Even though we've had strong winds and temperatures barely nudging above 30, it feels like spring because of the longer hours of daylight and the numerous robins I've seen huddled in corners wondering why the hell they came back so early. Wearing their little North Face parkas as they drink their lattes. (Yeah, I kinda made that last bit up.)
When the sun actually comes out, the quality of the light is different than it is in the winter. If I look out my windows in the afternoon, it looks very lovely. But you can see the trees bent over as the wind off the Atlantic beats on them.
I am feeling somewhat worn out today (Tuesday as I write this). I had a series of ridiculous dreams Monday night where I was in CIC¹, punching buttons and wondering where my combat displays were.
I would wake up periodically and realize that I was not in CIC and there were no displays necessary for me to sleep.
However, I still tossed and turned.
Maybe tomorrow I'll feel creative.
Certainly not today.
Sigh ...
Feeling a bit worn out? Maybe pulling the plug date has something to do with that Sarge. Feeling a wee bit tired myself, over fifteen inches here since Thursday night (thank you Henry Ariens!) and eighteen above now........ :)
ReplyDeleteNah, still feeling the effects of the time change. So of course woke up yesterday with plugged up sinuses and sore throat. Welcome to spring!
DeleteWe had Pollen Fall for two months here. Just stopped, mostly, last week. Coincidentally the massive use of Benadryl, Zyrtec, Flonase, and Pataday has fallen off. Hmmm...
DeleteWe have yet to enter pollen season, it's been too cold and too windy.
DeleteThe end of March means Spring really is getting closer! Good luck with the day!
ReplyDeleteYes, it has to stop snowing someday. (Not here but northern New England got dumped on over the weekend.)
DeleteWhat??? March means Spring is getting closer?
DeleteNah!!! March means Summer is just around the corner!
January means Spring is getting closer!
Just sayin'

Geez, Texans ...

DeleteFlorida Man. 🤣🤣🤣
DeleteSeems you're paying some of the price for the season change too, Sarge. After avoiding upper-respiratory badness all winter ( well, most of the winter, anyway) I have to clear the system every morning and can count on at least one heroic head-turning bout of sneezing during the day. Sore throat? Tea with honey and lemon or salt water gargle till the sun's over the yard arm; then replace the tea with whiskey and hot water.
ReplyDeleteSo retirement timeline not approved? Hopefully the Boss wants sooner rather than later.
Boat Guy
I've been thinking that it's time to fire up the humidifier again. Once I get up and get some water in me the dryness goes away and the sore throat is gone. After the mini-splits were installed the humidity in the house went way down. Which is particularly good in the summer, but right now it's just too dry.
DeleteThe Boss wants later, I fear she is cooking up some scheme which will require the higher income produced by staying on the job. My point is, sure, we can go ahead and plow that extra field, but dammit, you're gonna kill the poor mule through overwork.
Perhaps the boss would be swayed by book revenue. I'd hate for her to have the regret of killing the mule.

Gotta sell that!
DeleteAnd it's snowed again here, too. An inch or two. Strange how having a snowless winter has made this week's 18" such a chore. The habit of shoveling an inch or three, three or four times a week, is gone. We really need the water, the fields are going to be parched at planting time. Normally we get rmaybe six feet over the winter, we've had maybe a third of that.
ReplyDeleteAnd it does feel like spring.
I remember my grandmother calling spring snow "poor man's fertilizer." That water is indeed needed!
DeleteHere in N. California this is the season of weird weather. 70 one day, with frost overnight, then a high in the low 50s with rain, an overnight low in the high 40s, then windy and clear with highs in the low 60s. Forecast now is rain for 4 days, with some thunderstorms.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your malaise. I'm not so sure it's the time change. Been a couple of weeks now. Glad you clarified CiC.....I was worried that you were dreaming you were in the Commander in Chief's head. ;-)
Being in the Commander in Chief's head? Well, lots of empty space up there ...
DeleteJoe, I think your comment would be better framed if you deleted the last word in the first sentence.

Deletejuvat - Heh, I see what you did there.
DeleteJoe - At least ...
DeleteTime change followed immediately by traveling to EDT has severely screwed up my sleep cycle. I can stay up until normal bed time, but wake up 2 hrs before wake time- been exhausted enough that I caught a 36 hr bug. Slept to the alarm this morning though and bug has been seemingly eradicated. Good luck on the sleep/Homefront/work/money/scheme issues.
ReplyDeleteOuch, time changes, then you jump to a different time zone, that's gonna leave a mark!
DeleteSarge, I have had a bit of drainage as well - I am not sure if it is the time change, the time zone change, or the location change with the new pollens in the air.
ReplyDeleteFortunately here, there are a wealth of flowers blooming. We had those in New Home as well, but it is certainly nice to see other ones.
I wonder if your dreams are tied to the thoughts you have had about tying up the loose ends of your career?
I think your supposition as to the reason for the dream is probably spot on.
