Well, Campers, there has been progress on several fronts down in the great State of Texas. First, this post was written on my new (to me) Mac laptop. Seems the battery was a bit faulty when I bought the computer and it crapped out a few weeks ago. 3 weeks and ~$300 later it was functional again. Ahh Well!
While waiting for it to be returned, one morning I was looking out the window, this was the view. Picture doesn't really convey his size well. He was huge!
Drives the Great Pyrenees nuts, yes it does. They charge out of the house at full speed to the fence line. The steer just stands there and laugh's at them! |
Life is good.
What's the status of the Grand Kids? The eldest turned 3 the end of October. In fact, all three grand kids birthdays are the last 3 days of October, just an FYI. Makes it very easy to remember when gift purchasing is required. End of October and End of December. Heck, even I can remember that.
Mags got some wooden fruit so she could practice slicing them. |
In any case, MG got several outfits based on the "Frozen" movie. She seems to like them. Wears them 24 hours a day.
Running to show Grams her new dress. Speed was slightly more than my phone could handle. |
Her brother, Leon', just turned one and is walking and starting to put together sentences, so...Progress!
He also seems to enjoy riding the scooter! |
My Brother has completed his move out of SoCal and is ensconced in one of our guest houses. He has a couple of work from home gigs, so not likely to starve.
My younger brother watching the present unwrapping ceremony. |
Had a Christmas Morning video chat with Little Juvat, LJW and Miss B in England. All is well in Jolly Old, and Santa successfully visited their domicile also. We were a bit concerned about that. It IS quite a distance away, but the Military Postal Service came through with flying colors. Bravo Zulu, folks!
As mentioned earlier, this post also represents a major shift in the pattern of the Universe. Writing it on the Mac has a whole slew of different methods of writing it. Fortunately, MBD has been a Mac Nut for millennia and was willing to help me figure out how to do things (aka inserting pictures and positioning them).
Thanks, Sweetheart!.
It's been a very pleasant Holiday Season, Not a lot of drama, lots of stories told, Good Food, Good Wine. What a great way to celebrate this Holiday Season, hope yours went well also.
Peace out y'All!
Those Grandkids are sure growing up juvat and let's hear for technology.......new PC and video chats instead of just long-distance phone calls eh? That Longhorn.......that's a lot of steak on the hoof.....:)
ReplyDeleteNylon, you’re right about the lotta steaks. Unfortunately, he lives on the other side of the fence and cattle rustlin’ is still a criminal offense. My cattle are kept on the HEB Ranch, which I visit regularly.
DeleteGrandkids are growing fast. Kinda fun to watch and to play with. Gotta love ‘em!

Co-worker moved from WA and was amazed at longhorns. But when I told her even the female had those horns. Just wouldn't believe me. Cattle that had horns in her world were always male. Took her a while to settle into the Texas way of things.
ReplyDeleteAnon, interesting! I did not know that. The rancher next door (other side of the fence) has several breed of cattle, some without horns. So I assumed this was male. According to the website I checked male longhorn have mostly horizontal horns while the females turn upwards (the better to prod the males to do their chores I guess). Using that info I’d say this is a female of the species. Thanks for the info.

Far to the north in west central MN, a local farmer used to use a longhorn bull to breed his more conventional beef cows (the advantage was that there were almost no problems with calf birthing). His longhorn was typical (long horns and lean hindquarters looking like he was half starved). His neighbors joked that he couldn't afford a real bull and was too proud to buy a goat.
DeleteDon,
DeleteInteresting, and humorous. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteYes, they are, for a lot of reasons

Hurrah for a functional computer (will be interested in your experiences. Once upon a time we were an Apple family and my computer is probably getting near the end of its functional life).
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear everyone had a happy (and relatively stress free) holiday.
THBB,
DeleteUnfortunately, my functioning computer was left behind on our College Station Trip. Mrs J has cleared me solo tomorrow for an out and back to recover it. I'm on my old slow(ish) PC now. Running CCleaner as advised made a significant improvement in speed, so thanks again for the reader who recommended it.

So is Brother interested in some large dogs? You may be able to shift ownership and reduce the kennel size at your house.
ReplyDeleteBeans,
DeleteNo, he's not. Besides he is living in one of our guest houses on the property. Not much to be gained.

When I was a kid growing up, my Dad moved us "out to the country" which meant we were on 40 acres up on top of a ridge in the foothills of the Adirondacks. My mother, who was city girl personified, was perplexed one day as we were driving up the hill as to why the neighbor lady (lovely polish lady from "the old country" and spoke VERY little english) had a field of bulls.
ReplyDeleteDad said "Huh?"
Mom said "Mrs Kowalski has a field full of bulls. Why would anyone do that?"
Five year old Suz said "Mom, that's not the end ya look at."
Dad laughed so hard we nearly went off the road. It was a field of about 25 head of dairy cows, they just hadn't been de-horned.
Mom was mortified for decades after...
Glad to see the GP's are getting proper exercise, hope it helps them sleep better at night in their new kennels.
Had a no drama Christmas here as well. The son and family were all sick so we did the gifting today instead. And +1 to OldAFSarge about grandkids...they are a true present. I went over to Dad's, brought/made dinner there for him on Christmas day and just hung out spending time together. After all, at 95, chances are he doesn't have many more left, so I am spending all the holidays I can with him while I still have him around.
Glad ya got the computer straightened out! I hate it when they don't work right!!
Have a Happy and Healthy New Year!!! After the year you have had, I am sure you are looking forward to putting 2024 in the rearview mirror!
Suz
Suz,
DeleteThanks for the updates. Re: your Dad. I know how you feel, mine parents didn't make it that far, unfortunately. We had pretty much the whole surviving gang here this year, so it was pretty nice.
Yeah, 2024 wasn't an especially great year, hope 25 is better.

Glad to hear all is good with your bunch!!! Best wishes for 2025 for all!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a Happy New Year also, Old NFO!
