Lack of Blogging in the Forecast, But I Have an Excuse

There's not going to be a lot of activity here at The Chant this weekend. The Nuke is coming by for a visit as she's in the area and blog buddy Murphy's Law will be in town on Sunday. A trip to this place is planned...

Battleship Cove

Yes, there will be pictures.

In the meantime, read the folks on the sidebar, chat quietly amongst yourselves and don't forget to lock the doors when you leave.

Ciao!

    1. Two superb weekends back to back.

I am blessed, and truly thankful for that.

  2. Don't let Murph get close to any Red Guarded Switches, anything secured with Safety Wire, anything marked with Caution or Danger decals, or any type of projectile or explosive. Any locked object you encounter should remain locked. Any area marked off limits or blocked by police tape should be considered off limits and not entered. Other than that Sarge...Have a good time!

    1. Do you know those dive alarms they have on submarines?

Do you what they sound like six inches from your ear?

You really need to see Murph's sheepish grin, it was priceless.

Yup, he found a switch that works.

All the ships, planes and boats were intact when we left!

    1. That's actually DD-850, the USS Joseph P. Kennedy. Close Skip, but no cigar.

(Sumner and Gearing classes were very similar as I recall.)

    2. I knew that...
I have no idea why I said the Laffey,
Hells bells, the Kennedy was a sister ship of my ship.
But the b-i-l was a radioman on the Laffey, which is another museum ship at another location on the East Coast.

    3. And here I thought you were testing me Skip...

  5. Just ignore that Juvat character. I didn't have any trouble on Nautilus ion Groton today. And I WILL be there, despite this evening's snag in Groton. Call you in the AM.

    1. MrGarabaldi,
Not sure what you mean. The only place I blog is here and that's only once a week as a associate blogger. (If I were in the Navy, that would be acronymed as AssBlog which would be pretty accurate. as that's where I pull most of my stories from). Hopefully you've been here before and read Sarge's (He's PriBlog) and Tuna's (CoBlog) stuff. It's pretty good stuff. Otherwise you've got some catching up to do. But...glad you're here.

    2. MrGarabaldi, Juvat is far too modest. I consider this to be his (and Tuna's) blog as well.

I just get to ring the bell more often...

    3. Juvat, I like the whole PriBlog, CoBlog, AssBlog thing. We should get t-shirts made...

  7. I had the pleasure of going to Battleship Cove when I was a youngster. Enjoy!

  8. Funny, I've been to every part of the US except the Northeast. Closest I've ever gotten is transiting Mcguire AFB in NJ going PCS to the UK and return to CONUS three yrs later, lol. Too bad, I've missed seeing a lot of our nation's history.. (:

    1. My folks came to visit while I was at the Pentagon. They took some of those Greyline bus tours over the course of their visit. They figured they saw 90% of US History's important spots and never got more than 90 miles away. My view (and my view only) was it's a nice place to visit, but you wouldn't want to live there. YMMV as Sarge is wont to say.

    2. Virgil, get your butt up here.

      That is all.

    3. New England is not perfect year-round. God gave us cold winters so we'd appreciate spring and hot summers so we'd appreciate fall.

But yeah, I see your point. BTW, how do humans survive the humidity in DC in the summer? Seems pretty rough at times.

    4. Humidity? DC???!!! Try Baton Rouge or New Orleans. Pikers..

    5. Although places further north on the river like St Louis, Memphis and Louisville get JUST as hot & humid in the summer except its generally three months of suffering rather than five in Louisiana..

    6. Virgil, I spent the summer of '87 in lovely Biloxi. Had a sister-in-law up in Alexandria, LA and another over at Ft Walton Beach in FL. I so understand the humidity in Louisiana. But it wasn't anything a few cold bottles of beer couldn't cure.

    7. Oh yeah, Louisiana is, in general, a much more tolerable place than DC in general.

      Regardless of the weather.

  9. I haven't been there since 1979, but it was neat even then.
