So yes, then I went and played with "What Would You Look Like As A ..."
Great fun.
I often picture myself in other times, then I realize that most of the little amenities we take for granted in these times didn't exist back then.

Clean water. Bathing, good Lord people didn't bathe much back then in the West. What a stinky time that was.
Food, really good food, readily available ...
"Sir Morris?"
"What now, Marcus?"
"Can we stop and get something to eat? I haven't eaten since we left Norwich!"
"Right then, we'll just stop the column and wait for fast food places to be invented."
"Sir Morris?"
"What, Johnnie?"
"Are we there yet ..."

Anyhoo, I'm tired even after sleeping a fairly solid ten hours Thursday night. Looks like an early night here as well.
Hey Phil, I downloaded that Hermann Löns book, really excellent stuff!
As a sort of primer, try The Warwolf by Herman Lons. It is fictional but gives a good insight into the period. A really clean and free download here:

At 160-odd pages, not a long read.

It really is good, turns out that the author was a very interesting guy as well. More on him later ...
Ciao!
Thanks for the book link, not usually a big fan of historical fiction, I prefer the raw stories, but will give this a look based on your recommendation.
ReplyDeleteIt's really excellent background for my proposed next project.
DeleteThat last photo Sarge, I'd vote shamus.
ReplyDeleteI lean in that direction myself.
DeleteBottom photo- looks like the subject is a musician.
ReplyDeleteNote the right shoulder somewhat lower, as if holding his violin case. For his cherished instrument to better provide allegro, fortissimo or staccato emphasis when he performs. Not a fine old instrument of spruce, maple and ebony, but one with oiled walnut and polished steel. Not by Stradivarius, but a creation of John Taliaferro Thompson.
Now, how about a Valentine's day performance, sir?

Heh, might could be!
