Blarg!

Today has been a bit of a refrigerator monster day, no new injuries, just frustrating and tiring, involving labwork and stupidity, so...

Here's the original Refrigerator Monster, from the webcomic The Whiteboard.

The Whiteboard, a somewhat paintball-related webcomic by "Doc" Nickel (the-whiteboard.com)

This starts the Refrigerator Monster arc, though not starting the whole webcomic.

So, well, as RM says, "Blarg!"

As to the rest of the world, Spike Jones comes to mind.  He's one of the best parody musicians ever.  Popular before and during WWII, he basically made fun of everyone and everything.

And on to modern times, more parody from Weird Al.

Peace Out!

  1. Spike Jones' City Slickers had to be exceptional musicians, in order to play consistently that badly. I have always found him to be very enjoyable.

    1. Like Werner Klempener, who was a concert-level violinist. Otherwise known as Colonel Klink. Sometimes it takes talent to sound so bad.

    2. His Dad was an uber musician, as well. PDQ takes people of City Slicker grade, to really pull it off.

    3. Oh, yeah, got "The Wurst of Bach" and it's a great album.

    4. IIRC (highly doubtful) , there was an episode of "Hogan's Hero's" where Mr. Klemperer (2 Rs no N) played the violin. I remember thinking that it had to have been dubbed in as no actor could be that good. I stand corrected.

    5. The thing about 'concert' level soloists is that there's only room on top for a limited handful. Klemperer was really good, just that there were 4-5 that were better, so he could spend time in the orchestra or do something else.

  2. Parody is such an effective way to ridicule people in power. Pity it's fallen by the wayside recently.
    Just sayin'
    Enjoyed the post, Beans, thanks!

    1. You're welcome, anonymous juvat.

Can't see the fainting snowflakes and limp-spined sheeple handling good parody and piercing comedy.

What's that line? "You wouldn't be able to make "Blazing Saddles" today." Which is a sad statement after all.

      Make woke bullscat, yes.

Which is why it was very surprising that "Maverick" was made and turned out so successful, and why Hollyweird is freaking out about how good "John Wick 4" is.

    2. Sadly, all too often the BabylonBee's parody articles are becoming truths.

  3. When I saw TOP GUN in the theater (last movie I saw in one), I think I saw a trailer for a Wierd Al Yankovic bio movie. Looked pretty funny from what I remember, but I don't remember if it actually came out or was a "next summer" type of trailer. Not that I'd go see it in the theater, but your post reminded me of it.

    1. That would be "UHF" and it is a classic. Not for everyone, but I enjoyed it. Check it out however you get movies these days.

    2. Actually, I think the movie he's talking about is "Weird: The Al Yankovic Story". Just recently released and is a parody about Al's life starring Harry Potter as Al. Supposed to be pretty funny (and Al plays a record producer in it, so he was on board.) Oh, UHF is too funny for mortals such as we.

  4. Never heard of "The Whiteboard" before. I'm a big Schlock fan. I have a new favorite now.

    1. It's a very interesting webcomic. Starts out literally drawn on a whiteboard and then photocopied, but over the years has been refined quite a bit. There's some stuff that's not really understandable unless one is in the know about paintball, though one can pick up the info pretty quick by inference. Other references to other webcomics may or may not make any sense.

    2. I used to play paintball. I've seen characters from Schlock Mercenary and Sluggy Freelance on there.

  5. I remember all of these but you missed what also was playing in my house - Yogi Yorgesson - Someone Spiked The Punch At Lena's Wedding. And of course he did Christmas songs. My mother married into a Swedish family. This was quite the departure from hearing classical to Yogi.

  6. Thanks Beans. Not sure when I'll come out of this blue funk, but it's good to know you're keeping things going.

  7. My band teacher always said it was always the most talented musicians that could pull off such things, as they are the only one who know how to do it badly in such a way that it sounds perfectly.

    1. Ayep. It surely does take talent. It's harder to do good comedy than it is to do good drama.
