Traveling on this Second Day of Christmas. Back to hearth and home, back to the feline staff who have been in the care of their Godmother (next door neighbor who rescued them from the wild 'lo these many years past), I shall be reflecting on the lessons of Christmas and what will be in the year to come. And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel. And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;(Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed. Luke 2:25-35 (KJV)
May we have Peace, may the disagreements and troubles of the past remain in the past. Be a light unto a dark world...
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. John 8:12 (KJV)
Vacation continues...
Enjoy the vacation Sarge, the days slip by too fast neh? This neck of the woods has been enjoying above average temps for several days, the white layer is dwindling......good! Now back to the cookies.
ReplyDeleteCookies! Yay! We packed a bunch of those home from my Mom's. Good stuff!
DeleteThis time of the year lends itself to the thinking of important thoughts. And while we're distracted with that, out dogs and cats get us trained up to near perfection!
ReplyDeleteSafe travels and thanks for kicking my mind down the light rabbit hole!
We got back from New Hampshire about an hour ago. An eventful and lovely trip to the homeland with uneventful travel both there and back again.
DeleteI have been thinking very deep thoughts, mostly, "Should I have another eggnog?" To which the answer is, invariably, why yes, yes I should!
Our Boxing Day adventure? Off to the Pain Doc because the Affordable Care Act won't allow him to write 3 months worth of scripts, nor write scripts 2-3 weeks in advance (it will allow him to write 2 months worth, barely.)
ReplyDeleteAnd at 1pm. Double bleh. That's when my colon has been trained to finish dumping.
Triple bleh. And then we have to go to the store and drop the script off, then to home to wash the stink of humanity off of us and crash, to awaken like vampires, except to turkey and all the fixings, instead of some virgin's neck, which would most likely land us on the sexual predator list, which is not good.
Other than that, clear sailing other than a brief foray into the light tomorrow to pick up the script (no, I don't want to wait the 20 stated minutes, or the 20-40 additional unstated minutes at the store. In, out, home to my bed. Bleh.)
Still gotta make a yule kage and a poteca and prep for pizza night and hamfest 2020 (leg of pig-ham, versus radio-ham.)
Well some of that sounds just awful, though the last bit sounds delightful.
DeletePizza night, that was our traditional Christmas Eve repast, courtesy of Charlestown House of Pizza. (If you're ever in that neck of the woods, damned fine pies they make.)
Lazy day in the Tuna household. New phones for the "kids" so we'll be getting those set up today. Also braving some heavy rain and apparently some snow just east of us, to the point of closing the freeway. That's a rarity in these here parts. I was good and didn't eat myself to discomfort yesterday, but maybe a good walk with the beasts is in order.
ReplyDeleteI did rather overindulge yesterday, with both food and adult libations. But it was most excellent nevertheless.
DeleteYeah, Sandy Eggo has been getting swamped I see. Hope you won't have to man the pumps!
A late morning greeted us with sunny skies and cold temps - but no rain! Today brings no cooking or social worries. Yesterday I succumbed to making the rib roast, potatoes, gravy, various dips and a cheese plate. The birthday daughter (curiously named “Noelle”), brought green bean casserole, the boy who sleeps with her and their kids. Our joy! My son the cop came with “he who carries the name forward”. His lady, his lovely lady, in our opinion, had to go to SFO to drop her kids off for a trip to Colombia, (yes, that one, down South of here). I think I drank a whole bottle of Roederer Estate Brut over the course of the day, but I don’t remember for sure. A great day for we two and I hope the others as well. As the children and grandchildren get old they grow thoughtful and conversational. I’m glad, but I do miss the toddler aspect of it all.
ReplyDeleteI so get that "thoughtful and conversational!" I remember when my kids began to have opinions and thoughts and dreams of their own. A proud, yet wistful, moment. Now the older grandchildren are moving in that direction, but are still young enough to be silly with their old Grandpa.
DeleteLife can be grand, can't it?
+1 to Dave's last. In that vein, a point of light for me. Two of our kids (daughter and youngest son) bought me the same book, after browsing the available selections--

They both had a brief 'Oh crap' moment when we opened gifts, but it truly warmed my heart the they both had chosen that book for me, and I told them so.
Overindulge yesterday? Among other dishes, daughter (we were at her and hubby's house) made a crock pot of this--

Oh, my. Almost had to post a guard. I brought a bottle of this--

Like the sign in her kitchen says "Get your fat pants on".
Sounds like you had a wonderful time RHT447. Can we get a book report when you're done reading it?
DeleteRoger that. Posted on the mission board.

DeleteSilly is good.

DeleteI was a good girl and went to work today. Was happy to see that most folks were still home, so the road ways were clear. I stayed away from any streets that went close to shopping centers...I learned my lesson again on 12/23 when the entire world was trying to get into or out of Wilton Mall in Saratoga...sat for 30 min to go about 2 miles. UGH!!.
ReplyDeleteHad a lovely day yesterday with the parents, the son, daughter in law and new grandkiddo...no, he is not at the thoughtful discussion stage yet...he was thoughtfully trying to figure out how he might be able to climb up the back of the sofa, but then was distracted by a full bottle of formula. The training begins early!!
the weather cooperated wonderfully!! I heard rumors of freezing rain tonight and again Sunday night into Monday. The daytime highs have been in the 40's!! Not very common for Upstate NY. But I am not complaining, not at all!!
Glad you returned to home base safely and well provisioned with yummy goodness Sarge!!
I'm pretty sure that I have been to that mall. The Nuke lived in Saratoga Springs while in training to be a Nuke. Small world. We visited at New Year's quite a few years back. Snowed every day!
DeleteGlad your holiday was good Suz.
