And it's aaaa????????

Well, Father's Day weekend was especially gratifying this year.  Saturday we drove over to Moscow on the Colorado for a get together with MBD and SIL and his family. Why did we make a trip there?

Simple, it was the day they revealed the gender of our first grandchild.

Unfortunately, we had a quick turn on the guest house that day so didn't get to stay quite as long as we would have liked.

A quick turn, Beans, means that new guests arrive shortly after the current guests depart.  Mrs J, rightly so, is adamant about getting the place "Ship-shape and Bristol fashion".  My job?  Change the linens, make the beds, dust the furniture, vacuum, shake out the rugs and other actions as directed.  But....I don't have to clean the toilets.

So...I've got that going for me.

But, business is business, so we left and had the house mostly done when Mrs J received a phone call from the guests asking for an early check-in.  Mrs J negotiated an ok, if it was alright if we dropped of the hand sanitizer and coffee creamer to them when we got back from town.

Kind of a Covid and Cream kinda thing.

They said ok, so we were good to go.  Nice folks.  New to Texas, from Florida.

Hey! How about Governor Abbot?  Vetoing the State Legislature's payroll bill because one party decided to stage a walkout on the last day to protest a law that would tighten State Election procedures. Guess which one.

Love the guy!

Where was I?  Oh, the folks from Florida.  Had two small kids and asked if they could go see Cabernet and Merlot.

Yes, Beans, the kids are too young for wine.  Our horses, remember, are named Cabernet and Merlot.

Cabernet

Merlot

With the Guests ensconced in the guesthouse, Mrs J and I settled in for the evening and discussed the great news about a grandchild and the machinations used to keep its gender secret until the reveal.

Now do you get the thought behind the title?

Here's video of the great moment.

Looking forward to meeting you face to face, Magnolia Grace!

    1. Well, Range Safety Officer SIL DID give a pretty lengthy "BeNo" briefing prior to the reveal.

      Thanks, Nylon

    1. Fortunately, SIL's folks live off Bee Cave Road just inside TX 1, so I didn't have to get too close to the frequent pockets of stupid.

There was much more Chaff deployed than I expected. I suspect there will be confetti on the ground for years to come.

  3. Congratulations Juvat!! What a lovely name.

(The cynical part of me is thinking "What? People can do such things in a responsible, adult manner and not blow things up or set fires? Who knew?" Not that I am cynical, of course, but I understand that others are...)

    1. Thanks THBB.
As I mentioned above, SIL did give a safety briefing. I was impressed with how loud it was and am glad we did it outside. Inside might have been painful.
There's nothing wrong with being cynical, however, you should ask yourself if you are being cynical enough. One never knows nowadays.

    2. Yup. Farm girls. One of the most famous was known to be able to squeeze so hard she could make her horses pass out (Joan of Arc...)

    3. Didn't know that. Interesting.

    4. The 'Maid of Orleans' was a big strapping farm girl from the border between France and the Germanies.

So, well, funny when she's played by short, sylvan girls. Think more 'Russian Mortar Crew' than 'Fashion Model.' Yet another thing our history teachers got very wrong. Very very wrong.

    1. Made my Father's day!

Evidently, my grandfather callsign will be "Pappa Julio". Much like my fighter pilot callsign, one does not get a vote on it, nor should one protest it lest it stick harder. So, it is written....

    2. It could have been far worse. And the real call sign (for Magnolia Grace's use) won't be assigned until she sticks one on you.

    3. That's true, in both cases.

    1. Thanks, BBC. Yeah, we're pretty jazzed about it. And my daughter can play me like a fiddle. When we first found out she was pregnant, she announced that Magnolia Grace would be the name if it was a girl. We asked about boys names, but both Mrs J and I thought it was going to be a girl. AFTER she found out the gender, she said they'd figured out the name if it was a boy. Owen Buck. Owen is SIL's grandfather's name and Buck is my Fathers. Since both his family and ours are big into "familial" names, and they'd obviously put some thought into what to name it if it was a boy....I bit on the lure and changed my vote to boy. Mrs J, who provided the guile gene, to MBT, stayed with girl. Ahh well, isn't the first time I've been wrong, won't be the last. Besides, I'm looking forward to a grandchild I can read to, play with and hand her back to her mother when she has poopy diapers.

Nah, most Texans are pretty happy with him, we think we'll keep him. But there is a way to make him your governor.....

    2. All very great Texan sounding names. Too bad she's not having twins...you could use them both!
I forgot to compliment you on your horses. Great choice of names there as well. I'm thinking I should feature horses on my blog again, and after seeing yours...well, mind if I "pick" 'em? I'll give you credit.

It's hot here in the central part of my state today - 94º so I don't think I'd hold up down there. Ha!

I can hardly wait for a boy from the clan, man. That'll be a hoot-n-nanny....

    4. BBC, Just got back in from a walk. 93 out which is just about as hot as it "usually" gets. Breaking 100 isn't unusual, but it's not as often as most people think. Plus we're close enough to the coast to get some wind but far enough away that humidity isn't stultifying. All In all, we like it a lot. JusssssT Right!

  9. We have DeSantis. Who is sending state troopers and FDLE folk (our state bureau of investigation, because FBI was already taken by a bunch of Yankee poltroons) to the Texas and Arizona borders to combat smuggling of people and not-people.

Who also signed into law the "Hit them if you must to escape with your life" law for people caught in peaceful protests on the road. And other great things.

Problem is we have a yuuuuge block of in-state RINOs from the Broward-Dade area who are screwing up any chances of us getting any Constitutional Carry and other gun laws like Texas and Missouri have. Bastids.

As to the turn-and-burn to MBD-SIL-FGC's locale because you had to quick-turn on the house and still had them come early, at least you got to see the chaff popping.

Could have been worse. There's a guy with a youse-tube channel where he chronicles his life after blowing himself up for a gender reveal (loss of arm, eye and other body parts.)

Ah, for the simpler times, when you could 'tell' the gender by what is or isn't on the baby when it comes out, and then compare it to what was expected when the baby dropped in position in the last few weeks before birth. Ancient times. Simpler times. So much easier now to know what the child is if one believes in science and the two-genders-only concept (otherwise known as 'The Innie-Outie Rule'.)

Looking forward to the future call-sign assignment on the new sprout.

    1. Yeah, he's on my list of "pretty good guys" also. Hard to believe that self-defense has to be written into laws nowadays, but better to have it in, than have it interpreted. We've got a lot of RINOs and Demmies in the Big Cities, Austin and San Antonio primarily, that get in the way of common sense, and I was afraid this one wouldn't pass, but the DA's (Dumb is the first word in that acronym) shot their wad when they walked out of the Election Reform debate. Abbot vetoing the bill to approve their pay was a master stroke that sits well with most Texans (and others with a head on their shoulder). "Left early and didn't finish your assignment? No pay!" Just like it is for mere mortal workers. We'll see if they've learned their lesson or not.

      Delete
    2. Would have been funny if, when the DAs walked out, the legislature still had enough of a quorum to vote. Seen it in small groups where someone or someones goes off in a snit and grudge-rules are passed.

      And, no, they won't learn.

    3. That last was the remaining vestiges of hope for sanity regarding the DA's and sense the A in that stands for another name for a donkey, and the donkey is the mascot of... Well, you know.

  11. That's awesome, juvat- you and Mrs. J are obviously looking forward to spoiling her rotten, and of course young Maggie (or will she go by Grace? We shall see) will wrap you completely around her little finger. As it should be! May she come into this world healthy and happy, live a fruitful life, and not leave too soon.
