyeux Noel mon bon ami!
DeleteMerry Christmas Sarge, Tuna, Juvat, Beans, and everyone else.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Aaron!
DeleteMerry Christmas to all!!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I have eaten waaaaaaay too much!! Polish Christmas Eve dinner (6 kinds of pierogi, "green stuff" which turns out to be chopped cabbage cooked with salt pork then had pureed split peas mixed in...tasted YUMMY...and fish, and bobka, and rice pudding) and then went to Christmas Dinner with my parents turkey with all the trimmings, and then dessert at my son's house (fudge!!) and then back to the house where the landlady had made a full ham dinner with all the trimmings. And more cookies.
I might be hungry again by Friday...maybe...
And is it only me? Mr Van Honthorst must have been having a bad day when he painted Baby Jesus' nose?? It just looks...odd...the rest of the picture is wonderful...but that nose is just...off some how.
Yeah, that nose. Might be a Dutch thing?
DeleteMerry Christmas Suz!
