It was a Grand Time. Was nice to see Chris with all his body parts still in pretty good working order! We need to find a place next time that lends itself to easier conversation and moving around. I'd like to get together again today just to spend time with those that I was unable to last night. All the ladies looked radiant, Chris's wife (Chris must have been a saint in a previous life), Kat, Mary, Kristy, Dwight's wife and the effervescent Robin. They say memory is the first thing to go and I'm afraid they are correct.
Ron Snyder is absolutely right! It was marvelous, laughter, mischief and wonderful conversation over the roar! Absolutely agree about a place more conducive to conversation - then again we might get thrown out as too loud!! Loved seeing each and every one and really getting to know some I’ve known only on fb better! L.J. Neves, Gil Gibson Rick Lobbes and his delightful bride (who is loads of fun and definitely a worthy LexBabe) Daryle Lamonica and more! (And we had our lawyer handy if we needed one!)
It was a night of laughter and good cheer that lifted spirits as spirits were lifted. The ultimate Lex babe, the lovely Mary LeFon kept us in stitches with her tales which included the news that the USNI is soon to publish the collected works of Lex under the title TENDS TOWARD INFINITE. That's going to be a "must have" for my library.
Would that they would publish Lex's entire blog, all comments included. the erudition of the commentariat being fully 50% of its allure (the pithy comments/stories and imitable writing style of Lex being the other attraction..)
That would be best, not sure how much is left via the Wayback Machine. A lot, but Advokaat captured a lot, minus comments, but better than nothing. I understand that USNI will also be publishing "Rhythms." For real.
Closed down Murphy's more than once. And Ireland's Own. And Ireland's Four P's (both location). And ... well, you get the idea. Damn hard not to have a good time at any of those places.
I still wonder if it would be possible to recover the original blog. Bill Brandt has done a wonderful job in assembling pieces found in various places, but there's still quite a bit missing, including images that went with some of the post. Seems possible that the hosting provider would still have a backup tape somewhere, if they could be persuaded to retrieve it and release it.
I'm not sure where all the material for the book came from, I know Herculean efforts were made to recover the blog before it expired. Now some shady outfit in the Far East owns the old site name. Bandits are everywhere.
Before Lex’s blog went down. There was a problem with the database or some thing where one could not access it. Whenever you went to Neptunus Lex you would get an error code
I managed to trace the ISP and they looked into his account and whatever the fix was it was very simple. But even after explaining the situation, they would do nothing without a legal paper designating someone as the new owner.
Which I suppose I can understand from their viewpoint.
At This point all of these years later I doubt if it’s even on a back up tape if you could access it.
And if you could without a legal document it wouldn’t help anyway
The one thing missing of course are all the comments. Looking at those in the way back machine I realized with a lot of the posts the comments were half the fun.
But whatever I captured if it had an illustration I saved it.
I will say that Lex’s website looked a lot nicer than this one.
That is great news that rhythms will be published!
As for the missing I was surprised and going through the way back machine that you could have two and three months with nothing and then the spider would come five times a day.
But while there may be three month gaps advocate got quite a bit.
There was quite a bit of overlap between what advokaat got and what I saw in the way back machine
Still there were a few ones I noticed we are missing such as Ulysses. But I think between the two what we don’t have is pretty small.
While I obviously can’t say what I don’t know what is missing is missing what I do know is what we had between the two was pretty substantial
No I am in furthering what we don’t have is not all that great
👍🏻

DeleteMary surely did, Sarge- she is a joy to be around. Spunky! It was an honor to share part of my dinner with her. :)
