Just to be clear, the following amendments are violated damned near everyday in the United States of America and there are those seeking high political office who wish to violate them, in fact promise to violate them if elected:
- Amendment I: For Congress, or any State legislature to prohibit any form of speech, whether some deem it hateful or not, is unconstitutional. Any elected or appointed official within the boundaries of the United States, who having sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, and now espouses any law or regulation regarding speech is in violation of his or her oath and should be immediately removed from office. Said individual should also be tried in a court of law for violating the Constitutional rights of all Americans.
- Amendment II: All statutes currently on the books regarding arms of any kind are unconstitutional and must be revoked immediately. Any elected or appointed official within the boundaries of the United States, who having sworn an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States, and now stands in opposition to revoking these laws is in violation of his or her oath and should be immediately removed from office. Said individual should also be tried in a court of law for violating the Constitutional rights of all Americans.
- Amendment IX: The first ten amendments to the Constitution are not the only rights held by the citizens of the United States, only those which the Founders thought particularly important and therefore enumerated in that document.
- Amendment X: Anything prohibited to the Federal government is also prohibited to the individual States. A right, is a right, is a right. The Bill of Rights prohibits government from infringing upon the rights of the citizens. At all times.
I don't care which political party you adhere to, the Constitution is for all Americans, not just the privileged few, violate our rights at your own risk.
This bears remembering from time to time.
Just my two cents...
"The goal of Socialism is Communism"....said by Vladimir Lenin........ enuf said.
ReplyDeleteYup, anyone who sayd diffferent either doesn't understand history, or is stupid. But I repeat myself...
DeleteWhiskey rebellion, slavery and usery rulings of the Supremes, and the war with the south on determinations of states rights. But I agree.
ReplyDeleteAll instances of overreaching by the Federal government. The Supremes bend with the political winds, they can't be relied upon.
DeleteWell said. A useful reminder. Unfortunately there are certain segments of our society who have decided that The Constitution is no longer pertinent.
ReplyDeleteAnd they will drive us into civil war if we're not careful with who we elect to office.
DeleteRe: The Big 2A. This means arms. Not just guns. But all arms. That means anything that is considered a weapon. So, brass knuckles, switchblades, those stupid Russkie knives that shoot their blades, apears, swords, spetums, glaives, poleaxes, maces, godendags, naginatas, cannon of all variety, howitzers (old school,) howitzers (new school,) trebuchets, mortars (old school,) mortars (new school,) armed ships, armed horses, armed wagons (all the way back to Zizka and all the way forward to a Mk I Bolo, and so forth.
ReplyDeleteI just got into a long few days slow discussion on another board (hey, I cheated on you, so sue me) over the board owner noticing that Red China is willing to sell us in the USA what are called 'solvent traps' or 'fuel filters' that are actually silencers needing one or two minor things done to them for them to work. Some Brit was freaked because we here in the USA can talk openly about such things, even acknowledging how stupid the laws and the government are (you can have a solvent trap, just can't get caught with a leaky solvent trap (hole drilled in the end) attached to your gun, or have solvent trap in same room as gun and a drill and drill set (seriously, BATFE thinks that makes you a terrorist or something.))
I ended up reminding him that here in the USA (so far) we can talk about stuff like that. We can tell each other why it's bad to do so. We can even go so far as to buy unlicensed solvent traps as long as we don't get caught doing so. We have inalienable rights given to us by a higher power, God, to do so.
I also pointed out that we don't normally arrest our citizens for reporting on sex scandals, or walking out of a knife shop with a knife, or carrying a branch to the street for pickup (all which have happened in formerly Great Britain.)
I just wish our representatives and our state representatives and all who work for or in the government would remember these above 10 simple rules for government.
Good post, as always.
We have a republic. At this point, I'm not sure we can keep it...
DeleteConstructive posession, wheee.
DeleteI’m already on all the dang lists, I’m sure - but I got there above-board and with the tax stamps to prove it, dangit.
😁
DeleteNot sure how secure our republic is, but I think 2A is very secure. Sure, they want to chip around the edges, but it's logistically, politically, morally, and common-"sensically" impossible to ban guns- there are just too many and it's clearly within the constitution and protected by the Supreme Court.
DeleteTHEY will go after the ammunition. It's what they do. They mean to make you and me serfs of the government.
DeleteI hope you're right Tuna...
DeleteBut the Cap'n has the right of it. Though banning/restricting access to ammo IS unconstitutional (what's more "infringing" than a lack of ammo), when has that stopped the progs?
DeleteAlso useful to point out the Bill of Rights grants nothing. Our rights are God given and as such, unalienable. .Gov. does not have the power to grant or revoke them.
