Un poco de esto, un poco de aquello*

Well.  First things First.  Today (Sunday) is an important day for me. So let me address that.

Honey, 40 years?  I still remember looking at you walking towards me down the aisle and having a very hard time believing you were actually going to marry ME?  Through the ups and downs and literally around the world, you have always been the best part of my life.  My partner, the mother of my children, my friend, my love.  May we have many, many more years together. I love you.

Ok, Sarge, you can put away your hankie.  The mooshy part is over.

Let's talk about the Weather!

You remember this picture from early August?  A teasing Rainbow? Isn't the grass a lovely shade of....Brown?

Yes, well, what a difference a month makes (or actually 3 consecutive days of Rain).

We've had about 7" total in the past week or so.  Thank you, Lord!

Yes, Mrs. J and I mowed it shortly after this was taken.

Showed that picture to "Tony, the Hay Guy" and asked when he'd be out to take a cutting.  "Get in Line, juvat, the whole county looks like that!"

Sheesh! Couple of weeks ago and he was all "Woe is me, got no hay to cut."  Now, look at him.

In all fairness to him, he's always been scheduling about 2 weeks out, so I'm kinda expecting him around the end of the month.

On a different note, Mrs. J, MBD, SIL MG and I along with our winemaker friends are, as of now, 8 days from our cruise.  Fly out on the 13th to Barcelona, arrive on the 14th and sail on the 15th.  Aaron over at The Shekel - Coins, Law and Commentary did a similar cruise and provided a lot of helpful "what to see/do" info. Looking forward to it.  Doing that "getting away" thing has been a while for some stupid  strange reason.

How are things with the youngest Grandchild, juvat?  Thought you'd never ask, Sarge.  Apparently, we met an important milestone this past week.  LJD reached double her birth weight.  She was just under 1.2 lbs (540 grams to be specific) at birth and now weighs 2.4 lbs. (1080 grams).  Whoop!!!!

I finally got my coughing/runny nose under control last weekend, but stayed away from visiting her until Thursday, just to be extra cautious.  Mrs. J and I went and Granddad got to hold her for the first time.

The Nurses call the swaddling a "Baby Burrito".

I got to hold her for an hour! Then Mrs. J. said she wanted her for a while.  I would have protested except my arm was completely numb.  As the nurse took her from me, I mentioned that and she replied that they have a special cushion that rests on your lap and supports your arm and the baby.

Now, she tells me.

Seriously, though, if there are Saints walking the Earth right now, I'd bet my bottom dollar they're wearing NICU garb.  What amazing and wonderful people.

Well, that about covers everything.  Y'all take care and be sure to "Peace Out!"

*A little of this, a little of that.

    1. Nylon,
Thanks. Ain't time a glorious thing? At the same moment, 40 years seems like both a long time and 1.28 seconds ago. Strange, but wonderful.
Green is definitely good, except for that push mower thing (My responsibility, Mrs. J gets the riding lawn mower.

  2. Happy anniversary!
I remember when a "kilogram kid" surviving was a miracle.
Have a happy boat trip. Buen suerte!

Looking forward to it. Well...maybe not the plane ride, but the rest...

  3. Congratulations all the way around...anniversary of your marriage, LJD's weight gain, grandpa holding her for the first time and now praying that the "hay guy" doesn't tear up any of his equipment before he cuts and bales your hay pasture!
Rain has been great, and not a lot of run off....Thank You G-D!

    1. Cletus,
Thanks, Yep, it's been a good week, thanks to the Big Guy.
7" and our stock tank is still bone dry. Not that I'm complaining, merely noting how bad it's been.
As you said, Thank You, Lord!

Wonderful news on LJD's progress AND you got to hold her!

Getting some rain is an awful good thing in these dry times.

    1. Thanks, Sarge. Looking forward to going back and holding her again! (With the support pillow in place, of course.)
Yeah it is. Infuriates me when I hear folks complaining about the humidity. Makes me want to offer to drive them back to California.

  7. That is the best picture ever Juvat. Totally brightened up my day!

Congratulations on your anniversary. That is quite an accomplishment.

The Ravishing Mrs. TB and Nighean Bhan (Second child) went to Barcelona in 2019 and loved it.

