Cruising into the New Year

OAFS Photo
Not feeling the urge to do any creative writing just yet, I am enjoying my vacation far too much to knuckle down and get to work. Believe me, I've tried. But then the Legos come out, or one of the granddogs need attention, or some sporting event or Christmas movie is playing in the living room ...

So ...

Apologies, I'll get back to it eventually. I will have to head back north eventually, where I have a slew of things I want to accomplish (a couple of which The Missus Herself has indicated should be done sooner rather than later, my computer room is close to being designated a disaster area) after this vacation. (When the holidays are over I shall still be on permanent vacation, just not going anywhere.)

Went to a couple of cool places in the Annapolis area today, one of which had that awesome train setup above. Spent quite a few minutes watching the trains and checking out the delightful terrain through which they ran. (Cool Christmas villages and the like.)

Homestead Gardens had lots of cool stuff besides the great holiday train display. Your Humble Scribe picked up a rather interesting take on maple syrup which I can't wait to try ...

I mean, what's not to like? It's maple syrup infused with habanero peppers and the bottle is SHAPED LIKE A GRENADE!! OMG, awesomeness to the nth power! (And the company is veteran owned so I get to support my brothers and sisters in arms, I'm always up for that.)

Anyhoo, gotta run, we're building an X-Wing fighter out of Legos.

I am having so much fun.

I'll be back, soon-ish. 😎

  2. There is something about a good model train setup that always pleases the boy in me.

Sounds like you are adapting well!

  3. Retirement is not really a vacation, it just means you don't have to spend your time doing 'whatever' for someone else.
Enjoy the rest of the year!

    1. You might have overlooked one "someone else" .... The Missus Herself. Have fun Sarge, you've earned it.

    2. Rob - Disagree, vacation is any time you have to yourself not having to march to someone else's drum. At least that's how I look at it.

    3. Nylon12 - We play life in a different key, there is no conductor, it's a jam session.

    4. We're all different Sarge, see what you think about it next Christmas.

  4. Pretty expensive syrup, better be pretty darn good! Let us know on tasting. How big is the “”grenade”? For ~$40, it should be pretty large!

Visiting the kids in Moscow on the Colorado was fun. Both grandkids have reached the age of awareness and mobility. Amazing how fast they grow.

Happy New Year to you, your family and all our readers!

    1. Um, $14 for a six ounce bottle. As the price of real maple syrup runs roughly $13 a pint, and a bottle of good (read Mexican) hot sauce can run you $3.50 for a 10 ounce bottle, $14 ain't bad. A little pricey but the grenade bottle is cool. I haven't tried it yet, they say it works well with chicken and waffles! $40 is for a three-pack.

  5. Enjoy, and I'm sure everyone with you is enjoying this vacation visit too.
Yeah, model trains really do have an appeal to men of all ages. That set up is amazing!

    1. Kids of all ages! I think Sarge and I ascribe to that concept. I got a model for Christmas that I will put together soon- another item that keeps me young.

  6. Each year, our little town gets to see a real live Christmas Train pass through, engines and every car brilliantly festooned with lights. The Canadian Pacific (now CPKC - Canadian Pacific - Kansas City) routes two Holiday Trains to raise donations for food for the needy. Two towns north she pulls into a siding, one of the car sides drops to form a stage for an hour of live entertainment (whatever the weather). Then she is off again for the next stop, heading for the Border.
