Squirrel Vision

(Source)
Okay, this post has nothing to do with squirrels, I'm using squirrel in the sense of "squirrelly," as in, my eyesight was being very squirrelly Friday. Unpredictable, all over the place, and just weird.

Going to back to work this past week after having two weeks off led to the usual upset to the sleep cycle, from holiday to work. Another factor was having nothing to do at work, you wouldn't believe how tiresome that is. So I decided to take yesterday off, get some much needed sleep and I could do nothing at home much more effectively than at work. I also had a couple of chores which needed doing.

But sleeping late was a two-edged sword on Friday. My body and brain felt blessedly rested, my eyes on the other hand suffered. I slept too long and my eyes got too dry. It's happened before and I freaked out, thought I was going blind, not, just over-tired and dry eyes. So I'm keeping them liberally dosed with artificial tears (something one of my many eye docs recommended). The downside is, everything is bloody blurry as Hell. So this will be a quick post as last night I needed to rest my eyes as much as I could.

On the upside, Operation Marble Throne Room  is complete. Oorah! I was very pleased with our contractor and would hire him again in a heartbeat. In fact, this spring Operation Marble Throne Room II will commence. He's giving us a good rate as we've hooked him up with a bunch of jobs for the friends of The Missus Herself. Good stuff that.

Anyhoo, here's some photos I took of the renovated throne room. It hasn't been decorated yet, that's the purview of The Missus Herself and she shan't be rushed. I can wait, I know she'll make it look even better. 😁

But before I do that, here's what the trip to work looked like the other day (Wednesday I think, might have been Tuesday, I'm an old man, I get confused... nope, it was Wednesday because I recall bitching about getting this lovely look two weeks to the day after Christmas, you know me, I like my white Christmases.)

A lovely morning, but that night the bottom fell out of the temperature, down into the high teens, low 20s it was. I know, I know, 'tis nothing for the likes of nylon12 and Scott the Badger, but for Little Rhody, with the wind coming in off of the Atlantic, that's pretty damned cold. Bitter cold all of Thursday as well.

Then Friday dawned cloudy but "warm," mid-40s. But that's New England weather, don't like what you've got? Wait a minute, it'll change.

Anyhoo, behold the vast expanses of marble, yup, that's the real deal. Some quarry someplace (I'm hoping it was the home state) provided a lot of tile for this project. I think it looks lovely, sure YMMV, but you didn't pay for it, did ya? 😉

I kinda wished I'd taken some "before" photos, didn't look nearly this nice (the walls and tile were pink for crying out loud, that should tell you something). It had a vanity with a single sink and just one mirror as well. Now we're all fancy with dual sinks and mirrors. Woohoo!

Be well, hopefully my vision is better this day, I'll let you know in Sunday's post, POCIR.

  1. Well, glad the vision thing isn’t too serious. I also hope to understand eventually but can only imagine now, the emotions involved when a construction project is completed. Sorry for lack of comments this week. Internet was spotty and somewhat of minor import. Headed back to Galveston now.

    1. I'm guessing you had your hands full last week. 😁

The end of a construction project is greatly to be celebrated. When does construction on The Lair begin?

    2. Depends on the current status of “The Road”. Haven’t been able to raise the guy handling that part. Thought I had his email, but didn’t, so I don’t know. If it’s done next phase is pouring the foundation.

    3. juvat, all you do is wine, wine this, wine that, you're such a winer... :)

Glad you survived trip without serious incident, no ships running into each other or illnesses passed from one to another due to whatever reason, unless you have a horror story you're saving for Monday...

      Construction End is always good.

Though caliche or limerock roads are never done... I'm depressing myself so I'll shut up now.

    4. juvat - I forgot about the road. Get a Roman Legion in there to do it, the stuff they build lasts a very long time.

  2. Very Nice!! Looks like lots of nice long relaxing showers are in your future.

And the squirrel in the opening picture is a cutie!

Go rest the eyeballs!! Maybe ask your current eye doc if there is a more better solution to use to keep the eyeballs wet? I know there is some stuff that can only be gotten by script, not just over the counter, but don't know if one is better than another. Or maybe a gel/ointment to use before bed, since most folks sleep 8-10 hours a day, or should. Eyes are important, and yours are VERY important!! Check it out!

    1. I actually do have some ointment she gave me to help prevent dryness, I haven't used it yet. (She said it might make my vision blurry, which scared the crap out of me.) I think I need to deploy that on the weekends when I can sleep longer.

FWIW, the eyes are back to normal today. For which I am eternally grateful!

    2. It makes your vision blurry in the one eye because it's keeping your eye moist.

Versus your eye being blurry and weird because it's dried out.

She (the eyedoc) will be perplexed with you. And like dentists, eyedocs can 'unintentionally' intentionally inflict pain upon those who don't listen to them. Use the goop. You can actually hurt your eye from it being overly dry a lot.

    3. What Beans said just above!!

Besides, who cares if your vision is blurry...use it when you are asleep!!! No one cares if the insides of your eyelids are blurry...try it at night first. Willing to bet the blurriness is gone when ya wake up.

    4. That's the plan. Doc said for nighttime use only.

  3. Your weather is familiar. We had uncomfortably warm, humid, sticky, and windy yesterday, butt crack weather. Today is minty mouthwash weather. Cold front blew in, and tonight's low is upper 30's. Nice, beautiful breeze with a cold edge. The rain part was very normal for here as well. Heavy thunderstorms that parted right before they hit and then consolidated after they went by. Our side walk was barely wet. 0.04"... But the light show was pretty and the wind smelled clean.

