Have a wonderful holiday. Let's not forget those who can't be home this year...

From all of us at the Chant du Départ ...

Editor's Note: For those of you paying attention (and not zoned out on wine and tryptophan), yes, this is a rerun. I am "up north" for the holidays, we'll return to our regularly scheduled programming on Saturday. I have a "Post from Poland" for you on Friday. Our Polish correspondent, Paweł, has a bit of historical stuff on the Old Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth for your edification, entertainment, and education. There will be one more installment featuring the Sack of Rome in 1527, not sure when, no later than Tuesday I would hope. (Depends on how zoned out I am from wine and tryptophan over the weekend, I suppose.)

  1. I am oh so thankful for this year. Between all the near-misses and minor and major catastrophes of the last 12 months, personal and familial, not national, I am so glad to still be breathing. And Mrs. Andrew is still above the ground. All else pales in comparison.

Other thank-fuls are, of course, to this blog that gives us an interesting outlook on so many lives, present and past (OldAFSarge's conflict stories, of course, being some of the best fictional reading I've read. He really needs to get published. Raconteur Press through OldNFO should be able to satisfy that need. Please...)

Other other thank-fuls are to my idiotic feckless Puritan ancestors who almost became good communists before they ditched that noble experiment at Plymouth Plantation and became Godly capitalists. Maybe I need to go on X and post that and see how many people scream at me, as their eternal 'reeeeees' powers my soul, bwahahahahahaha.

Thankful for my dad's dad's father for leaving then-unified Germany and coming to New Orleans and between him and his Acadian wife popping out 6 kids (one being my dad's dad) before dying of Cholera in one of the periodic Cholera outbreaks before modern antibiotics and modern pesticides pretty much stopped that from happening (well, until idiot leftists got the pesticides shut down and imported cholera carriers and, well, there's a reason Dad didn't retire in Louisiana and instead settled on the Space Coast.

And so very thankful to my beautiful wife Mrs. Andrew for teaching me how to cook. So far, 2 pies and cornbread are already done, and by 1pm the yams will be candying (boil chunked sweet taters in water with butter, brown sugar and cinnamon until they become soft and the liquid cooks down) and the turkey breasts will be ready to go into the oven and the dressing will mostly be made.

Thankful, of course, oh so very thankful that there may, repeat, may be a course correction for this great nation. We really dodged the neo-feudalistic actual national socialism heading towards international socialism that was the Other Choice. To paraphrase Ben Franklin, we've been handed the republic and we can possibly keep it. It's a tattered, torn republic, but the bones are strong, the roots are still deep and we can clean her up and make her great again.

I hope everyone has a great day with family and friends and no serious drama or issues. May your buns be toasty, your dressing perfect, birds cooked, and on and on and on.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!!
