Brig becalmed Francois Geoffroi Roux (Source) |
Surgery tomorrow, not feeling real creative right now. So posting might be light for the next cuppla, we shall see.
I like this song, when I was a kid I had this album. I liked the song back then as well, though I didn't really understand it.
I do now ...
In My Life(John Lennon and Paul McCartney¹)
There are places I'll rememberAll my life, though some have changedSome forever, not for betterSome have gone and some remainAll these places had their momentsWith lovers and friends, I still can recallSome are dead and some are livingIn my life, I've loved them allBut of all these friends and loversThere is no one compares with youAnd these memories lose their meaningWhen I think of love as something newThough I know I'll never lose affectionFor people and things that went beforeI know I'll often stop and think about themIn my life, I love you moreThough I know I'll never lose affectionFor people and things that went beforeI know I'll often stop and think about themIn my life, I love you moreIn my life, I love you more
Peace out, see you soon ...

This song has such special meaning for my cousin and myself m
ReplyDeleteIt's a good one.
DeleteGood luck on the surgery, prayers coming your way, Sarge.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nylon12!
DeleteGood luck Sarge!
ReplyDeleteThanks Paul!
DeletePrayers up for the surgery. Old loves, new dreams; some of the sweetest things.
ReplyDeleteThanks! It's such a lovely song.
DeleteThanks for not ordering us into the dinghy to tow the brig into the wind. Not sure I'd be up for that today... or ever. I'm praying for you as well, Sarge. Take care.
ReplyDeleteOne of the most memorable scenes I have from the movie Master And Commander. I had no idea up to that point it was a thing - I cannot imagine towing a sailing ship with a dinghy.
DeleteSTxAR - I recall the story of USS Constitution having all her boats out being towed when she was becalmed. It was intense as there was a British squadron trailing them, trying (via their own boats) desperately to get into range. Hard work indeed!
DeleteTB - When there is no wind and you need to move, human sweat gets the job done.
DeleteThis is probably fiction, but I remember as story like that. The Brits also had ship's boats out towing. There were more crew to man the boats, and they had bow chasers to fire when they got in range. The sailors on the Yankee ship not rowing were blazing a trail of destruction through the quarterdeck dragging a cannon aft to the windows of the Captain's quarters at the stern. A former Kentucky hunter was in charge of aiming, firing the cannon parallel with the calm sea with the ball skipping like a stone across the water (like when he used to hunt sitting ducks with his rifle). The first ship's boat sunk with a cannonball through it discouraged further towing pursuit...
DeleteSounds like a great sea story, true or not, I'm sure there were similar instances in history.
DeletePrayers up for a successful surgery Sarge. We will amuse ourselves and try not to set the place on fire while you are gone...
ReplyDeleteBeatles' music is a mix to me. In some ways I feel they often wrote things that perhaps they did not fully understand at the time, but came to have fuller meaning for many later (like myself). In My Life is a good example. Blackbird is one for me.
(Extra note: Best adaptation ever of Beatles Song: Come Together by Aerosmith from the move Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band.)
Thanks TB!
DeleteAs a young fellow, and a big Beatles fan, there were some of their songs I just didn't like. But one never admitted that to other Beatles fans!
Best of luck tomorrow with prayer multiplier.
DeleteBeatles (Abbey Road), CCR (Cosmos Factory), Grand Funk and Led Zeppelin (both their eponymous albums) were my teen favorites. Only had one album from each, but, literally, wore them out playing them on my, barely, stereo. Good times.
Thanks juvat!
DeleteLed Zeppelin was another go to band in my youth.
Such a great song!
ReplyDeletePrayers sent for a successful surgery and a swift recovery. 🙏 ❤️
Thanks Mary!

DeletePrayers and best wishes to you Sarge. And just before the operation, remember the line from the Lord's Prayer..."Thy will be done"...
ReplyDeleteMy constant refrain, His will, not mine.
DeleteI shall patently wait for your successful return from your surgery.
ReplyDeleteThanks Scott.
