Back At Work

Well after nearly two weeks of being footloose and fancy-free, albeit one-eyed, it was back to work this Monday last. But only for a half a day, after all, there were visitors to greet, food to be consumed, stout to tipple, and stories to be told. Most of 'em no doubt true. Or approximating truth to some extent.

But Tuesday arrived far too early and it was time for my first FULL DAY back at my place of gainful employment. While work does provide funds for me to pursue my interests - such as eating, living in a warm and dry shelter, etc., etc. - and it is for many reasons interesting, it still is, ya know, work. I also like the folks I work with. So that's good too.

But...

Still and all, it's called work for a reason. Here are some synonyms and (naturally) some antonyms.

(Source)
No, no, no. "Antonym." Not "Antonov." Geez, you aviation types have one track minds...

Ah, who let the pharmacists in?

Hercules! Hercules! Hercules!

But I digress...

Synonyms and antonyms for work -
synonyms: labor, toil, slog, drudgery, exertion, effort, industry, service; informal grind, sweat, elbow grease; literary travail
"a day's work in the fields"
antonyms: leisure, rest
Yeah, the OPPOSITE of leisure or rest. I get that.

But hey, it pays the bills.

Shh!

The eye is much better, Wednesday I shall drive myself to work. Already did a short turn about the neighborhood, managed to stay in my lane, not go off-roading, and no animals, humans, or other life forms were run over and injured.

So, Katie bar the door, and Hi Ho, Hi Ho, The Missus Herself can hang up her chauffeur's uniform and sleep in, it's back to work I go, driving my own damn self.

Any reports you may hear of massive accidents and conflagrations upon the highways and byways of Little Rhody on Wednesday, the 17 of October, did not involve Your Humble Scribe.

I hope...

  1. Double, Double Toil and Trouble...... back to be a working stiff there Sarge. Ze planes, Ze planes...... well that's enough shameless line-stealing from me. Good luck easing yourself back into that work routine.

    1. Drove myself to work today, a big hurdle there. Now I'm off to drive myself crazy, a much shorter trip.

  2. Good to hear your availability period is over, and you are heading back to sea!

  3. OK, Very happy to hear things are getting back to normal with your life, AND, you're safe for solo, BUT, how is the vision? Is it back to normal?

    1. Vision isn't back to normal, that will take a while longer, but it improves everyday.

    2. Slow process I'm sure. Praying for a complete recovery.

  4. Liking your coworkers is.. like... winning the lottery every time you buy a ticket. I imaging the new would wear off, but you really have it good. I envy you that....

    1. We have an excellent team. I know I have it good and the Big Fella Upstairs gets thanked for that every day. Sometimes multiple times a day.

    2. I also am on an excellent team and that's going to be the hardest part of retiring. I feel a bit like I'm abandoning a wingman in the midst of a fight.

    3. And that right there is a tough thing to do.

  5. So the rumors of panic in New England are not really true?

  6. Stay to the right, drive slow and put your hazards on.

  7. I would say something rude and crude about yet another northerner driving badly and how you are now eligible to become a snowbird and come down to Florida, but you Rhode Islanders are sterner stuff, or something like that.

And now I can't make jokes about The Missus Herself "Driving Mr. Lazy(eye)" because you are self-mobile.

    So many missed opportunities...

Take it easy, play nice with the other children and make it home safe, m-kay?

    1. Heh, don't worry Beans, I'm sure you'll find something to make jokes about...

And on that last bit? I will, even though I don't always play nice with others.

  8. I could make some observations about drivers ...and may still do so, in my own blog (POCIR).
Happy to hear your vision is improved enough to take on the operation of, not so, heavy equipment.
Others seem to be fast and loose with that word, normal.

  9. Happy to read that your eye continues to improve; also what Mr. Cardwell wrote.

    Thanks for the post.

  10. You need to wear a proper black patch over the offending eye and begin slowly to talk like a (Hollywood) pirate. Call everyone, "matey" and start using nautical terms. Walls are now bulkheads and doors are now hatches. Windows are portholes and the heater is the Charley Noble. Change your screen name to OldBoatswain or something as meaningful. My point is that you can make the most of the (now healing) eye problem.

    1. Well, it got me two weeks out of work, my wife had to drive me everywhere, though she did tell me to sit in the front as "I am not your chaffeur!" and a host of other benefits. I wanted to do the eye patch but, as The Missus Herself pointed out, it's getting a tad cold to be sleeping in the shed.

I know which side of the bread my butter's on.

But yeah, I so wanted the patch and walk into a store saying "Arrrr" and "Shiver me timbers matey!"

      Would've been such good times.

    3. Looking back...

I should have. Should have taken my cutlass to work as well.

    4. The cutlass would have been a splendid touch.

  11. Glad you are progressing along nicely...normal? What is normal?!?!
Glad you also were able to get there and back again without mishap.
I join Dwight and Paul in praying things continue to progress in the correct direction :)

  12. 'Bout damn time you got back to work you freeloading slacker! haha. Glad to hear you're up and around. Maybe it was the healing properties of that beer you and Juvat shared.
