I had another post all written and queued up for publication. Then I went to eat. When finished with my repast, it struck me that I didn't like that post. Not even a little.
So I deleted it, lock, stock, and barrel. No looking back. Two political rants in a row is way too many. I could barely stomach one. (FWIW, that's a first for me, never did that before.)
Anyhoo ...
Went looking for a graphic with a dustbin (trash can for the Yanks) and found the above. Loved the inscription on the can:
Für mich zählen nur innere Werte
Literally, "For me only inner values count."
Wisdom on a trash can, who da thunk it?
But it's true, it's what's inside you that counts. What your heart says.
The D's have neither heart nor soul.
May they be discarded come November.
And thus endeth the lesson.
I was attacked by a pet spider monkey years ago. The strength amazed me, and it's tenacious effort to not be controlled was a daunting task to overcome. That's how the Democratic Party will be. There will be bites, scratches, and some effort, but they will eventually be taken out of control.

DeleteInteresting saying. What the Big Ds profess, but then make everything except inner values important. At least the pachyderms (HEY! got the spelling right the first time!) make a token effort at making the externals irrelevant. Unfortunately their "leadership" has all the spine of linguini boiled for an hour. When there are tough choices to be made they cave to the Big Ds to try to avoid being labeled racist, homophobe, xenophobe, etc. Doesn't work because the Big Ds control most media outlets. E.g. I can't go to the Tube of You without seeing The Kackler or an anti-2nd Amendment commercial. Television - Food Network pushes anti-gun ads and the LGBTQMOUSE agenda. Sporting events now feature all sorts of left-wing messages on fields, equipment, commentary, and the entertainment.

DeleteFeeling polite and kind today. Viruses mutate, more often than not, to less dangerous (see annual flu for example). Maybe Darwin's idea that adaption that keep the viruses host alive longer is a good thing?

ReplyDeleteSince then the more Conservative members are now considered Socialist-Progressives, the greater majority of the rest fall into the Anarchist camp, and a small remainder are "Islamic Destroy The Great Satan" gang led by a bartender.
You did bring it up, but I was brought up with, "For me only my inner values count." and they were instilled in me by the only means that my Grandfather's generation knew would always work.
Corporations have been heavily into teaching ethics for a number of years now. Every time some executive does something evil and/or stupid, the corporate lawyers demand more ethic classes. It's to cover the corporation's butt, not actually make people ethical.

DeleteSarge, you did something similar to what I did: typed something, relooked at it (in my case re-relooked at it), and decided not to go with it based on tone. On a similar subject.
ReplyDeletePerhaps surprisingly (to me, anyway), the election has become about values - not the values that both parties profess, but the values that they actually practice. As with your lovely trashcan picture, it is the inner values the matter, not what people say they are about.
I heard a great podcast about a book called The Pursuit of Happiness: How Classical Writers on Virtue Inspired The Lives of The Founders and Defined America by Jeffrey Rosen. It is a review of the habits of the Founders in terms of what they read and how they pursued virtue (Art of Manliness Podcast, Episode 1003). It has quite re-inspired me to start making time again in the morning to read contemplative works for the purpose of thinking, reflecting, and becoming a better person.
I cannot fix everything else. But I can become what I wish others would be like.
Hopefully the American voter learns that lesson before it's too late.

DeleteI'm a believer in the Uniparty, no matter who is in control (Repub or Dems) the big bucks go to the same pockets. Trump is not part of the Uniparty and that loss of control is reason for we've seen the last few years.
ReplyDeleteTake a look at what was reversed the first couple of weeks after Trump was replaced & you'll see what is important to the cabal that actually runs things.

The Uniparty is definitely real. It's no longer about representing the people, it's about gaining more power for the new "elite."

ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Tony Hillerman's autobiography. He's the guy who wrote novels set in the southwest, mainly on Navajo reservations with tribal cop Jim Chee, and "legendary detective Jim Leephorn" among others. Great stories, with a lot of insights into the ways of the early Americans.
Anyway, Hillerman was a mortar man in Europe in WW2, and got badly wounded and then while being carried out on a stretcher they stepped on some mines for further excitement and injuries. He spent many months in hospitals with among other things, badly busted up feet, ankles, and serious eye damage. Newly developed penicillin was able to save vision in one eye, but only partially in the other.
Hillerman had grown up in dust bowl Oklahoma, in real poverty in the depression, and had no desire to resume failing family farming lifestyle.
So, he became a writer, based on the unlikely combination of having written several letters home, which his sister shared with a newspaper lady, who recognized the name from flowery form letters from public affairs flacks who sent hometown press releases when Hillerman was awarded a Bronze Star, and later a Silver Star. (The latter was presented by BGEN "Nuts!" MacAuliffe just after Hillerman had come back to his unit from an earlier hospital stay, without being released, so he was actually AWOL when receiving his SS.) The newspaper lady was impressed by the language of the citations for the awards, and his letters, so after he finally returned home at the end of the war, she suggested he pursue writing as a viable job option for a guy with a bad eye and bum leg.
Anyway, that made me think of someone else.
And, that someone was not Sam Clemens (Mark Twain to most folks) who reportedly quipped that on his journey to the western mining fields "I tried to find honest work, but ended up writing for the newspaper."
Reminds me one one more saying "Those who don't read the news are uninformed, and those who do are misinformed."
Maybe that's why we like to visit here, to avoid the news, but enjoy good writing.

I was all in a rage when I wrote the first piece. After scheduling it, I calmed way down (leftover pizza has a wondrous effect on my morale) and decided, nah, the folks at the Chant don't need that kind of negativity.

Living in the Seattle area for 18 years, I was a Democrat Committeeman until I relocated to Colorado. Registered again as a Democrat until after the Lightbringer was elected and announced Eric Holder would be his Attorney General. That was it. Registered as an Independent. Back in the day my go to line was, "The Republicans are greatly concerned about how the pie will be divided. We Democrats are more concerned there will be a pie". Today we have the UniParty. Pie? We don't care!

ReplyDeleteThe first glimmer of the Deep State problem for most folks came with Gen. Eisenhower's farewell speech. Military Industrial CONGRESSIONAL complex unmasked. Next ray of hope was in 1964, Gen. Goldwater. My father, as an example, decided he'd had enough of the corrupt LBJ party in Solid D Louisiana, so he worked on the Goldwater campaign. He thought Goldwater had the right "inner Values" to beat back both the commies and the corruptocrats. First Republican to take Louisiana since "Reconstruction". That would have been a "Trump Moment" in 1964, had he won. But, we had to wait longer. The Deep State did not want such as Goldwater peeking under rugs and behind curtains for roaches.
Next, President Reagan. 8 years of slowing the pace, but still the DC roaches and their propaganda wing in the alphabet networks pulled the other direction. The momentum snapped back until Trump. Shock and horror in The Swamp. Rushed plans brought to action. Roaches scurrying to avoid the light, then mounting counterattacks.
And that is where we are today. The ship could have been turned with some effort in 1964, but was not, or with even more effort in 1980, but was only partially turned. Today, the effort required to turn is much greater. We'll see if recent events have helped the turning.
We shall see.

ReplyDeleteWe are of an age that we need to be getting our eyes checked twice a year. Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration are now early, easy, and cheap to detect. Do it every six months. Treatments to halt or slow vision loss work best if started EARLY. If you eye doctor is avoiding testing folk because of a fear of COVID or some other problem ... get a better eye doctor. Every six months. Side effect of COVID: University stopped doing screenings, said I didn't need them. Wrong. I will save some of my vision, it seems.
I'll second that! See your eye doctor, get tested for glaucoma!
DeleteAmen- Back in the olde days, they would actually gently touch the surface of your eyeball with something as you looked straight ahead, after dilating your eyes. Not entirely painless, but nothing frightful.
DeleteThen they got more sophisticated and instead of "touching" they just used a puff of air. Painless.
Within the last 2-3 years (maybe longer) they quit using the puff test, and instead you look into a different machine and is basically does an ultrasound of the eyeball. No dilation (and being worthless the rest of the day until you recovered from that). Totally painless and very accurate.
If you eye doc is not using this, see about finding a different doc, or at least ask when they are going to catch up with modern medical practices.
Eyeballs are good, so take care of them.

DeleteMy doc uses the puff and I guess it's an ultrasound thing, I call it "the blue ring." No dilation, which is good. But due to retinal damage in my right eye, I get the eyeballs dilated every other visit. Better safe than sorry!
