A Day Late "Monday" Update

The big thing in our life now is executing the planned move to College Station to be closer to our Daughter and her Family,  No time frame set yet. As of yesterday, the long pole in the tent is now the sale of our property.  (There had been some medical issues that needed, and were, successfully treated.) We have had a bit of interest since last we spoke.  Speaking thereof, last week we talked about the Lady from that State out west that lowballed us significantly. Well, as we suspected, she wasn’t a player. We did, however get a second visit from one of the actual folk that had come by last week. The brought their ATV and inspected the fence line (apparently they plan to graze exotics) and did a walk through of our B&B’s.

They are down to two properties, ours and another.  The realtor said the husband really liked ours while the wife said she preferred the other.  We shall see what will be and who's the boss in the family.   Of course they haven't mentioned any amount of currency exchange yet, so...there's still that .

Haven't heard anything from the third couple one way or another. So, hope springs eternal.

Not much else going on down here.  Hotter than Hades lately. (Juvat, it's August...in Texas, it's always hotter than Hades this time of year! Yeah, I know Beans, just seems hotter than usual and the humidity is quite a bit higher than usual.). Our morning walks are now regularly followed by a cool (Ok very cool) shower.  But, it's nice to get out and about.

I have noticed one thing I hadn't realized up until Sarge went on vacation.  Publishing a blog post once a week on Monday is a helluva lot easier than writing one daily.  How the heck he comes up with a daily subject to write about seems like a miracle to me after this episode.  Well done, Sarge!

Now get back here soon and get back to work! Just kidding of course! Ok, not entirely kidding just somewhat kidding.

We did get a bit of problematic news regarding moving.  As you are aware, we have two paint horses that we adopted from the Animal Rescue folks.  Our plan was to convey them to the buyers of our property.  Both sets of potential buyers mentioned above seemed interested.  So, win/win right? The horses get to stay home, the buyers get a couple of horses included with the property, no extra cost.

Cabernet

Merlot.  They were both waiting to get fed.  Suffice it to say, they were less interested in photographs than in Grain and Hay

Not so fast, juvat.  In the fine print of the adoption paperwork is a caveat, that if we move we either move the horses with us or return them to the Shelter.  Gonna fight this one as best we can.  In a perfect world, we'd find a property in College Station big enough for them to roam with a barn.  We'd take them with us, but....that might not be realistic.  Leaving them with the new owners of our property (with their approval) would seem to be the right answer. It doesn't seem right, fair or logical for all concerned to take them away from their home.  But, Bureaucrats' gotta Bureaucrat.

That just sucks!

 Other than that Mrs Lincoln....

We shall endeavour to perserve!

Peace out y'all!

  1. I was never a stickler for rules so: 1. One doesn't need to blog every single day, right? 2. I used to think that people existed to check up and make sure that people are following the rules but do you really think the horse shelter people will track you down in College Station and mention that they'd like to talk about a couple of horses? Never mind. I can see them getting out of their truck right now to knock on your door. Good luck on the long pole. I am kinda of glad I won't be doing that again.

    1. HMS…
Taking them with us IS authorized by the Animal Rescue folks with the caveat that sufficient facilities are there. We’re getting to the point where caring for a large piece of land and two horses is getting difficult. So…leaving them here under the care of someone capable seems to be the better option. I don’t want to know what the animal rescue folks will do if we give them back.

  3. A couple of times I've done the "So and So tagged you in the 10 days of Scripture passages" thing. The easiest thing to do would be to look up the Reading for The Day and just copy and paste the readings from either Matins or the Liturgy. But I consider that a cop out. Those may or may not "touch my heart," to borrow a phrase from some of my protestant friends, and not be in the Spirit of the Game. So I search for passages that I recall as being especially meaningful to me, and have helped my through tough times. The first 5 or 6 days are pretty easy. Then it gets tough. I don't see how bloggers do it. Even the once a week bloggers.

Heck, I READ this blog every day, and think that I should comment on something, you know, to show that I was there and appreciate the effort. But I don't want to just be a string of "Thanks" or "Well Done!" Writing is something that has to be in your blood.

    1. Joe, I’m ok with scripture passages in comments.

However this jerkwad advertising “Single Mom BS” as was done again this morning, really pisses me off! I really hope there’s a special place in Hades for those jerks!

      But that’s just me…being charitable!

    2. Juvat, that 10 Days of Scripture thing is something that makes the rounds on FB every few years. It's an interesting challenge. Being raised RC, and now being Orthodox, I know the quotes, but be hanged if I know Book, Chapter, and Verse on them. Plus, for OT, having to look up the pre-Reformation versions of Scripture, several books went missing after the Reformation.

    3. Joe,
Hmmm, may have to look into that. Thanks

  4. If you wind up selling to someone who wants the horses, maybe go with them to the rescue and see if they'll do a quick takeback and adoption churn to them. After all, they should be familiar with the conditions and location where they would live.

Yeah that’s the plan. I’d love to take them with us, but tending the acreage needed and the schlepping of hay bales is getting harder and harder. So…

  5. Juvat, we have also started to enter the portion of the program with my parents' place that is similar to yours: the people that may actually be interested are starting to stop by. Hoping you have a quick sale (I would talk to the horse rescue folks; having worked at a different type of animal rescue at one time, their primary concern is always the animals. If your potential buyers are willing to take the same contract and conditions, it may be okay - and is certainly less stressful for the animals.

Those that post daily are a special kind of crazy.

    1. THBB,
Thanks for the Info, I'm going to look into the issue here in the next day or two to find out the actual conditions they require. We shall see what we shall see.

As to the last...Yes, well, Sarge...

    1. Rob,
Thanks, we certainly hope so, even moreso if both like it better than others. ;-)

  7. Having done the animal-ownership transferring thingy before, most contracts don't matter at all. Once the critter is in one's care, that's pretty much it.

What will they do to you? What can they do to you? And who really cares? If there's no real punishment, then just do it. What's the worst thing they can really do, not allow you to adopt horses ever again? Wait, that's what you're already talking about.

    Pshaw. Weeee. Fun... Yeah...

And it's heat. Whoooo.... Almost like there's a summer or something.

    1. Beans,
True all. Just would rather it all be above board. We don't get in trouble, neither do the buyers. The horses are fine. We are looking at a home in CStat that actually has a barn and horse paddock, so maybe...The kids will come with. Who knows.

    2. Unless said barn and paddock has a groom living there, you should shed yourself of the hayburners. All y'all, people and horses, are getting way long in the tooth.
