'Tis Done

First Dance
It was a long weekend which was far too short.

The venue was stunning, but paled in comparison to the bride.

Two families were joined, it was wonderful.

Surprisingly Big Time did not burn anything down.

Lord knows we tried.

More to follow.

The full Hunter's Moon lit the reception.
Some of the clan gathered around that campfire until only Big Time and Your Humble Scribe were left.
At the midnight hour we doused the fire, ending a magical day.
The next morning the moon was still up but slowly sinking in the mist.
As the moon set, the sun rose over the mist-shrouded Virginia countryside.
Time to return to reality.
It was one of the happiest times of my life.

I'm still overwhelmed by the event, I will provide details later this week.

  2. I'm glad you had a good time. "A man that finds a WIFE finds a good thing". I trust they will be good for each other...

Down in my stomping grounds, the harvest comes a bit later. We used to call that a Comanche moon. They would raid up in those parts (riding palomino ponies if they could find them). The palomino is nearly invisible on nights like that. We had a golden palomino mare (Honey Tamet, she had papers!!), and she was really tough to see at night. Even the Indians knew about stealth technology...

I used to click off my headlights on the way home on nights like that. Driving out the county for a few hundred yards, before my fear of running down some kid walking on the dirt road made me click 'em on again... Listening to Highway Song on the old scratchy am radio.... Feeling the cool night air, then the sound of the water well engine, the smell of the natural gas exhaust, feel the warmth of the air, then back to cool air rolling through the windows, as the open exhaust note fades in the distance.....

That is so far back in the past, it only exists in my head now.....

  3. The full moon was stunning the other night as it rose, eliciting a kind of "omg" when seen unexpectedly. It was about twice normal size until it climbed high enough to stop being magnified by our atmosphere. Even last night, actually early this morning, the moonlight was so bright it looked like a very cloudy day, but with shadows. Just beautiful.

Congrats again on the wedding. Glad things went well and that a good time was had by all.

    2. VX, it varies by region, but I'm sure SIL can wear whatever he wants at his wedding!

    3. Yeah, we talked about that, bottom line - "It's your wedding, wear whatever my daughter wants."

So he did. Good man right there.

  6. Beautiful full moon here, too. Something about it seemed extra special for some reason. Didn't know why at the time, extra special was good enough. But now I know.

    Congratulations all around.

    1. Thanks Dave!

Two homes, one in the DC area, one in the Annapolis area, not sure if they'll keep both (both are very nice). The Nuke works in DC. SIL2 is set to retire from the Navy early next year, he already has a couple of jobs he's looking at in the DC area.

  10. Lack of communications skills means you are very tired which means either you were angry, turned into some sort of sarge/werewolf hybrid and went on a rampage (it's October, after all) or it was a most excellent time. Analysis of your cryptic short blurbs above point to a good time.

Glad you and yours are enriched by one more SIL, and hopefully his clan is compatible with yours.

We didn't set too many fires, broke too much stuff and the cops were only called once over some weird guy flying his watch around. Sorry about the shrubbery...

  11. So... what I was gonna tell ya to do is collect loose change, if you can find any, and then arrange to remove the hubcaps [do they still have those?] and put the change into the hubcaps of the escape vehicle.
It's really pretty harmless, but can create some concern on the part of the bridal party.

Yeah, congratulations and best wishes to all concerned.

    1. Thanks Skip!

There was no departure by the bride and groom from the venue, they were the first in and the last out.

No rice throwing, none of that old timey stuff. I was good with that.

  12. The wedding couple and the venue both looked wonderful.

Just for the record, our wedding photographer wasn't Mathew Brady.

    Best wishes for all.

  14. I like the image that you put in my mind about you and Big Time sitting around the fire until the wee hours. I'm happy for you and your now larger family. Looking forward to reading more. Speaking of fires, you'll notice that we didn't burn the place down while you were gone!

  15. What lovely pictures!!

Glad a good time was had by all!!

And, yes, the liquor cabinet was opened...but there were lots of toasts drunk to the health and happiness of the wedded couple...so it was for a good cause...just saying...

    Get some rest sir!!

  16. Wonderful. The first picture reminded me of my older sister's wedding long ago when she was USAF marrying another USAF and reception held at Selfridge ANGB in front of our house with pavilions and such. So, dad, the question is, did anybody sing 'Danny Boy' after things had got going or was this a gloriously informal affair? May they both live long and prosper.