Growing up, our bathroom was pink and black. Then we upgraded. I learned how to cut tile, and lay tile, and tile a wall, and tub surround. Dad got loopy on the contact cement. Grouting was a tough job for me. I was about 8, and didn't have the strength to push it into the gaps. Got yelled at for that. I really considered sending off for the Charles Atlas stuff in the back of Boy's Life, but never did.

As for the eyes, just peer at the missus. She's a sight for sore eyes!!!!

    1. When I got up this morning to prepare breakfast for the feline staff at 0630, it was 50° out! Now it's a bit after ten, it's 55° and still climbing. Thirty plus degree change in two days, then again I've seen that kind of temperature change in Colorado in thirty minutes!

As to the eyes and The Missus Herself, she certainly is!

  4. I've heard that weather comment all over the US.
Went to a college in the Midwest, and new weathermen always raved about how wonderful it was to be in an area where the weather was so 'dynamic' (their word). Did get to see things like - early afternoon, wind was zephyr class, sunny, t-shirt and shorts on everyone outside; then a front comes through and we have 20 degree (and dropping) temps, snow coming down horizontally due to 40-45 mph winds.
    Dynamic...yeah.

    2. Here in Florida we'll get days where the dark temperature is 20s-30s, warm up to light temperatures of 60's-70's and then temps plummet again when dark comes. So in the morning you have to dress like Nanuck until you get to work, where the 'I'm Cold' people have the heater up to 78-80 range, so you have to dress like summer, then it warms up to semi-summer outside, which makes the heat of the building - the dry heat - bake you like a potato wrapped in tin foil, and then by time work is over dark has appeared again and the temperature drops so you have to Nanuck on the way home.

Love it when it's 40ish and rainy, and I still have to wear shorts and sandals because where I am going is just a giant easy-bake oven. I'll risk being slightly cold and wet over having to do the winter strip everywhere I go.

    3. Our lab is either unheated, or has a direct conduit to the sun. They keep modifying the inside of the building without modifying the HVAC. Then the bosses are puzzled that the Facilities guys are always pissed off at them.

    4. One of the doctor's offices that we go to puts us into a big room where the air register is taped over. So, within 30 seconds of nurse leaving room Mr. Pocketknife comes out and slashes said tape to shreds. Ahhh... blessed air.

I can stand warmer rooms if the air is moving. Warm, still room? I'm gone. Fallen asleep in all sorts of bad places and bad times.

    5. Oh yeah, been there, done that.

  5. Throne room looks great! Congrats on leading the project to completion!
I have eye salve too. THe blurriness your Dr. may have been referring to is on account of the stuff being hard to see clearly through, rather than any effect it may have on you actual eye usefulness (?). I have drops called "Pazeo" which are very soothing as well. Ask if they are indicated in your situation.
    Reign fairly and long!

    1. I know the cause of the blurriness inducing goop, just don't like it. But I suppose it beats the alternative. I'm leaning towards the goop.

The basic weather post, all dressed up as a remodeling update.
    Nice work. 😝

That said, no master bath should be built without two sinks unless there’s a separate dressing area for the distaff side.
    Just sayin’.

  7. Hey AFSarge;

The work looks really good on the Bathroom. There are somethings I will let the "professionals" do, ignorance is bliss, LOL My wife has the dry eye problem, she used the fake tears and put warm medicated pads on her eyes for 5 minutes, to help.

    2. Hey AFSarge;

My Spousal unit said that the stuff mentioned to her by her eye Dr is called" Bruder moist heat compression", it is heated and you lay it over your eyes..Supposed to help with the tear ducts.

  8. The bathroom looks beautiful! Congratulations. For the dry eyes, I recommend Refresh Optiva Gel drops. Consider using a small humidifier in the bedroom, or try an eye mask to help keep your eyes shut all night.

    1. I like the humidifier idea, whole house is too dry in the winter. Drives the feline staff crazy what with the static.

  9. How long did you live with pink bathroom? And what's the color of the other?

As others have said, looks nice. I like a clean, uncluttered bathroom. Especially one that is comfortable enough to take a long, un-California shower in (can you believe they passed a law fining people who use over 55 gallons a day? Yikes, just in not-showers I use a decent 30-40 a day washing and cleaning.)

You'll have to give us a report on the shower head performance. I have always wondered how those feel.

    1. 20 years in the pink. I shudder to think of it.

Again I say that California could be solved with the application of martial law. Drive out the idiots, then hold free elections where you actually have to be a citizen to vote. And a non-felon.

Will do on the shower fead performance, AAR to follow once I'm granted Freie Jagd in there.

  10. Interesting coincidence -- the next rboc post I'm working on features a squirrels and squirrelly in strong supporting roles. I was just writing that yesterday. How did you know?

The Taj Mahtoilette looks great. I especially love the flat screen television niche. Can't wait to see what brand TMH chooses!

Really love the snowy street scene picture.

    2. You should know what is going on, it isn't that big of a room. Your new head looks quite nice, by the way. Why curtains rather than doors?

Heh, not that big a room, I see what ya did there. 😁

    1. It helps to have been on the night shift for so many years in the Air Force. I tend to stay up late, then sleep late. Unless I'm working the next day, that tends to hurt at times.

    2. We've talked about this in the past, how I use some pharmaceutical help, but it only keeps me asleep overnight, not really allowing me to sleep later
