That tank in the photo, it's still there, in La Gleize, Belgium. I've been there ...

But I had a fine meal on Friday with The Missus Herself at a local eatery and ...
Well, I just figured it out. I've got the pre-vacation anticipatory jitters, or something. In a few weeks I'll be here ...

Grandkids love it too.
Relaxing time approaches, just not fast enough.
Oh well ...
We'll get there when we get there. In the meantime, I'll try and scrape something together for Sunday. The cupboard is pretty bare right now.

Enjoy a break - no doubt you've earned it. I invite you to ruminate on this poem that I have just come across.

An armed merchant cruiser up against a German cruiser,, not a fair fight at all! But she did her job, as I recall most of the convoy she was escorting escaped.
DeleteEvery bit as brave as HOEL; JOHNSTON; HEERMAN and SAMUEL B ROBERTS.
DeleteYup.
Delete(Don McCollor) In the aftermath, the tanker San Demetrio loaded with naphtha was shelled and set on fire with the crew abandoning ship. Two days later, one of the lifeboats sighted her drifting and still on fire. They reboarded her, and were able to put out the fires, pump out the engine room and start the main engines. They then set sail east alone without radio, charts, or navigational instruments. Seven days later they made safe harbor in Ireland.
DeleteWow!
DeleteDoes anyone visit Virginia's Western Shore?|
ReplyDeleteEnjoy. You deserve the time away from the keyboard, you don't get paid to entertain the rest of the world.
As they say, "Death walks in heavy boots, but life is like a golden slipper which is more valuable than a blind man sitting in a bow of coleslaw."
Not going for a couple of weeks yet, but the anticipation is overwhelming.
DeleteAntici....
DeleteYup.
Delete...pation.
DeleteHeh.
DeleteWell now, thunder with treads, any day that starts off with a tank is a good day........:) Vacation away from the homestead is always a good thing.
ReplyDeleteThunder with treads ...
DeleteI like that.
It's your life, enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteAlways!
DeleteSarge, the "empty tank" is a real thing (wow, I think I made a double pun there for this post). I suspect that is why I had to create a more structured "schedule" for the week (which I can, of course, violate at will). It at least narrowed where the creativity should be for any given day.
ReplyDeleteThat said, daily writing can be difficult. I have come to appreciate anyone that does any sort of daily creative activity all the more.
Have a great trip! That picture of the sea looks amazing.
Writing is starting to become a struggle as I have so many other interests which I want to pursue and sometimes the writing gets in the way. After 14 years it's hard to push myself to write every day. The photo is of Chesapeake Bay looking west. That place is so beautiful it takes my breath away.
DeleteOdd to think of a town with a line in the municipal budget for Tiger tank upkeep.
ReplyDeleteCorrosion control only, last time the engine ran on that beast was 1945.
DeleteUnderstand completely, Sarge. One has to have a need to write, and you have done some magnificent writing on days past. Hope the Muse shows up after her R&R; we'll still be here.
ReplyDeleteAs with so many places now, the beauty of Virginia is tainted by the commies who have assumed power. Bride has an autumn trip planned but the execute order may or may not be given depending on successful resistance to the current tyranny.
Just back from a road trip investigating potential refuge from the commies who have taken over our state. I'm not at all sanguine as to whether or not this place is salvageable. We've lived here for 18(!) years since returning from overseas but the ruling junta's intolerance has become intolerable. Sad, innit?
Boat Guy
The situation in Virginia concerns me a great deal. How people can think that sort of political ideology can actually work is beyond me. The leaders know it doesn't work for the little people, just enriches the ones in power. But as long as they can convince the little people that it can work, there is no hope.
DeleteIt's beyond sad.
