Home Layout

I’v signed Sarge’s leave paperwork, so he’ll be absent for a few. Headed to California, I heard, but I think that gold rush is over. I’ve got a few stories in the hopper, so all y’all will have something to read.

I have been requested to update on the new house project, so, below is the layout and dimensions of the House.

Orientation for the North(ish) is the right side, West is the top.  Lots of trees fairly close on the West side, should keep things a bit cooler. Driveway comes in from the East about 3-400 yds from the road.  Porch and garage both push the home back a bit from direct sunshine.

The photo below basically has the same aspect as the blueprints, if a little further back.  The trees in the middle of the picture will remain.  The driveway will go to the right of them.  We're pondering putting a patio in that nest of trees.

The architect is working the foundation plans and expecting completion on the 25th.  At that point, construction should start with the pouring of the slab.

Hopefully, there won't be any major setbacks.  We'd really like to move in to a home where we'll have a bit of privacy, peace and quiet.  Which is in the plan because...

The Great Pyrenees don't seem to like City Life.  We've had noise complaints from neighbors when we had them outside at night.  So, we brought them in.  That solved the neighbor problem, but...Mrs J and I haven't had an uninterrupted night's sleep in quite a while.  Ahh well.

We're looking forward to the new property and pray that the Great Pyrenees won't bark several times a night out there.

Get's old....Fast!

Peace out, Y'all!

    1. Well. We do have two rescue Paint horses that are longing to be released from the boarding stable. Got to get a barn put up. First project of the construction. fencing is the second. Once complete we’ve got to put up fencing and water. Then we and they will be reunited. And the house built. Lots to do on the lot ( a bit early morning humor). Builder says December for move in for all of us.
We’ll see ( with great anticipation)

  2. How close are the nearest neighbors, wonders I? Good sized rooms, one level living (fewer stairs for we "mature"folks, nice juvat.....:)

    1. Well, we share a fence line, our side is a couple hundred yards away. Their lot is the same size and shape as ours, so depending on where they build, shouldn’t be a problem. They haven’t started yet and aren’t planning to until next year at the earliest. We’ve met them, they seem nice.

  3. Might I make one suggestion for the master suite: flip the bathroom and closet. That way if the bathroom is occupied you don't loose access to the closet. Otherwise, nice livable layout.

    1. Anon,
Couple of things as that diagram has been modified a bit. The closet wiii have a door opening into the hall also. Additionally, the toilet next to the master bedroom is in an enclosed space with a door. Our builder and my project director (AKA Mrs J) have already fixed those issues.
Thanks for bringing them to my attention. I didn’t see that problem

  4. Man, signing leave paperwork now! You are ascending in the hierarchy!

The house looks lovely. Seems like you have almost a 270 degree view of your surroundings, which will be great.

  5. Been a bit tardy at my Chant reading recently so I either am a day or two behind, or I read too late in the day to make any salient comments. Congrats on the driving again. My wife can't maintain a steady foot on the gas pedal so if that had happened to me I'd be insane by now. Enjoy the cruise. We leave for Bora Bora on Saturday. I'll probably have pics that I can share to help out around the blog.

Did you ever try the dog-bark discouragement devices?

    1. Tuna, last first. No. But my exasperation and lack of sleep is starting to influence me.
      Enjoy Bora Bora.

  6. Thanks for keeping us in the loop!
Don't give too much money to our Western European Allies (!). Enjoy the trip. Waiting for the pictures.

    1. Fuzz,
Thanks, I’ll certainly try. Most of the stuff on the boat is prepaid, so it’s pretty much only when ashore that money disappears. So…we’ll be careful. juvat

  7. After seeing what trees do to concrete foundations, and paving, I don't recommend any trees within 100 feet of any structure, or drive. The eventual costs to repair the destruction outweighs any aesthetics, or HVAC savings from shade.

    1. That’s a good rule of thumb. I’ll discuss it with the builder and the project manager (you know who).
      Thanks

  8. I may be a dunderhead. Which room is the master bedroom? The one on the north side? If so, how does anyone get into that bathroom next to that northeast room?

    1. The one on the bottom right. Yes North East. That is the master. The blueprint has a door to the bathroom next to the master. This was just a beginning drawing and measurement paper, a couple of months old.

Just be polite... that's all I ask. (For Buck)
Can't be nice, go somewhere else...
