When I'm 64...

From my dear friend, The Florida Flyer
Now that I'm older lost all my hair,
Those many years are now.
No one's sending me a Valentine
Have to buy my own bottle of wine.
(With apologies, of course, to Messrs McCartney and Lennon.)

So as many of you may have surmised from Juvat's Monday post, Monday instant, the 8th of May, was my natal day. Upon which I completed my 64th circuit around the Sun and began lap 65.

Of course, the 8th of May is also VE Day. (Victory in Europe for those who dinna ken. 'Tis the day in 1945 that Les Boches surrendered to the Allied Powers in Europe). It's also Harry Truman's birthday. Nice fellow for a Democrat, has a carrier named after him, fought in the Great War he did, as an artillery officer. Fun fact, as The WSO likes to say.

At any rate, with The Missus Herself still forward deployed to the western portion of the OAFS Empire, it was a quiet natal day. Which I decided late Sunday night to take off from work. As I'm binge watching HBO's Rome it seemed the thing to do, squeeze in one more episode before retiring for the evening. Which turned into two.

Damn you, Titus Pullo.

Anyhoo (as Juvat likes to say, tee hee), it was a quiet and relaxing Monday. Very quiet in the neighborhood, which puzzled me until I remembered that everyone else was at work. Yes, I felt a little guilty. Mind you, only a little.

It was just me and the cats. Wow, did we go crazy. Not.

Slept late, did the blog reading, did the Facebook thing. Read a book. That's about it.

The Olde Vermonter sent me this...

That's our kid brother, The Musician. Now does his nom de blog make sense?

Boy plays a mean guitar...

In other news, the Russians are back. Apparently they were upset that the Lithuanians got all that attention. Russki spambots, they're like skeeters in the summer. Annoying as hell.

There will be another Tuna post upon the morrow. Seems the blogging fever has him in its grips. Or perhaps he means to give the old guy (moi) a break. I don't mind, not at all. Tuna has good stuff.

See you on Thursday, I think. (And hope.)

  1. Well...I'm glad you had a relaxing birthday. When one reaches the age where the Beatles are writing songs about you, one SHOULD take it easy. Now, Back in the Saddle! As someone once said, "Mama needs new shoes!"

    1. Back in the Saddle? Aerosmith? Awesome dude.

(Tuna has a good one which I'm putting up for Wednesday. Not saying I'm lazy, not denying it neither.)

  2. That's a proper way to spend a birthday.

Here's a fun take on that song. The interwebz is full of interesting stuff. Well, partly full.

    1. Ah poor Keith, didn't even make 35. (I wandered into the comments on that video, always a sketchy thing to do. The interwebz is full of stuff. And odd people, very odd people.)

    2. You went into yewtoobe comments? Gah! You're a brave man, Sarge, a very brave man.

    3. I know, I sorta stumbled down that path, heard a click, and before you know it BOOM!

Sometimes I like to skate close to the edge. Sometimes too close.

  3. Unfair, The Olde Vermonter still has hair. Won the gene lottery?

    1. Actually that's The Musician and he definitely won the gene lottery. The Olde Vermonter is even more folically challenged than me.

  4. If you finish Rome and are looking for show recommendations, check out Bosch (which is only on Prime, but a damn good cop show) or if you need more sword-n-sandal, there's always Spartacus: Blood and Tits (Netflix).

    :)

    1. I've seen the promos for Bosch it does look good. Based on your recommendation I'll add it to my watch list. As to Spartacus, I've seen the whole series and need to watch it again methinks, especially now that I'm all into Rome and such.

Your subtitle describes the show very accurately.

    2. The first year of Bosch was good.
      I preferred the books, though.

    3. No! No more books to read! No!

      (Seriously, there are books?)

    4. I liked the second series better than the first, and the third (just released) better yet.

It's only what, twenty novels? Easy peasy.

(I never read the books, so I'm only going by the show. But it's refreshing to see a show where nobody's an idiot, and there's no magic crimey-solvey tech.)

    5. Love it, "no crimey-solvey tech"!

    6. Oh my goodness, are there books. And not only has Michael Connolly written the Harry Bosch books, but then he had to expand those to Harry's half-brother, Mickey Haller, The Lincoln Lawyer. I just finished The Last Side of Goodbye. Typical Connelly: good and entertaining.
I have not read any of the others on this list, so cannot comment:

  5. Wicked good guitar playing! Beautiful guitar as well, I love the simple look and slotted tuning pegs. Looks much like mine, but mine doesn't work or sound as well...probably would if the Old Vermonter was playing it.

    1. The Olde Vermonter sent me the clip, that's kid brother 2, The Musician in the video.

He's very good on the guitar, if I had half his talent, I'd probably still be doing the job I'm doing.

Once upon a time I wanted to be a rock star, for the chicks. ;)

    What... 64?
    Golly, you're still a rookie.

    1. I'm just a wee bairn in the big scheme of things.

While I am chronologically 64, mentally I'm more like 12.

A rather precocious 12 I like to think.

  7. Oh, I've got stuff, but I don't claim it to be good. More like filler- like the bread and chowder they give you at an all you can eat crab-leg place! It just keeps folks from the good stuff that you and Juvat write.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I know you are older than 12 mentally - you can spell.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I find it ironic that Tuna used that analogy.
I always preferred the chowder and bread over the crab anyway, particularly if the bread was SF sourdough French bread

    1. Me too.

Replace the bread with clam cakes and I'm in heaven.

  10. Well kid, your post is good, but the comments are outstanding. Happy to read that you had a relaxing birthday. Still need to find audio devices so I can listen to the videos.
