F/A-18E Super Hornets of VFA-31 "Tomcatters" Carrier Air Wing 8, USS George H. W. Bush |
Joe came up with the idea for the Friday Flyby and it is something I look forward to doing every week. Some weeks I agonize over what to post on Friday. Well, I agonize until I start looking at aircraft photos on Google. Normally I just start with a random aviation-related phrase. From there the pictures kind of spur me on. I think I found some good ones today.
So to Joe, thanks again. And to Buck, yes I know I started with some Navy birds, but be patient brother, there's a lot of Air Force power here today as well. So, seats upright, trays in the stowed position and fasten your seat belts. We are cleared for take-off!

Time for some Air Force action!
B-52 with F-16 and EA-6B Escort. Looking, no doubt, to kick some butt! |
E-3 Sentry, aka AWACS Airborne Warning and Control Keeping an eye open for the "bad guys"! |
Oh baby! |
Get some! |
Sweet! |
So how about some F-22 Raptor action instead? Pretty sweet looking aerospace vehicle if you ask me.
If it looks fast... |
...it is fast! |
C-17 Globemasters Hey, Trash Haulers need love too! But this bunch is probably hauling paratroopers, so you had best watch your mouth! |
Bad to the Bone baby, buh buh buh buh buh bad! |
I see AMRAAMs and AIM-7 Sparrows on these F-16s! And don't forget the 20mm cannon. The Viper will kick your butt! |
F-15 Strike Eagle rolling in hot... Time to take cover methinks! |
Ah, the Thunderbirds in their current ride. I've seen the F-16 "up close and personal" it is one fast (and maneuverable) ride! |
Hhhmm, the Navy is back I see. No problem, I love the Blues! |
Some Hawkeye love for the Steeljaw Scribe |
Yup, some more Hawkeye. I think the E-2 is a cool looking bird. Of course, I spent 7 and a half years with an AWACS outfit... ...so I'm used to airplanes mating with flying saucers! |
And we don't want my buddy Pinch to feel left out. No way! |
There is no truth to the rumor that Pinch was the RIO on this flight. But I'm betting he wishes he was... (Yes, I have seen the video, it is awesome.) |
Still pretty awesome though!
EA-6B of VAQ-132 "Scorpions" Carrier Air Wing Seventeen, USS Carl Vinson |
And y'all thought I would forget my buddy ORPO1? Nevah happen Gee-Eye! |
Navy Birds out of Atsugi Doing a flyby of Fujiyama. |
Hey! Where did that Phantom come from? It is my blog and I am a Phormer Phantom Phixer. So I can do stuff like that! |
Man do I love birds that go fast!
Phantastik! And nothing beats the A-10 for low, slow and destructive!
ReplyDeleteThe A-10 gets down in the weeds and kicks butt! Love that aircraft.
DeleteThank you OAFS! Every time I see that little pic of my Brother's old plane I get a bit misty.
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you how much I look forward to putting this post together every Friday. It's a lot of fun, your idea was great!
Delete"Prandtl-Glauert Singularity"
ReplyDeleteI actually learned something today. That's not an easy thing for anyone to accomplish, so kudos to you.
I think the only reason I remember that is because it's named after a couple of German guys.
DeleteI'll take the kudos though!
Phantoms rock. Simple as that.
ReplyDeleteIndeed they do.
DeleteBZ, Chris.
ReplyDeleteThe Bone is the prettiest aircraft in the inventory today, IM(NS)HO.
We used to have Lawn Darts here at Cannon Airplane Patch before SpecOps moved in. SN1 was an AMXS weenie while he was here so I got a LOT of "up-close-and-personal" time around the jets. I really miss those days.
Thanks Buck.
DeleteI agree with you regarding the Bone, a very pretty jet. When I was at Offutt we used to see them a lot. As our building was not far at all from Runway 12, got to see them land (impressive) and take off (awesome when they're in burner!)
If you go to Google Maps and zoom into Offutt, my office building is at the corner of Washington Square and SAC Boulevard. As you can see very close to the runway. And everything flew into SAC at one time or another back in the day.
Saw everything from the German JU-52 to our very own SR-71. (Tomcats too, but don't recall seeing any Hornets.)
