Hey Look! It's Tuesday!

PxHere
Still not in a story-telling mood. I was even too lazy to come up with a halfway decent title for this post. But hey, at the very least you get to see a nice picture of geese swans swimming on a foggy lake in, I'm guessing here, the morning. The foggy lake reminds me of a dream I once had, which reminds me of the dream I had Sunday night. (Might have been in the wee hours of Monday morning, I wasn't looking at my watch at the time because, ahem, I was asleep.)

Let's start with the dream I once had. (Which was called into the foreground of my walnut-sized brain by the photo above - yes, I am equating myself to a dinosaur, it's an age thing, I suppose.)

This dream was some years ago, it rather sticks in my head (I could say "haunts me," which isn't far from the truth) for some reason. I was sitting on a porch of some kind, drinking coffee as it was morning. A foggy morning next to a body of water (might have been the ocean, might have been a big lake, the dream wasn't all that clear about that), a bit chilly but not too bad.

As I was drinking my coffee, a fellow stopped by my table and asked me how I was doing. I thought that odd, as I was sure I didn't know anyone at this place (which might have been a hotel/resort of some kind). I turned to answer and saw that the guy was in running togs, old school type running togs, ya know sweat pants, sweat shirt, and he had a towel around his neck. He was pretty sweaty, like he'd just finished a really good workout.

As I turned to answer I recognized him, it was Lex.

Yup, rather stunned I was, Lex had been gone for a while at that point. I then woke up.

A communication from beyond? Just a dream? I dunno, felt pretty damned real to me. I remember it clearly to this day.

Anyhoo, Sunday night ...

Perhaps I should preface this with the data point that The Missus Herself is down Maryland way for a cuppla weeks to help with the grandsons. (Mom's down in Oz on business.) Just to be clear, I tend to get a bit feral when she's not around, reverting to primitive ways so to speak.

Anyhoo, Sunday night. I was having a dream wherein I was flying, in an aircraft though I couldn't guess which type. I was indeed the pilot, it's something I know (in theory) how to do, and have actually done. (Where I discovered that's it a bit more complex than it seems on the surface. Why do I keep climbing? Is that too much throttle? What do you mean "Did I trim the aircraft?" Things of that nature. Straight and level can be a challenge to the uninitiated.)

So yeah, where was I? Ah ...

Yes, I was flying, there I was (no, it's not the start of a war story, see SJC), in the air, having the time of my life, when I get the call to go ahead and land. Hhmm, but I don't want to land yet.

Land. (Non-negotiable sounding.)

So I turn into the wind, how do I know I'm turning into the wind? Well, I'm suddenly landing on an aircraft carrier, carriers steam into the wind to recover aircraft, I'm about to land aboard one of those big beasties so, ipso facto, I'm turning into the wind to land.

Sounds like a great dream Sarge, what's the problem? Crappy weather? Pitching deck? No, none of the above. CAVU in all respects.

In fact, as I'm coming in, looking for the LSO, I notice that my cats are on deck, waiting for me. So I'm ecstatic, I really miss my cats, they're ecstatic as well, happy to see me and all. Then it struck me, they're no longer in this world, am I about to enter theirs?

Throttle to full, flaps and gear up, I ain't ready to land.

Not yet.

I wonder what it all means?

Something I ate? Am I going around the bend? Have I slipped my mooring?

Or did I get a glimpse of the future? Who knows? Maybe y'all can figure it out.

At least it makes an interesting topic for discussion.

Or not.

  1. That photo gets recreated every day down on the lake two blocks down from me, flocks of ducks and honkers (Canadians) winging over the house en route to the lake. About that second dream Sarge, be careful driving and make sure the will is up to date, don't think you want to join your cats just yet........:)

  2. I thought the title "Hey look it's Tuesday" was funny.... I'm retired and have a day-of-the-week analog clock so it's easy to check on just what day it is... maybe twice a week I feel the need.
I though just having the day-of-the-week clock was amusing, turns out needing it now & then is even more so!

Can't help with the dream... I almost never remember dreams.

    1. I'm not retired yet, but it's getting so there are two days in each week - one long one where I have to go to work and a shorter one where I don't.

    2. Rob, I thought I was the only one with one of those clocks. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!

    3. We band of brothers that can't remember what day of the week it is! :-)
I had a house fire and lost the first one, I bought it again...

    5. Ha. You know you're old when you use the pill-minders to tell you what day and what 1/3rd of a day you are in. Oh, look, it's Monday at noon... Bleh.

  4. It IS a topic for conversation Sarge. Like Rob, I rarely remember my dreams and awoke today both having remembered one and thinking today was Sunday. My dream is of little note but before "coming over" I was doing some aviation-related "study" which led down into Roy Grumman founding the amazing company that still bears his name (sorta). His life -and that of Jake Swirbul - remind me of the amazing people this country once produced in numbers. I'm working hard on not being a complete curmudgeon so I will note that we still produce good people; we just don't see them very often in the media - even those of us who eschew most of the lame-stream, commie stuff put out for the masses ( I did note that I am "trying" to fight curmudgeonhood).

    1. The good people are out there, though they do seem fewer in number than back in the day. However, I'm convinced that they don't help push the MSM's agenda, which, from what I can see, is the collapse of Western Civilization, so they get very little press.

As for being a curmudgeon, let it flow into you, embrace it, go outside and yell at clouds. It's our only defense against advancing decrepitude. (At least that's my story and I'm sticking with it.)

  6. It's hard to say whether one should retire. It depends on how much you love you job, I guess. I used to love the flying parts of my jobs, but the hassle factor kept increasing and demanding more rule abiding. Rules which go beyond relating to getting the job done are aggravating.
My body was inserted into an almost unbelievable world of technology yesterday. Five people all hovering around me doing stuff with fluoroscopic do-dads and talking to me - BINK! - I'm back in the recovery room with a sore groin (can I say that?). Anyway out of the room with the thingee screwed into my heart muscle from the inside. Go figure. Seems to work. Thanks for the prayers.

    2. Heh, so LtFuzz, now you know how your jet felt after coming out of maintenance!

Seriously though, hope all is well with you and praying your new heart thingee gives you a lot more mileage on your existing airframe. (Heh, he said "sore groin.")

  7. I could say that dreaming about your dead is a portent of your own death, but I've been dreaming about dead people and pets for decades. So...

Wonder what's got your mind disturbed? Might be time to do a little navel viewing (as in looking down into oneself) and think about things that are bothering you that are in the background.

    Other than that, yeah... weird.

    1. The break from fiction writing is for navel gazing, sort of. My mind? Disturbed? Hhmm ...

  8. Lex probably just stopped by to commend you for your acceptance into the upper level of Mil Blogger world. We all owe him a lot for what he left us.

    2. Sarge,
Did you ever meet him in person? If not, that get's kinda supernatural to recognize him in a dream. I had a similar thing happen shortly after my Mom passed. She came in a dream and said that everything was all right. Very reassuring it was. But then I knew her quite well for some 50 years. If you hadn't met him, well, that takes the experience to a whole new dimension (probably literally).

    3. Never met him in person, we exchanged emails not too long before his accident. I've met his family since then, lovely people.

Yes, the experience was fascinating, and not a little unsettling, but in a good way. If that makes sense.

  10. Sarge, I do not remember many of my dreams, but occasionally there are ones that seem to be of significant. I do not put a lot of stock in dream interpretation, but these are fun if for no other reason than thinking:
