As my colleague V said, "I'm out here to work, I'll take time off when I get home."
Amen to that.
But this trip is something of a mop up, clearing up a few things in order to get this system ready for prime time. We're just about there, things are a little more relaxed right now.
We had Saturday off.
You heard that right.
So, you're working Sunday?
No, no we're not, we're looking at the rare circumstance of having two days off, in a row.
Went to Shakespeare's on Friday night with a big chunk of the team. Kind of a bonding thing, kind of a hail and farewell kind of thing. A couple of folks are retiring in just a few months, so this team, as currently constituted, will soon be a thing of the past.
Great folks all, I shall miss them. It's been a rough ride at times, but I wouldn't have missed it for the world.
Juvat will be along on Monday. Not sure if I'll get anything out there on Tuesday, LUSH and her kids are rolling in on Sunday (tomorrow as I write, today as you read). You might say that I'll be kinda busy.
You wouldn't be wrong.

The last time I was in San Diego was 2008 (I think) for ComicCon. What stood out about downtown San Diego was the homeless who started showing up in the late afternoon and staking out their piece of the sidewalk. During the day things were normal then all of a sudden there were people camping all over.

DeleteThe end of a project can be a bittersweet thing, especially if - as you related - some members are essentially looking at this as their last project. And for others - even I find myself in this category from time time - the start asking the question "Do I really want to do another one of these all over again?"

Delete(Don McCollor)...Remember the first day at a power plant troubleshooting a new, heavy, complex, and barely tested sampling instrument that dripped with malfunctions (I had designed it, but somehow things didn't quite get translated to the person putting it together [and he had used the one same color of wire for EVERY electrical circuit]). The plant was having its own problems, so we weren't holding anything up. Arrived at 07:00. Forgot about lunch and supper. Grabbed takeout burgers on the way back. Put keys in locks of our motel room doors at 23:59. "When do we go back tomorrow"? "We have to be back at the plant by 07:00". Pleasant dreams....

DeleteThinking back to earlier times, having two days off on the weekend in San Diego wasn’t always so special.
ReplyDeleteThe Recruit Training Command was at the Naval Training Center.
Weekends were when at least two battalions of recruits got liberty, ad they flooded downtown.
I would try to find some way out of town.
I hear you, spring break is going on now, town seems swamped with turistas. When out here to work on the ship, a day off means a day in the rack!
