You forgot to add Hizzoner's very useful all purpose admonition on such occasions:
"Talk amongst yourselves."
So, here's a pro tip for homeowners who experience a sudden lack of hot water. It MAY not be a catastrophic failure of your somewhat elderly heat source surrounded by water, similar to a boiler. In some cases, it may be to some oafish person accidentally nudged a little twisty knob a bit from "hot water that feels great in showers and washes dishes nice and sparkly clean" over to the "meh, lukewarm at best" position. Some would suggest that you critically scrutinize the details of this possibility before calling your plumber friend. Especially if you want to avoid later admissions of intellectual deficiency. At least, I have heard this possibility is something good to consider. John Blackshoe
JB: Sounds like something I have been known to do...maybe...probably...fortunately, I had called my adult son for a quick assist...He knows me well. All that call cost me was some peanut butter cookies. :) So now I have a ticky list I go through before I call anyone...usually before I even panic: If it is something that plugs in, check to see that it is. If it is a computer/tablet/cell phone: check to see if the battery is dead...if so, charge it. If it is turned on and frozen: reboot. If it is a house mechanical thing: unplug it and then plug it back in. If it is something that is gas powered, be sure the fuel switch is turned on. Then, if none of that works, then I can panic and call someone.
OAFS: both you, the Mrs, and the Muse are allowed to go on vacay and play with the grands. It's what's allowed now that you are RETIRED!! Will admit, am really, really liking that backyard picture up above. Lovely!!! My goal for this spring/summer is to get my backyard into some shape other than disaster.

Was going to actually post something, or was planning to, and, well, life intruded. Most rudely.
