Had A Thought Today...

(Source)
Every now and then I say to myself, "Yes, I am a writer! I can do this."

Then I read something like this, and I realize that, like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

While the thought of matching Lex at this game is what keeps me going, I doubt I'll ever get there. The man was just too good. Sure I can string a few words together in a semi-coherent way, I can be informative, I can be funny (ha ha and strange, sometimes both at once), and I enjoy doing this. Otherwise I would have quit somewhere along the way in the past four years.

When I think of quitting, I'll think, "Hey, I can post about this!" And I do. I am addicted to this blogging thing. It's enjoyable.

No, really.

FRaVMotC Bill B. is in the midst of publishing a number of Lex's old posts over at The Lexicans, I highly recommend you go read those old posts. Bill has picked some good ones.

Dear Lord but I miss that guy.

That is all...

  1. No one can be Lex, of course, Just as no one can be Sarge. You're definitely doing it right.

I wonder what would happen if everyone in the whole world took an entire day off to read and ponder this:

    1. Lex had two posts that spring to mind which are perhaps his two best.

      That's one of them.

  2. I'd say you're a pretty fair "word monger" and I like you style!

"There is no way that writers can be tamed and rendered civilized
or even cured. The only solution known to science is to provide
the patient with an isolation room, where he can endure the acute
stages in private and where food can be poked in to him with a stick"

    1. Mr. Heinlein was obviously a smart guy.

I get poked with the stick all the time. What's this food thing he mentions?

  3. You do it better than most. You do it far better than I could. You do it for the right reasons and in honor of one we all miss. Lex was a teacher, a mentor, a thinker who by his writings commanded us to think. You are OLDAFSarge and Lex would have wanted it no other way. Lex would be proud.

  4. Thanks for pointing.
Where is the collected writing of Lex? Who do I send my money to?

    1. Cap'n, go to the "Files" area on the Neptunus Lex Facebook group, there are a lot of Lex's old posts as collected by one of the members. You'll see them.

  5. Keep trucking, you are getting better, and having Carroll as a standard will keep you interesting.
One of these days I will tell my Lex story but we are not far enough outbound yet.

    1. Thanks Cap'n. To get better at something, you need to work at it.

While I do do that, it's more fun than it is work. So I've got that going for me.

As to your Lex story, good stories are like fine wine, best served at the right time and place.

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