ReplyDeleteAs to the 2nd--
Under original intent, the term “well regulated” means working properly and/or well trained. A “free state” is synonymous with “state of freedom”. So try this… A well trained militia being necessary for the security of a state of freedom, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
Yup.
Delete30 years with the navy security forces, more with the Army Boy Scouts and 1st Infantry Division as a lad. I'm "well trained and well regulated", or at least, once I was.
DeleteLot of folks like that out there, something the progs should remember.
DeleteRHT447/
DeleteCANNOT emphasize enough the original understanding of the term "well regulated--something 99%+ of present-day America seems to have forgotten--if they ever knew. Even super rabid jurist Lawrence Tribe has come around on the right of individuals to possess firearms:" Without individual ownership you don't get Lexington and Concord."
Roger that.
DeleteI wish that both the Constitution and the Bill of Rights were posted in every classroom in the country. For frequent reading by the classroom inhabitants on a regular basis. So that it all becomes as familiar as who is married to what famous Hollywood star, and what are all the character names in all the Marvel Movies.
ReplyDeleteI also wish that there was mandatory education on basic finance, how to figure out a budget, get out and stay out of debt, how to figure out how much mortgage can be afforded on how much salary, and how to cook from scratch healthy balanced meals for cheap.
I also wish that children in middle school had to take mandatory classes in firearms and archery, learning how to shoot, and how to handle guns and equipment safely and responsibly.
I also wish for the winning lottery numbers.
However, I realize my chances of winning the Lottery are most likely better then the above wishes.
PS: I wish the voters in Bronx and Queens in NY 14th Congressional District would retire Ms AOC back to the Bronx, where she could learn what it is like to work in the real world, in a real job...like the rest of us peons!!
I can't, and in fact won't, argue with you on any of those points Suz.
DeleteI agree with all of 'em!
I would gladly die for our freedoms, but I fear for our freedoms more and more every day. Thank you for this.
ReplyDeleteWe have to stay vigilant.
DeleteI too fear for the future, too many with no skin in the game wanting to make all of the rules.
Even if I was writing at a level far above my normal skills, I couldn't write as well as Sarah Hoyt did yesterday.
Deletehttps://accordingtohoyt.com/2019/08/07/but-then-that-must-mean/
She begins by saying, "Humans are addicted to story."
She makes a good point about the media.
"This is becoming more and more a problem as our news media is completely, blatantly and unreliable (to be fair they probably always were, but now we have other sources of information. RAH said he’d never been present at any event that was correctly reported in the media. My experience is the same. And sometime ask Dave Freer about “police in South Africa are sending attack dogs against protesters.” Because the story is a good example of things I’ve lived through and how they were reported in international media.) and we’ve also stopped trusting institutions like the FBI."
And she also speaks about the left.
"We’re seeing a version of this on the left, which now equates anyone non-Marxist with white supremacist. (Literally. There was an idiot accusing me of that yesterday.) If you say you’re a patriot, they say you’re a white supremacist, because what you really MEAN is “white America, the way it used to be.” Which means they either don’t know history or think you don’t. And their story is so compelling, partly because it absolves them for allegiance to what they are increasingly realizing is a cray and destructive ideology (trust me, most of them do) because it’s the least of two evils. They don’t want to be white supremacists, after all. Because that’s literally Hitler."
She wraps up with very good advice.
"Keep your sanity. Keep in touch with reality.
We’re going to need both, to get out of this mess with a Republic, if we can keep it."
I'm going to add the words spoken by the late actor Fred Dalton Thompson in has role as Admiral Painter in the film, "The Hunt for Red October," "This business will get out of control. It will get out of control and we'll be lucky to live through it."
Great post and great comments.
I have been remiss in adding Sarah to the sidebar.
DeleteError rectified.
Thanks for the link John, Sarah is one of the best.
The rights enumerated include the use of the force of arms when they get infringed. Red Flag laws which see your x calling the police and saying you are a danger is an open invitation to the grave for police trying to enforce their 'right' to disarm the people without due process. What a pity when the people who call themselves "law enforcement" blatantly and repeatedly violate the law of the land.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad and quite a bit disturbing, though some jurisdictions are starting to ignore their political "masters" and are refusing to enforce unconstitutional laws. Seems that it's the big progressive bastions where the police are becoming more and more storm trooper-ish.
DeleteRed Flag laws -- just think of the old Soviet or current Chinese flags as perfectly symbolic of those type of laws.
DeleteGood to re-read all of this. The comments give me hope.
ReplyDeleteThe comment by Suz is so right on. Just had ten days with my 12 and 9 year-old grand kids and I fear for their well being in the near future. I wish all of that native intelligence and energy had just one flicker of interest in the things of this posting.