    1. We've been to the Italian stops we're going to visit before although without MBD, SIL and MG. But the Spain and Med Islands will be new to us. The cruise ship Covid hoop jumping event is irritating at this point. Got to figure out Zulu times for here and there to get the test within the 72 hour window. That's my task for today. The mental picture of sitting out on our balcony with a cool adult recreational beverage in my hand is all that's keeping me going at this point.
      ;-)

  8. Here I am, late to the party...been canning all day...first time I've sat down today.
So glad to see LJD continuing with forward and upward progress!!! And that is a lovely picture of the 3 of you!!
And congratulations on 40 years!! If my memory serves, aren't there a few birthdays and another anniversary in your family group?
    Anyways, congratulations!!
And Praise the Big Guy for rain. Have actually had rain all day here today--nice, gentle, steady, soaking into the ground cool rain!! Thank Him from Whom all Blessings Flow!!!

    1. Suz,
Sounds like you had a busy, productive day. Well done.
Thanks, yes, my Parent's Anniversary and Mrs. J's Mom's Birthday are all on the 4th and Little Juvat and LJW's anniversary is on the 5th. Mrs. J's birthday and MG's are within a day of each other. Now with LJD's birth on the 20th of July, the pattern is complete. She was born within a couple of day's of my Sister. So...with my "Senior Moments" increasing in frequency, I only have to remember 3 time periods a year AKA circling them on the calendar and entering them on my phone. Much less chance of screwing this up. Win/Win.

Yep, He came through when needed. As usual.

  9. Happy Anniversary and wishes for many more, and that LJD continues to grow and get healthier with every day!

The 72-hour covid test was a pain (quick hint apparently the antigen test, rather than PCR test is the way to go as if you've had a booster, the antigen test has a bias towards giving a negative result, or so I've been told). We were just inside the 72-hours for ours, but the person taking out tests (and handing them back) seemed far more interested in the fact they said negative than the exact time. More posts on the cruise to follow.

    1. Aaron, Thanks. As I've said a few times before, She's not out of the woods yet, but she's headed in the right direction.

Took a bit of ciphering, but we board at 1300-1330 Barcelona time, which is 7 hours ahead of here, so we can take the test any time after 0430 on the 12th local time. We fly late on the 13th, so we've got a pretty good window. Our only question at this point is how long it takes to get the results back. Any Data?

As I mentioned, your posts have been very useful in figuring out the what to do stuff, so thanks!

    2. Clinics here that do the Antigen test provide the certified results in about 15 minutes. Be surer to tell them its for travel and you need a written test result. PCR tends to take at least 24 hours for a turnaround, so the Antigen test is the one to go with for sure.

    1. Old NFO,

Her growth rate is actually very visible. The NICU nurse said that this is the time the Mom really starts showing pregnancy with the child in the womb, so it is understandable that the LJD's growth rate would be noticeable also. Makes sense to me.

Thanks. Looking forward to arrival in Barcelona. The trip itself? I'm expecting quite a bit of anxiety ramp down once we board the plane, another ramp down once we clear customs and the final ramp down once we board and my Beautiful Wife and I can enjoy an adult recreational beverage in our cabin.

So. about par for the course.

      Thanks.

  11. Happy Anniversary! OK, I'm late, sorry.
That picture of you three is a keeper. Having experiences like that tend to wean us off of the "fighter pilot mindset", whatever that may be for you. I can speak for myself, grand kids have mellowed me out more than I ever thought possible!
Happy cruising, as well! Can an unvaxxed person travel at all? I know what you mean about the beverage in your own room - finally. Miss Jeanie and I have led several trips to Israel (with guide). The pressure to get circumstances into the hands of the people in the destination country is great. Have fun, take pictures, love your wife.

  12. LtFuzz,
    Thanks and No Worries!
Yeah, I like that picture a lot also. You're right, having that little girl in my arms did wonders for my BP and pulse rate. Getting back in the truck for the drive home through San Antonio Traffic however......
I just checked with Mrs. J and she informed me that there are three cases (For Spain our port of entry/departure, other places may be different)
    1) You're vaccinated with 3 shots.
    2) You're vaccinated with 2 shots and have had a negative Covid test within 72 hours of embarkation.
    3) You're unvaccinated but have a Certification of recovery from Covid signed by your Doctor.

I did not know that the last was an option. That having been said, I think I'd rather not have that option available to me.

    Will do...on all three.
