Headed Back East

Sigh...

All good things must come to an end. Vacation is done, reality beckons.

We're in the air today and it's back to work on Friday.

Got to see all the kids and all the grandkids.

It was a good craic.

Could not, for love nor money, get LUSH to post. She was too busy and my entreaties drew the evil eye from The Missus Herself. So I caved. I'm crazy, but I'm not that crazy.

  2. Good things come to those who wait. She'll get there, maybe not in my lifetime, but sometime...

Glad you had a good time with the grandkids. Those are the special times.

  3. What is the saying? Raise your kids and you can spoil your grandkids. Spoil your kids and you get to raise your grandkids. Seems you and the Misses Herself got it right.

  4. I seem to be falling into the too busy to post mode... or is it too lazy?
    Travel safe.

    1. Perhaps you're in a contemplative mood, too deep to share.

      Or something. 😁

  5. Just one question, what's a 'craic?'

Glad you had a good time with LUSH and her three kids. Oh, well, one of these days her life will slow enough to post. One of these days...

    1. Craic is a Gaelic word, with no exact English translation. The closest you can get is “fun." Entertaining, having a good time.

She is busy, busy, busy all the live long day. Without actually working on the railroad.

    2. Even California seems to have given up on the railroad... maybe... hopefully...

    3. California is an amazing place, some very nice people, ruled by idiots and the drooling progressives in L.A. and San Fran - but I repeat myself.

  6. You just need to get Lush to tell you some sea story and ghost write or draft it like you did for my first post.

    1. If I could get her to sit down for five minutes without falling asleep. Grandkids are perpetual motion machines.

    2. She has grandkids already? No wonder she's tired!

    3. I was referring to my grandkids, her kids. It's all about one's frame of reference.

  7. Hmm. I don't see any room in this schedule for the ride-along flights that I was gonna be on... I mean, I'll still be there on Saturday the 18, but might not get my flight after all.

(And probably the new Collings Foundation American Heritage museum on Sunday, since it's literally walking distance from my brother's place.)

    1. Aren't as many as there should be I suppose. I was living in the moment most days. No time for cameras.

  11. Be safe, Sarge, & may the embuggerances (hat tip to the late Sir Terry Pratchett for that word) of air travel miss you by miles.
Nice top pic--and from my second ship, the FID!

  12. Glad you had a good time, and keep the clock running on LUSH, the statute of limitations should run out on most of her "interesting experiences" soon.
Top photo- what is the phunny looking pod on the wing?

    1. Not Navy, but it might be a shot of a gunnery target on RTB. Most of the pod was tow cable, and the target was behind that on takeoff. Once in the area, the target was reeled out and shot at. It was either destroyed and the remaining wire cut or the wire cut and the target jettisoned, depending on the marksmenship of the aviators. I have had the. Isfortune to command both options in my day.

  13. Layover in SFO. Nearly four hours. Not as fun as it sounds.

And it doesn't sound fun at all.
