... That OAFS Photo |
Okay, so I thought about doing another piece of historical fiction, but ...
Monday was so frigging beautiful, we spent most of the afternoon in the yard, and (drum roll please) we finished mulching the gardens around Chez Sarge. Okay, it ain't Versailles but we like it a lot.

The Missus Herself has turned our yard into something approximating Paradise. Works for me at any rate. And at the end of the day ...

Nothing like an adult beverage to wash down the dust from the mulching.
My Mondays are so much better than they used to be. A fellow could get used to this retirement thing. Personally? Five stars, no doubts.
No rest for the wicked: that fine garden looks as if it could be further enhanced by a raised bed.
ReplyDeleteMy wife has one in which she grows asparagus: the lark is to make the bed high enough that you can sit on the walls while you weed it with your fingers. That spares the crowns any rough treatment from a hoe. A conventional asparagus bed is a so-and-so to keep free of weeds as experience taught us.
On the deck we have two raised gardens where my wife grows rosemary, lettuce, and green onion.
DeleteWe knew "green onions" as "sybies" where I grew up. Our local Chinese carry-out serves them to accompany crispy aromatic duck. Yum.
DeleteKorean food uses them a lot. Yes, they are delicious.
DeleteAre those mulch pictures in the correct order? Just asking, heh.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to show the result first. It felt so satisfying to have moved that entire pile!
DeleteMan!!!!! Did THAT turn out beautiful! Well done to both of you!

I enjoy those gardens a lot!
DeleteTot that bar! Lift that bale! The task is accomplished Sarge........well done sir. Not a speck of white in that sky. Crabapple tree in my front yard is getting ready to bloom........hmmmm......time to change the lawnmower oil.
ReplyDeleteEventually spring comes to even the far north!
DeleteSooo...what you are saying is it was really Mulch Ado About Nothing?
ReplyDeleteIt really does look lovely, Sarge. Congratulations to you and The Missus to making a small paradise.
Heh, good one.
DeleteYou should enter your (her) yard in some sort of gardening club competition! That's really nice. Great job on the mulch disappearing act as well.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I always hated about on base housing was the "Yard of the Week" competition. Always won by some guy who didn't have a real Air Force job, always some 8 to 5 slob who never deployed, never worked a night shift ...
DeleteOh but I do go on. Competition and clubs are both anathema to me.
It was just my way of complimenting her.
DeleteI get that.
DeleteThat was a pretty big pile, so congrats on getting it done quickly. Results look great!
ReplyDeleteThe Missus really does have a green thumb for that gardening stuff. Of course, having a dedicated helper to execute the plans makes it all happen. Team effort!

She's the creative genius. I do so appreciate her.
DeleteAh, I so enjoy a day watching someone else do yard work. I do not miss dealing with yardwork at all.
ReplyDeleteThere are times when I wish someone else did it, but now that I'm retired, I have the time.
DeleteSo why not?
