Yes, Ma'am. That is an F-4D, tail number 66 7463/ An aircraft I actually worked on back in the day. On Okinawa and in Korea. She was a much fabled bird, those six red stars on the intake were from Vietnam. She now sits in front of the Air Force Academy on static display. A fact I did not know until a few months ago. Made the Old AF Sarge happy that she didn't end life as a drone or sitting out in the boneyard.

Didja know a bunch of Boat School exchange students painted that Phantom in Blue Angels colors... completely, and a good job of it, too... as a prank before the Air Force Navy game a few years back? Lex did a post on it with some pics I gave him, which were forwarded to me by some forgotten source. One of the best pranks, EVAH, and the Middies used water-based paint, so it cleaned right up.
Kind of busy... How about a rotating mast head like the Castle Argghhh!!!? Not that I know how to set one up.
ReplyDeleteIt is kind of busy, though I like busy. The rotating thing is cool. I wonder how they do that?
DeleteYa know it's not the package that matters so much as what's in the package.
ReplyDeleteThat is unless you're only a one year old.
Good point Skip. I will strive to keep the content up to my reader's standards.
DeleteThe header is appropriate and that's all that counts, eh?
ReplyDeleteYou got that right.
Delete(Pardon my grammar...)
Is that a... Phantom??? Yes that's a Phantom! Oh, yay!!!!! The world has gone a bit brighter already! :D

DeleteI don't recall the outcome o' the game. But the prank made a BIG impression!
DeleteI can well imagine!
DeleteOld AFS, how could I NOT notice a Phantom?? And what a cool story! I, too, am glad she is not in some boneyard somewhere.
