So, you got all the time you need to do what you want. If weather looks less than optimal on your sked departure date, you simply get beat up by the grandkids for another day or two.
If tired of seeing the same old route back and forth, pick a different way, perhaps with something you've wanted to see, but never quite had the time. Ever been to Fredericksburg, VA? This is the time of year to appreciate one of the rare winter battles in the late unpleasantness. Or maybe stop at Valley Forge, where the troops froze their butts while being hollered at by some German guy, and waiting for the guys in Congress to figure out how to get them food, shoes, clothing and powder? Trenton has changed a lot since 1776, but that was a pivotal campaign, best commemorated in the winter. Of course, a lot more fun in a heated car crossing on bridges than paddling in Durham boats.
You're the master of your destiny, again. Carpe Diem. JB
"We arrived safe and sound." And maybe a bit worse for wear. Nothing some coffee can't fix.
