Coming on top of my lethargy as regards posting on a daily basis, Your Humble Scribe, The Missus Herself, and The Nuke were all "gifted¹" with a lovely stomach bug. For myself and the wife, it was uncomfortable and kinda painful, but for The Nuke, she felt the first symptoms on a flight to London. For a series of meetings with our allies.
Her boss held off on flying until Monday, as he was sick, she was hit while airborne. Last I talked to her, she missed being in person at the meetings and spent most of her time in bed, at the hotel. When she wasn't visiting the W.C.
Yes, I spent a lot of time on the porcelain throne over the past cuppla. Ya know, pondering matters of state and the like.
Tuesday I began to regain some semblance of health.
But for a few days, this song was my theme song ...
But I'm getting better, all the time ...
Dear Lord, what would I do without music?
¹ Interestingly enough, at least to me, the word "Gift," auf Deutsch, means poison.
Good to read there's been some improvement Sarge, those kind of bugs are tenacious.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed.
DeleteCondolences and healing prayers for all who suffer such maladies.

Thanks, JB.
DeleteNo fun at all - especially while travelling or not at home.
ReplyDeleteWe had a very - very - mild stomach bug during our recent travels. For me, the first time in a very long time where I was away from home and not pleasant. Even with that mildness, it still made for an unpleasant time.
The wife and I were lucky, The Nuke was not. She's on the mend though.
DeleteApparently that is going round. Had similar symptoms last week. No fun! Get well soon, but take it easy in doin so!
ReplyDeletejuvat
Yes, and it's a PITA. (Literally!)
DeleteUgh!! Guess it is going around. My Dad has also been dealing with similar symptoms. At 95 years old, I am a tad nervous, so have been pushing ginger ale on him to drink instead of his normal very strong, regular tea, and similar BRAT diet type stuff. Thought we had it licked as he had been improving, and yesterday was a "good day", but it evidently struck again last night/this morning. He hates going to the doctor, although he does like his new one, and this is his tough time of year as my folks wedding anniversary was this weekend. Would have been the 68th one but Mom has been gone for almost 3 years now. Other than the diarrhea, he feels fine, just tired. So I just thought it might be some anxiety, but maybe someone has blessed him with a stomach bug after all.
ReplyDeleteBeing sick on an oversees flight sounds like a definite new level of hell!! Hope she is feeling better quickly!!
Suz
The Nuke is feeling better, I spoke to her this morning.
DeleteSven the Cat sends his sympathy, and hopes you are fully well, soon.
ReplyDeleteGetting there. Tell Sven I said "Hi."
DeleteBeing a fellow "Nuke" I feel for her. Heck, I don't need to be a Nuke to "feel", just a human.
ReplyDeleteOnly "met" one female Nuke, at Power School in Orlando, she was staff. Things changed after I got out.
The Nuke field is/was a great place for females to excel (especially officers). I'd recommend it to officers... enlisted females...Rock what you can!
She's damn good at her job.
DeleteHad a couple of "run ins" with Naval Reactors in my time in... Profession-able, polite, surprisingly willing to take criticism when warranted.
DeleteDon't know how to describe this... I was following a procedure to "stir" the Steam Generators (chemistry control when shutdown). Every time we did this the operator would get douched with water. I was "Bitching like a Sailor" and NR (Naval Reactors) dude walks 'round the DFT as I was about to get douched, swearing to beat hell... He asked what the problem was... and since they wore civvie clothes you don't know their rank. I let him have it... both barrels of truth... About how PHuuuqed the procedure was. Turns out he was a full bird Captain, and he had written the procedure, that I was Bitching about... He accepted my criticism, and to my relief, re-wrote the procedure.
I have a couple more "NR" stories
DV,
DeleteRather be lucky thann good! Seems you were that day!
juvat
DV - Sounds like you dealt with the best of NR.
DeleteJuvat - Always.
DeleteNR was a pain in the ass. But. They were absolutely nessisary. We have a safety record,. second to NONE! It's because of them and the trained recruits, (and Osifers) that hold that safety record... How many reactors on how many vessels... How many years? Not one mistake. You can't deny the training...
DeleteTheir job is being a PITA.
DeleteThe legacy of Adm. Rickover. Nothing less than perfection. Always!
DeleteHave to.
DeleteMy transition to civilian "malaise" in engineering was a slap in the face. Attention to detail was almost an "antiquated" concept. I'm winding down my mechanical engineering career. What I see from those they hired recently, our infrastructure is in trouble.
DeleteInfrastructure, ATC systems, combat systems, comms systems, many of the new kids aren't that well-trained, IMHO.
DeleteI try to pass on knowledge, but it's almost like they don't want to learn. Don't get me started on "it's not what you say, it's HOW you say it" They're "offended at the "tone" of my voice??? I was voice trained in choir and theater, before having to use my "voice" in a steam plant. I will be heard when need be. Perhaps that is somewhat off-putting to the "gentler"... people. I am tall big and loud... a teddy bear.
DeleteOne son working on a masters in electrical engineering, the other is in aeronautical engineering (this one has actually given a presentation to a couple guys from "Skunk Works") I'm trying to give back.
DeleteSo many people seem to get sick on airplanes these days, more than I remember before.... Anyhoo, glad Nuke's on the mend and yours doesn't last too long. - Tuna
