I Have Been Remiss

George Herbert Walker Bush
Naval Aviator, President

I cannot let this week go by without noting the passing of a good man.

Youngest naval aviator in World War II.

Future President Bush in his Grumman TBM Avenger aboard USS San Jacinto in 1944.

Congressman from Texas.

Our Ambassador to the United Nations.

Director of Central Intelligence.

43rd Vice President of the United States.

41st President of the United States.

A lifetime of service, a good man.

I mourn his loss, though it's a sadness tinged with happiness...

Godspeed President Bush

They can be together once more.

Fair winds and following seas Mr. President.

  1. One of the very few recent Commanders in Chief to have "seen the elephant" no less than from inside that truck, the Avenger. Amen.

  2. Hey Old AFSarge;

He was my commander in Chief and he sent us into war 2 times, the first time into Panama and it was just and then into the Persian Gulf and it also was just. He knew the score and the cost. He tried to do right by his country and succeeded most of the time. I didn't agree with some of his political stuff but I never doubted the personal integrity and bravery of the Man. GodSpeed Mr. President

  3. George H. W. Bush was a great president. His list of accomplishments is awesome. But for those who were privileged to know him he will always be remembered as a good and gentle man. In the Congress it is the custom to always refer to each other as "the gentleman from..." or "the gentle lady from..." It is generally a meaningless honorific, but in the case of President Bush it was a well earned title. He was truly a gentleman in the best sense of the word. He always had a friendly manner. He could disagree on something, but never be disagreeable. And he was a leader who led by example. Farewell, sir, you will be missed.

  4. I have long thought well of that President Bush. I noticed in one of the pictures that he writes with his left hand. It is a well known fact ( at least it is among left handers ) that left handedness is common among people of certain groups. Tis a nice tribute you have given him. My signoff ' Thanks for the post' is given with even greater fervor than usual today.

    Thanks for the post.

  8. I really enjoyed the outpouring of respect and affection for him this week. The political cartoons, the eulogies, the train, the flyover, all were such a wonderful send off. Great legacy too, despite only getting a single term a-la Ross Perot.

    1. Totally loved the train. Dang it. That's a classy move by the railroad.
