Feeling Rather Goofy Today

Those of you have been following the blog for any length of time know that I can be, from time to time, slightly goofy. Ya know, puckish, as in "he ain't quite right in the head, is he?" Today is one of those days. I have nothing serious I wish to talk about, though there be much that is serious in the world, I tend to not write about it, except on rare occasions. This ain't one of those occasions. Just so's you know.

LUSH hard at work on her first post.
Okay, in all fairness to my youngest, she is suffering from what I like to call the "Lemoore Crud." Snuffy nose, bloodshot eyes, general lack of enthusiasm for doing anything requiring getting out of bed. Sounds like the common cold but it is oh so much worse.

Now she had her Mom out there for a month and a half, kids were both healthy and cooperative. Then her mother-in-law was visiting for a week or so. The kids were both healthy and cooperative. Now that both grandmothers have returned to their abodes, of course the youngest comes down with some kind of crud which makes her cranky and feverish.

A visit to the doctor (after multiple phone calls to get authorization on the weekend) the youngest is diagnosed with a "really bad cold." (Though I personally suspect the "Lemoore Crud.")

So while LUSH could have been regaling us with tales of her days in the Navy, she has instead been taking care of a sick child. After the child got well, you guessed it, Mom (LUSH) came down with whatever the youngest had only multiplied times five.

So I give her a pass. For now...

I believe I mentioned that Tuna was out and about the planet doing whatever it is that Tuna does when he's not hard at work back home in Sandy Eggo. From all accounts he is having far too good a time during his travels and I suspect he's not thinking about blogging at all. But then again, the deal was that he could post whenever he felt like it or not at all as the mood struck him.

Though it would be nice to see a post about those travels, I don't expect one very soon. Unlike me, Tuna is a very busy guy. So he tells me at any rate. And yes, I believe him. I'm trusting like that...

Juvat is my mainstay. Every Monday, like clockwork. I check and bingo, there's a post. (Well, there was that one time he forgot to schedule it. Not that I remember stuff like that...)

One more thing...

I wanted to let y'all know something about comments. I try to answer all comments on my posts. From what I've seen, so does Juvat, Tuna not so much. It's a personal preference whether an author responds to comments or not. On most posts I will respond, on some (like last Sunday's) I don't. Everything I wanted to say, I said in the post. It depends. I do read everything that shows up here. Posts, comments, I even chase links. (WARNING - If you leave a bad link, that is, it goes somewhere that angels fear to tread, then the comment will get deleted. Also certain words will get your comment deleted. I've only deleted three non-spam comments over the five years I've been doing this. As readers, y'all are a very polite lot. I appreciate that a great deal.)

If you leave a comment and it doesn't show up, it may have gotten stuck in the spam filter, which happens from time to time, or you're commenting on a post over a week old. All comments on older posts get moderated. Spam-bots are annoying, but they're not very smart apparently.

Anyhoo, this is what I like to call "Waterloo Week." The 202nd anniversary of the battle approaches and, as I do every year, I post something on the battle. Expect something a little different this year.

I just hope it doesn't suck.

    2. Nothing I can add to that little exchange.

Though each of us having Roman names is interesting. Anyone here ever seen Monty Python's Life of Brian?

    4. Although, in a room full of fighter pilots, figuring out which of you gets the name "Biggus Diccus" is liable to get a bit testy.

    5. I just spent 15 minutes trying to think of a come back in Latin.

Yes, I have far too much time on my hands.

    6. Buddy Hackett once said that he was thrown out of the Vatican. Of course, the bishop told him to get out in Latin: Obscondii Obesii Illegitimo!

    7. And the comment about the room of fighter pilots reminded me of a Greek salutation I heard on Whose Line is It Anyway?:

      Ηαιλ, Τεστιχλεσ!

      (It rhymes with Damocles)

  3. Always appreciate a response from both you and Juvat considering the amount of time it takes for the original post and then the replies. Hope your offspring experiences a quick 'refit/refurb'.

    1. We try.

Yes, I'm hoping the youngest gets well soon, and not just because I want her to post. Though that is a factor. ;)

  4. You gave me a bad flashback to boot camp chow in that first image until I noticed it was made at Lackland...

Fun post! I'm wondering what Private Cratchit gets up to at La Haye Sainte...

  6. Yeah, I haven't been able to respond to every comment ever since my staff was been cut by the management. And besides, there are far too many fans out there to respond to all, although I treasure every one of you dearly. By the way, "a bear" wins the best comment award for today.

  8. After reading the above comments, I'm not even going to try; I don't belong in such august company.

BTW: I'm so old ( to coin a phrase ) that I remember Master Sergeant stripes as being six stripes down [ three on the star and three below ]. Oh well, USAF doncha know.

    1. They went to the new stripes in 1991, one of the very few things McPeak did which I liked. I still have a set of my old blues hanging in the closet with the old stripes. I do like the new ones, all the senior NCO stripes now have a similar layout. Though the comments about being a "Senior Tech Sergeant" were a bit irksome at first.
