It was then that I notice a window, to my left front, and out that window was a spectacular view of the sea, with two islands that I could just perceive upon the horizon. The sun is shining and sparkling off the gentle waves just outside the window. I think that if I had extended my hand through the window I could have reached down and touched the surface of the water. I remark to those present that the view was simply incredible and that this must be the best room in the house. My boss said that they were all this good. (I presume he meant all of the rooms in this house had such views. I also somehow know it is a house, not a hotel or some other large structure.)
At that point the sea began to fill with ships and boats going to and fro, many of the boats looked like buses, floating on the water and taking people from one place to another in what I now realize is a harbor. Just then a fast, grey ship came into the harbor, just as I said, "That's a warship!" I find myself in a different room in the same house. This one seems to be a parlor, or living room perhaps, just inside of what I perceive to be a porch overlooking a heavily wooded area. We are definitely on the side of a hill. I can see a staircase going up, somehow I knew that I had been upstairs looking out over the water.
At that point a gentleman entered the room and said that he was "going to go meet her on the path." He said it to me, so I assume I should go with him. It then struck me that the man was the same guy I met in this post, though shorter than I remember him. The lady he was going to meet was his wife, no one said that but I knew it was the case.
As I go to follow him, I nearly trip on an empty cardboard box. Taking it with me onto the porch I notice other boxes, which had been broken down and stacked against the side of the house, still on the porch. I assume that this is "my" box and I have to break it down like the others. There may be packing paper in the box (I can feel it shifting and rustling inside) but when I pull the box apart, there is actually nothing inside.
After stacking the box I look off of the porch and into the woods. It's a deciduous forest with many tall trees, very little underbrush, a number of dirt paths running throughout, and a stone wall lining what I take to be the main path. As I set out onto that path, I can hear my wife calling "she's over here." So I go towards the sound of her voice.
I can't find her but there are other people on the path, all women, many of them wearing evening gowns, which I don't think is odd at all. The strangest thing is that everyone is barefoot. I thought I was too at first, then I notice that I am wearing white socks, no shoes, just socks. My immediate concern was that my socks would get dirty on these paths through the woods. But they didn't.
Someone, I don't know who, told me not to worry and that I needed to hurry up. So off I go down into the woods, following the main path, I can see that the terrain here is very hilly, all the paths go up and down, and there is green grass on all of the hill sides. Odd, as the trees were everywhere, but they didn't seem to be blocking the light, just enough to keep it cool under the trees.
I awaken to feel that what I was seeking was just out of reach.
For now.
I sense that what I have seen is important.
Why? I don't know.
From time to time I have these very vivid dreams, which I remember for a very long time. Some dreams vanish as soon as I awaken, I can just see the dream receding, like it's something I need to remember but can't. After a while I realize that the dream was just housekeeping on my brain's part. Combining random things into a whole which may or may not make sense.
Most times those dreams fade, the brain has discarded those random threads. Sometimes though, like Friday night, the dream sticks in my memory. Somewhere in the recesses of my brain, some particular process has decided that I need to hold onto those thoughts.
For whatever reason, these things are important.
I just wish I knew why...
Someday, I'll have my answer.
Interesting. I'm sure Freud would have something to say about that one. Or maybe your Pastor.
ReplyDeleteMy dream last night was of being sound asleep in my office when the University of Arkansas Basketball team comes in and picks me up and throws me out of my office intending to use my office as their locker room prior to the "Big Game". Not sure about the meaning of anything in the dream. I've never played anything but a pick up game of Basketball. Never been to the University of Arkansas or even know where it is (other than in Arkansas). Not sure which office it was other than "mine". Weird.
No more pepperoni pizza for me, I guess.
The University of Arkansas Basketball team? Most interesting. I wonder if they won.
DeleteDreams are interesting, I've only had a few which made me think, and think hard. This was one.
Hmmmm.....ships = naval offspring? The Missus and your boss= future life vs current work life? But hey, what do I know? Some mornings I can't even find my socks........
ReplyDeleteThat's as valid an interpretation as any Nylon12. Makes sense too.
DeleteAs to socks? I feel your pain brother. ;)
Dreams are certainly interesting windows to our inner self - they frequently are ways for us to try and cope with events that have happened but did not have our desired outcome, or trying to play out scenarios we think might happen in the future. But one thing we do know, dreams are very important to our health.
ReplyDeleteDreams are very important.
DeleteWeird dreams that stick are kinda unsettling, aren't they? Oh, well, woke up to doing shield wall work against professional football players, then was backpedaling while running a spear (quick jab-jab motions and c-blocks and cuts while either stepping forward, to the side or back, at a rapid pace) against said pro football players. Why? Maybe I miss fighting (duh) but why pro football players?
ReplyDeleteWhy Arkansas Razorback Basketball players? As Budweiser used to say..."Why ask Why?"
DeletePutting my PHD in astropsychiatry (you figure it out) to work here. Beans, you miss fighting (duh) and wanted a more challenging opponent in your next round. Getting your butt handed to you by semi-pro's wasn't good enough, you needed it handed to you by actual practicing and professional thugs. And the only place that professional thuggery is practiced nowadays is in the NFL.
Since I'm practicing astropsychiatry now....Basketball players? Got to have something to do with dribbling. Well....I'm not going there.
Gotta take a nap, something kept me awake last night.
Mrs. Andrew and I both refer to Basketball as 'Squeeky shoe people.'
DeleteAnd, yes, I really miss fighting. Whenever I see some Antifa pimples, I want to go all glaive on them, whackety-whack chop-chop or do some serious sword and shield work. I dream about it. I need to lose weight and get busy...
Beans the 1st - Professional linemen are the modern day equivalent to a shield wall. Obviously you miss the cut and thrust,
Deletejuvat - Something kept you up? Uh, duh. That dream would wake me up in a heartbeat.
DeleteBeans the 2nd - Squeaky shoes, I can hear it now. Odd enough for an ear worm, but there it is.
DeleteI've had some vivid dreams, too, and a few that blasted me awake covered in sweat.
ReplyDeleteDo they mean anything more than 'housekeeping' or 'defragging' my brain?
Beats me, but some of them sure have been enjoyable while they lasted!
I believe that some dreams have meaning, the brain sometimes assembles random fragments into something coherent. Those are the ones I seem to remember.
DeleteI can't add much in the way of describing my dreams. I know I have them, but I almost never ever remember what they were, losing those random threads the very second I wake up. If I do remember something from them, they are no where near as vivid as you've described. Maybe dreams are meaningful, but mine must not have any significant meaning. Strange how the brain works sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI know some people who claim to "never dream," which would indicate an odd lack of brain activity at night. More properly they just don't remember dreaming. Well, that's my theory.
DeleteThe brain is always working so yes, they are dreaming most likely.
DeleteDo androids dream of electric sheep? (Just thought I'd throw that out there, a favorite scifi quote.)
