Patience ...

Source
It's not something I come by naturally, I have to work at it.

Folks blowing their own horn, I grit my teeth and bear it.

Folks glorying in their wondrous arguments on the Book of Face, I vomit a little in my mouth, then move on.

Fanatics of any stripe, I wonder what childhood trauma made them that way.

We all have a little asshole that lives inside us, the trick is not letting him (or her) speak when it is wiser to, ahem, hold your water.

I know, it's hard.

  1. Better to thought a fool though silent than open your mouth and remove all doubt.

I honestly would not bd surprised that in some way, this next four years essentially spells the end of social media as a viable force.

    1. Social Media feeds the wolf (old Indian good wolf and bad wolf story here) inside that wants attention.

It's a symptom not the disease. Unless the internet goes away it will remain.

It's not just the book of face, it's all of it including this site.

Feed the wolf you want to win.

    2. TB - I think social media is here to stay. No doubt it will change form, but it isn't going anywhere.

    3. Michael - Social media helps to smoke out the less intelligent and most ill-informed members of society.

    4. And sadly gives them attention. Feeding the bad wolf.

  2. We went to the beach to watch the sunset last Wednesday, there was a guy making balanced beach art there. Some folks just have the eye for it...
I keep telling myself that patience can be learned....

  3. Removed my account from The Book of Face years ago, don't miss it at all.

    1. Kids, grandkids, friends in far-flung places, social media is a way to stay in touch.

  4. y' don't even have to go to the idiot (FB type) sites, there are plenty of trolls who waste comment space on the good sites; seems they just can't hold their water

    1. Idiot meet keyboard, keyboard meet idiot. That and an internet connection is all it takes to get the troll out from under the bridge.

    2. Just saw a commercial for a world famous white shoe law firm that had a photo of the lawyer I was looking for featured under a very nice bridge and I immediately shouted, “Troll!” My wife was a little startled…..curtis

  5. When God was handing out patience, I got tired of standing in line and left.

  6. I often wonder if what I post on there is due to a little bit of narcissism on my part- do I do it for affirmation, or just because I like to share the pics of me and my wife in various locales? Is it just the modern version of someone showing you the slides from their vacation and so it's innocent? Since I don't care if I get likes or comments, I guess it's not completely narcissistic. Memes though? Definitely done to get laughs.
    Fine line I suppose.

    2. So it begins! A journey of 10,000 miles begins with the Hammers of Hell( (an alarm clock model) going off in the black of night. A final meal in the dining room and then a drop off at the Sydney Airport. Unfortunately, the Sydney to Austin flight does take 18 hours plus., so will be out of coms for a while. Had fun, but had an “Issue”, which shall not be discussed, but is called “Traveller’s” something. Put a bit of chill on the trip, but so it is. More on the “fun” details, and none on the not fun details, to follow.

    3. I found I could transpacific very nicely on 4 of those little airplane scotches. SFO to Narita in no time.

    4. juvat - Ouch! Enjoy the flight as much as you can. 🤔

    5. Any Mouse - Did the reverse once upon a time with a group of Marines. Gunny said he'd buy as long as I got them all to the gate and on the plane on time. Which, considering how much we drank in the airport bar, I did. Shortest trans-Pacific hop I'd ever done! A virtual time machine. Didn't realize that time travel could result in a hangover.

    6. Tuna, I usually feel that vacation pictures are pretty safe and it is more in my desire just to share with family and friends places that I have been. Other than that, my postings pretty much consist of specific and non-controversial things like swords and rabbits.

  7. My FB posts (when I have something innocuous and hopefully interesting to relate) are infrequent. I seem to find that the less I post, the more friends read and comment on them. However, recently I have been posting weekly pictures of the slow demise of a snowpile on my front lawn.

    1. The photos of shrinking snow piles are a northern staple in the spring.

    2. Snow Piles? What are they? Those tiny ping pong ball size things of melting snow that you have 5 minutes to throw before it’s gone? I’ve got seen one of those.

Yes. I’m in the Sydney airport. Have been for 3 hours, only 9 hours til boarding time.

    5. All that waiting around in airports is not for me. I'd rather drive.
But, if destination is Oz, there is a problem.
