It would be this one.
In the photo above, with time running out and trailing by four points, Army goes for it on 4th down ...
They were two feet short, Navy ball.
With less than a minute and a half to go, and Army with no timeouts remaining, Navy just had to take a knee to run the clock out.
I hate to see either team lose. Young men and women who, for the most part, have dedicated themselves to a tradition of service. Opponents on the field, brothers and sisters in arms off the field.
Army got to sing first, no one at either school wants that ... |
Navy, as is customary for the victor on the field, sang second. |
There is hope America, you're looking at it here. |
For those of you wondering why an Air Force guy roots for the Navy, all three kids were Navy, one son-in-law is still on active duty in the Navy (Big Time). The other, Tuttle, actually went to Annapolis. Go Navy, Beat Army.
Are there any avowed Communists in either school, as there were a few years ago? My sincere prayer is that not any of THOSE are "winners."
ReplyDeleteMM, I missed that report can you point me to it?
DeleteSarge, this is a link: https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/army-boots-west-point-grad-who-touted-communist-revolt-n884941
DeleteInteresting, thanks
DeleteGeez Mark, must you always be so damned negative?
DeleteTB - I knew of that case, the weak sumbitch didn't play football.
DeleteI merely try to tell the truth.
DeleteLighten up man, not everything is a crisis.
DeleteAnd then the Navy and the School did not boot out the teachers that helped radicalize the young communist. That is the issue. Oh well. GO NAVY!!!!
DeleteUm, West Point, most emphatically NOT Annapolis.
DeleteThat is one of the games that you want the losing side to succeed, just for the sheer impossibility of the attempt.
ReplyDeleteYes, very true.
DeleteAs always with hindsight, perhaps I should have gone to the Preparatory School at Bainbridge and then on to the Academy...
ReplyDeleteChoices man, you make 'em then move on.
DeleteI was offered same in Boot Camp. Dad advised against it to my surprise. Once again events have proven my Dad to be the smartest guy I know.
DeleteBoat Guy
Most Dads are way smarter than we think.
DeleteI like a good hard-fought game.
ReplyDeleteI do not like incompetent high school games, either at high school or college level. Thus, my old HS, the year I graduated, throwing the ball out to stop the clock on a 4th down with 90 yards to go with only seconds left in the game and it was intercepted. At our own homecoming, against the strongest school in the district (for like 10 years running). Because some brilliant idiot thought that being homefield during homecoming would give our team magic super powers. Not. At least our band was nationally rated, unlike our team. It's bad when most of the fans are there to watch the half-time show because they are fans of the band and not the athletes.
Yeah, that sucks. But hey, a good band is a thing of beauty.
DeleteAt Wisconsin they come for the game, but they stay for the band, as the saying goes. I got to see them at a Rose bowl many years back and I would have to agree, that band puts on quite a show.
DeleteRose Bowl has had some great halftime shows over the years.
DeleteThat fake punt on 4th down was definitely the key play, in a well-fought game. I'm amazed that it wasn't drawn up, with that tailback not realizing he was going to get the ball.
ReplyDeleteYup, that was the key.
DeleteI’m not displeased that the South Hudson Institute of Technology lost. Not at all.
ReplyDelete🤣
Delete"...a good band is a thing of beauty." I didn't know you were a big fan of LSU football & "The Golden Band From Tiger Land" Sarge! :) Geaux Tigres! BTW not to be picky picky picky but I've never been enamored of "special" "one of" uniforms for big games a la the Academies nor of the "uni-color" look top to bottom. Don't even like it when my Bayou Bengals eschew the trad purple, gold, & white for their all-white unis (helmet, jersey, & pant). I'm a firm traditionalist in that regard.
ReplyDeleteThe "special" uniforms are all the rage now.
DeleteI wonder who pays for all that kit?
Could it be to give another reason for "fans" to buy yet another Jersey from the school's web-site or souviner (sp?) shop at the student union?
Delete*souvenir*
DeletePS: Of course increased jersey sales wouldn't cover total up-front costs of entire kit--which probably would be met via increased student fees & Increased tuition costs--proving once again that GREAT POLITICAL PHILOSOPHER Lilly Tomlin's maxim that one can never be too cynical.. :)
ReplyDeletePPS: Should have said ".... that my favorite " :)
