So a good visit. Unfortunately it required my eyes to be dilated.
Bright lights, ow.
Staring at monitor, ow. (Don't suggest dark screen mode, then I might as well be completely blind.)

Good news on the vision front Sarge, rest those peepers.
ReplyDeleteThe old Mk 1 Mod 0 light sensors are still functioning within acceptable parameters. (Though with the cataract surgery, I guess the left one is now a Mk 1 Mod 1 light sensor.)
Deleteah yes... the dialated eyes... everything gets bright and shiny, kinda like being on some of the drugs i may, or may not have, tried in my young and stupid days
ReplyDeleteWay too bright and shiny. I walked out of the Doc's office and felt like a vampire, hissing at the brightness of the sun just before bursting into flames. Fortunately, I skipped the bursting into flames part.

ReplyDeleteI take Dad to his retina specialist for eyeball injections to slow down his macular degeneration, which while sounding and looking like no fun at all, have managed to keep things stable for about 2 years now, so he can still read the newspaper. So the pre-trip check list includes super-dark sunglasses and a ball cap. Not a bad deal for being almost 95 years old. But still the sun does seem to increase in brightness when we leave the office as compared to when we walked in.
Glad your eyeballs are behaving themselves!

This getting old thing is not for sissies. Congrats on the good report. My cataract surgeries are scheduled for August; the eye drop drugs have been very effective in correcting my eye pressue and so not going blind (yet). Thank you, Lord, and those praying for me.

DeleteReminds me of my late friend, Dirty Al Imhoff. He spent four days in the VA Hospital. Detached retinas and cataracts. I called him a few days later to see how he was doing. He was quite pleased with the results but upset, in his absence, the county had put up several stop signs.

DeleteIt is good that road signs are different colors and shapes (along with driving familiar routes knowing where speed limits change). Before cataract surgery, that reddie blur is a stop sign.

DeleteI had my cataracts done over here in the UK. I should have had them done earlier but C19 intervened and destroyed waiting lists. Apart from having the operations done at different hospitals I had no problems at all. Vision wise its like having an upgrade from 625 line analogue TV to 4K HD. My distance vision is better than it has ever been. I did have to stop driving between ops as my depth perception went completely. With your vision if it's a progressive deterioration you don't realise just how bad its become.

As things change little by little, you don't really notice it. I've had both retinae separate from the back of my eye balls, that was abrupt and very noticeable. I suppose it's why they recommend a visit to the eye doc every year!
DeleteMy wife had both eyes done (cataracts) she has difficulty driving at night now. Doc is working on that.
Sarge has serous stuff, so they have to dilate. I'm lucky to be more "normal" and my eye doc quit doing dilation for me, and uses some $$$$ camera device where you look at the light and "click" it takes a digital picture they can blow up and pretty much tell all they want to know, at least for regular folks. Sure like that LOT better than wasting a day every time waiting for the light to fade to normal.
