Ok, Campers, probably be a short one this time. No critical reason, just we're in College Station with the whole clan. Little J has returned to the US for a 5 day visit then heads to Moscow on the Potomac (I know, Beans, it was Sodom and Gomorrah last week. There's enough evil, greed and incompetence in that area to fit all three). Pick up at the airport was relatively painless for LJW and Miss B, rendezvous at Buckees in Bastrop went off without a hitch. Arrival at College Station was on time.
Let the festivities begin. First in importance, MBD is quite pregnant, expected due date is late this week. She looks good and feels good (well, as good as can be expected). Unfortunately, for reasons to be explained a little later, it's unlikely we'll be present for Grandson #1's grand entrance. Next was the introduction of MG and Miss B.
MG will turn two this week. She is an absolute hoot! She's begun talking an understandable version of English, although the word "no" seems to be confusing her. It can mean either yes or no and it's up to you to figure out which. But, the next morning when she got up and walked into the breakfast room where Miss B was being fed, she quite clearly said "Hi, Miss B".

Miss B is 15 months old and coming along nicely. Sitting up on her own is almost there, standing with support is good, not quite ready for stand alone though. Making progress on making sounds, but she's very upbeat and smiles a lot. She's come a long way from her start.
Thank you Lord!
May not seem like a lot to y'all, but it was pretty exciting for this crowd.
Little J seems to be handling the 13 hour time transition quite well. He only took a 4 hour nap yesterday PM. In the living room with 3 other adults, 5 dogs and 2 active kids watching TV and doing their level best to keep him up. Were it an Olympic event, that nap would have been Gold Medal worthy.

Had a busy week last week, with multiple doctors' appointments and a procedure to put Mrs J's port in. Chemo Education will begin on Monday after we get back. Radiation will be the first treatment and will happen the first week in in November. That's a little out of order, I'm told, but they want to get treatment started. Chemo will follow the second week in November. I'm truly praying that the rapidity of the scheduling is due to luck and good doctors rather than the delay caused by a WHOGAS Nurse Practitioner not doing their job back in August.
We'll see.
On the other PITA in my life, the meeting with the Judge to assign me as the administrator of my sister's estate took all of 5 minutes. I had to swear an oath, very similar to the oath of commissioning, which I thought interesting. Went home after that and made several phone calls to the various parties involved. Like everything legal, it will apparently take 3-5 weeks before I'll receive any documents but I'm now officially the administrator of my sister's estate. I can actually ask questions and make decisions. So...I've got that going for me! A PITA extension. Yay!
But, making progress. Got to do a mental translation of what the legal nomenclature is vs terms I understand, but that delay time should help a bit.
So given all the "things" that have happened in the past 4 months, Mrs J and I decided to take a short vacation and spend time focusing on happier things, like our kids and grandkids. Seems to be working so far.
Yes, Beans, there are three grandkids in that picture. |
Peace out, y'all!
Here is some video from a Doctor Seyfried who has been researching metabolic treatments along with conventional chemo for about ten years, there have reports of success from those who have tried his protocols.Don't know if it would help or if you would be interested, I just thought I would offer it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGo0mtPX-JQ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qa3j40c8iAo . I have had some rather startling health results in other areas from such dietary changes.
ReplyDeleteAnon, Thanks, will look into them shortly.

Aha! The transition from Rug Rat to Yard Ape is almost complete for Miss B. Very good news on Radiation and Chemo starting quickly for Mrs. J juvat. Moscow on the Potomac?! More like "wretched hive of scum and villainy".
ReplyDeleteThat sounds lovely, Juvat. Enjoy the time together with your family. We will endeavor to not burn the place down in your absence.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck now that you have "administrator" status. Hopefully things will move quickly from here.
Continued prayers up for all.
THBB, we are! Please don’t Fire Mashall Sarge might get PO’d! ;-)
DeleteThanks

(Carefully pushes gasoline and matches out of Sarge's sight....)

DeleteReports of progress are always appreciated, as are smiles. Prayers up for all.
ReplyDeleteHTom,

Prayers up for Mrs. J, may her healing be fast and complete.
ReplyDeleteAfter looking at your granddaughters in those pictures - son, you are gonna have your hands full when they get a little older. Nothing a granddaughter likes more than twisting granddad around her little finger. Said the man with five granddaughters ...
Yours seem to have lots and lots of personality!
Sarge,
DeleteThanks!
Yep, and I am looking forward to every minute of them.
juvat
Nylon,
DeleteThanks.Yep, she’s getting there for sure!
Can’t disagree with Star Wars now can we?
juvat
Darn near impossible to go wrong when you put God and your family first.
ReplyDelete(NNY) Uncle Skip
Yep, just praying The Lord’s plan and my wishes are in synch.

Had to chuckle at the 3 Grandkids picture. The two in the foreground appear to be ready to deal with what ever comes their way. (My eldest, blonde, blue eyed Granddaughter exposed her "no xhit or nonsense female 'tude" at approximately the same age).
ReplyDeleteAs you said, Miss B has come a long way and prayers have been answered, not that it's time to quit though.
Never heard/read the term WHOGAS, but in my experience I've run across very few of 'em in the medical field and I hope it stays that way.
Hope Mrs. J and your good self enjoy the "self time"! Prayers continue.
Cletus
Cletus,
DeleteSorry, WHOGAS must have been a Fighter Pilot term for Who Cares, as in, to quote a great American, Who Gives a xhit.
Thanks
juvat
Ah, WHOGAS, thanks for the translation. Had one of those affect Mrs. Andrew once. Surgery to repair a surgical mistake. Seems the WHOGAS didn't want its Xmas holiday plans messed up by a messy surgery assist. Grrrr.... WHOGAS at the grocery store, not a problem. WHOGAS at the medical level, a very big problem.
DeleteBeans, Agreed! Seems to be spreading also.
Deletejuvat
Lot's going on... I'm pulling for you! Good luck.
ReplyDeleteRob,
DeleteBoy you got that right! Thanks
juvat
Prayers for you and yours coming from this liberal heck-hole of a city. Glad things are going, well, okay (never well with med procedures hanging around, just okay, which is... okay when you think about it. Okay is a good place to be when involving med procedures, as 'great' would involve not having med procedures ifn you know what I mean.
ReplyDeleteAs to the rugrat Kilimanjaro you built, hopefully it's farther away from the boobus toobus than it looks. I remember when I was a rugrat and... yeah, fragile things were in danger around me. Which is weird, come to think of it, as my family's home has always had a bunch of antiques in it (family firmly believed antiques were to be lived with, not all 'museumed' away in an untouchable state, so end-tables from days of old, cutlery and dishes and plates for the holidays that are old and so forth.)
Glad you're keeping sane. We are here if you need to vent to the outside world.
Beans,
DeleteIt's further away than she can reach, so...hopefully....another thing to pray about.
You're right at this point, OK is good enough.
Thanks
juvat
It's good to see Miss B looking all healthy and without tubes. Blessed be God forever.
ReplyDeleteTuna, She still has a Gastrointestinal feed tube installed in her stomach, so not entirely without tubes. But getting the breathing tubes out (probably 3 months ago) sure had done wonders for her learning and getting better.
DeleteAmen, Brother, amen!

Crusty Old TV Tech here. Sincere hallelujas at the youngun's medical improvement, and prayers for the upcoming medical procedures.
ReplyDeleteSeems to be a lot of WHOGAS in the medical profession nowadays, at least in my neck of the woods. I now avoid Memorial Herman like the plague, lots of WHOGAS nursing many years ago when I was getting patched up following body meeting patio at speed...yeah, I fell off the roof, while trying to mount the roof to get to an antenna. What else?
Will be waiting here when events and Musie get lined up again for a sortie into the Wild.
COTT,
DeleteThat hasn’t been our experience in our little town. The Medical folks have been friendly helpful and not afraid to ask for help. That’s why this threw us for a loop. Hopefully…well it’s in the Big Guys hands now.
juvat
Continued prayers up for Mrs J, MBD, you ( medical procedures plus legal stuff--talk about a stress test!!), and for the rest of your crew.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I'm good at is nagging...and this is definitely for a very good cause...so continued prayers up!
Suz
Suz, Thanks. i appreciate all the advice you’ve given us in this adventure so far. God Blee You!

Prayers that things go well for the missus... And the littles are looking great! Good news on the executor too, and yes, nothing legal EVER moves quickly.
ReplyDeleteOld NFO,
ReplyDeleteThanks We appreciate it. Yeah it’s been a fun few days, just what the doctor ordered.
You’re right about that!
juvat
Thanks for the situation update. As long as all parties are looking at the grass from the right side there's hope. Lots of power in prayers.
ReplyDeleteJoe, lotta truth in that, thanks!

Prayers up for the future, and thanks for the blessings to date.
ReplyDeleteJust visited a good friend yesterday recovering from some serious cancer surgery, at an outstanding facility, where EVERYONE GAS to the max in every aspect from janitorial, clerical and all the medical staff from the aides to top surgeons. He will have a bunch of chemo and radiation follow up, but looks like it will be a major save. Surgery was Friday, went home Sunday.
One factor that seems to elicit top results and top interactions with medical types is when patient and their caregiver have made an effort to learn about the problem, solution options with advantages and risks, and are eager to be involved in the decision making. My guy has a long list of very oddball allergies and past medical misadventures (dietary, reactions to common antiseptics, cannot take opioids, etc, etc) so it was essential that they work together to navigate around those obstacles. He has a wicked good sense of humor, and is a great researcher (along with his wife), so the staff really enjoyed working with them. Ask questions, do your homework.
On the plus side, the combination of Tricare for Life (military retiree medical benefit none of us ever cared about back in the day) and Medicare is pretty much the solution for ZERO bills to the patient for multi-megabucks worth of treatment.
Note for Sarge- Nice new header!
John Blackshoe
JB,
DeleteGood news about your friend, hope he continues to improve. Glad his medical staff was wholly on his side. Our meeting with Mrs J’s oncologist gave off similar vibes. We shall see.
Thanks also for reminding us there IS a way out
