| Midway airport, Chicago OAFS Photo |
As they live near Fresno, that's where we flew to, no airline has a hub anywhere near Fresno, so getting there is a bit of a chore. Like first fly to Midway, the airport near Chicago not the island in the Pacific, then to Sandy Eggo, then, finally, to Fresno. Approximately eight hours in the air and another six hours on the ground, hanging out, waiting for the next flight.
So it was a rather long day. it was the first time I'd been back to Sandy Eggo in three (ish) years and the terminal we were in was new, it had been under construction the last time I was here. So it was good to be back, but it was different. But hey, it was just the terminal. We were only on the ground for three hours. Long enough to stretch our legs and get something to eat,
Holy sh!t, $25 for a cheeseburger and fries???
We ate something else, some Mediterranean kebob thing, which wasn't bad. Still expensive ($20) but not as expensive. Healthier as well, I actually ate a salad. (No, that doesn't normally happen when I eat at an airport.)
Anyhoo, I'm out here for a few days and juvat is in France. So, we'll see how things go. And from this sign I saw in the airport restroom (one over each urinal) ...
That spinning noise you hear?
Darwin in his grave.
Ciao!

A perfect summary of what is wrong with California these days! Well done.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful day in Lyon today. Boat sails tomorrow.
Did you folks know that French cooking is pretty good?
It's not!
No! It's VERY good. I may not come home.
Sitting here communicating with my friends from the veranda of our room, having done a downtown tour of Lyon. Yes, Tuna, wine was involved. This is WINE country, doncha' know!
juvat
Sigh. Sounds lovely Juvat. Pictures or it did not happen.
DeleteOk, tomorrow 7 hours ahead is a posting advantage.
DeletePictures? That’ll be a portion of the post.
juvat
juvat - Parts of California, there are some areas where normal people still reside.
DeleteJuvat, great part about those river cruises? Wine is free! - Tuna
DeleteI suspect he knew that already.
DeleteI never saw one of those first communion deals. I did go to a Catholic wedding once. My sense of humor got me banned from family events for a while. My brother's brand new father in law nearly stroked out five different times.... oops..... The "thank you for this awesome bbq" at the reception after huffing helium from a balloon just got a huff and he stalked off. The mother in law was hooting and laughing... misread the audience.... Enjoy your visit!!
ReplyDeleteYou made the mother-in-law laugh? In that case, who cares what the father-in-law thinks, his vote doesn't count. DAMHIK
DeleteDid you like the new terminal? We flew through there in November; it was so much bigger than the old one.
ReplyDeleteAre you spending any time in San Diego proper? Maybe going to the Air and Space Museum?
The new terminal is laid out better, that's for sure. Sum total of time in Sandy Eggo was almost four hours. Don't plan on spending any more time there on this trip. I've been to the aforementioned museum, it IS nice.
DeleteSafe travels!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Rob!
DeleteEnjoy your visit! Family time is the best! First Communion is a big deal for Catholics and Episcopalians! My congratulations and prayers to your granddaughter!! ❤️✝️🙏
ReplyDeleteThanks, Mary!
DeleteConfirmation and First Communion (which follows first confession, or used to) is a big thing in Catholicism. Since we baptize after birth (after ensuring the child lives, goes back to the ooold days of child mortality) the Church wants to ensure the child is confirmed in the Church and then first confession and First Communion.
ReplyDeleteThough we also have born-again for values of born-again where Catholics reaffirm their faiths. Opus Dei is one of the organizations that do this (and isn't an evil monastic fruitcake order like in Dan Brown's stupid book.)
Good to know.
DeleteBeans,
DeleteConfirmation age ithese days s usually around ages 12 and up, to ensure the child is old enough to understand the rite. Solemn and beautiful ceremony.
Thanks for clarifying Opus Dei. Dan Brown took some "artistic liberties" in his books!
Quite a few as I recall.
DeleteYou'll pay $20 for a fastfood burger combo in CA now, because since the last you were here, they passed a $20 minimum wage for fast food workers. - Tuna
ReplyDeleteMaybe not 20, but I paid 16 recently. In-n-Out is the lone exception.
DeleteTuna - I had forgotten that.
Delete$16 is common in a few places outside California. For many of the same reasons.
DeleteIn Fresno, try to make time for the air museum at the old Castle AFB at Merced (actually Atwater which is close to Merced)
ReplyDeleteI think it worth the trip.
FAT airport has an ANG outside aircraft display. Kinda neat to see the various types they flew through the years.
FCH (Chandler is old part if Fresno) airport terminal. Art Deco, you'd think you're in a Bogart/Becall movie set. The restaurant is in the terminal. Haven't eaten there in ages, may be different owner, good food.
Do you see a theme in my comment?
No time for tourism, we're busy, busy, busy.
DeleteI knew California was doomed when I saw the list of things that cause cancer in California, but don't appear to be harmful anywhere else.
ReplyDeleteYes, in California damned near everything causes cancer.
