Still Alive ...

OAFS Photo
Alive and exhausted.Long day at the wheel yesterday.

But we arrived safe and sound.

Now, as my grandson says, "Time to beat up Grandpa!"

Yes, let the beatings begin ...

  1. "We arrived safe and sound." And maybe a bit worse for wear. Nothing some coffee can't fix.
Merry Christmas to you and yours.

And to all to whom these words come.

    1. "Entry of the Gladiators" by Fučík might be the grandkids theme whilst OAFS has something by Hans Zimmer...

Happy retirement, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

    2. The long version of the Gladiator theme was my most-listened to post this year in a recap that youtube music provided me. That version- Elysium, Honor Him, and Now We Are Free is so beautiful. Not sure if it calculated the number of times I listened, which was a lot, or if that's because it's over 8 minutes long. Either way, I'm going to add to that total right now. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-yOZEiHLuVU&list=LRYRooY5Vqoghelk92dpsWEsV2uZv-uNnRyOO

And Sarge, "Still Alive" is a pretty low bar. I offer an alternate title: "Tired, but so blessed with family."

    3. After Saturday's long march to the south, "Still Alive" fit the bill to a "T." Your title suggestion was apropos for Sunday.

  5. So, you got all the time you need to do what you want. If weather looks less than optimal on your sked departure date, you simply get beat up by the grandkids for another day or two.

If tired of seeing the same old route back and forth, pick a different way, perhaps with something you've wanted to see, but never quite had the time. Ever been to Fredericksburg, VA? This is the time of year to appreciate one of the rare winter battles in the late unpleasantness. Or maybe stop at Valley Forge, where the troops froze their butts while being hollered at by some German guy, and waiting for the guys in Congress to figure out how to get them food, shoes, clothing and powder? Trenton has changed a lot since 1776, but that was a pivotal campaign, best commemorated in the winter. Of course, a lot more fun in a heated car crossing on bridges than paddling in Durham boats.

You're the master of your destiny, again. Carpe Diem.
