Just a short one this week. Still a lot of basket balls up in the air 'round here. I'm pretty sure even Meadowlark Lemon would have difficulty keeping them airborne. As you read this, Mrs J and I are driving Little J, LJW and Miss B to the airport in San Antonio. With a little luck, Hurricane Beryl will be East of San Antonio, so we won't be fighting that.
Given our luck, however....
But...It sure was nice to have Little J and family rejoined and in our AOR for a while. Just very nice to have Family together.

Looking forward to having an excuse to visit London. One of the places I've not had a chance to explore very thoroughly. Mostly just passing through the airport.
Given that their "stuff" won't arrive for a couple of months, they have several bags that are going along with them. Which means that we'll be taking two cars to the airport. One with the three of them and Mrs J and one with me and the luggage. Should be highly entertaining. Especially if Beryl doesn't head east and draws a bead on San Antonio.
We shall see what we shall see.
On the other front that's occupying a lot of my thoughts, Mrs J has several appointments this week with various doctors who will be assisting in her operation. The operation itself will be on the 24th. Prayers are deeply appreciated.

This was taken by our garage camera yesterday. I believe that color is called "Green" and I don't think we've seen it in July in the 26 years we've lived out here. Kinda pretty isn't it. Just went out and checked the rain gauge. Had a bit of a heavy thunderstorm after dinner last night. Added another inch to the field. I think that makes it about 15" for the year so far. Usually, we're happy if we get 7 or 8 in the entire year. So, again, Thank You, Lord.
While we've been busy, there's not been a lot of "stuff" being completed. With a little bit of luck, that'll change shortly.
But, I will miss her. They'll be leaving at about 1000 AM this morning.
This one is a little late for Independence Day, but it gives me a bit of a chill, and a lot of pride. Talk about "Balls the size of these."

UPDATE: 11:30 CDT: Mission successful! Little J and Crew safely dropped off at San Antonio Intl Airport. Beryl was off to the East and not a factor. 15 Bags offloaded, Bag Handler was initially concerned but a sufficient amount of paper was exchanged and quieted his woes. Will miss them, Miss B especially, but the planning of a trans-Atlantic trip has begun.
21.5 inches precipitation for the year and 5.5 inches above average in this neck of the woods. Mis B is getting big eh? Time sure does fly. Oh, and prayers for Mrs. J are in the rotation juvat.......... :)

Yeah, Miss B is getting bigger, but still pretty small. That having been said, she's very smart for her age. If you say a sentence, she will repeat it immediately, then you'll hear it again later on and it's appropriate for the conversation going on around her. I'm going to miss them all, but, maybe, just maybe, her a little more.

I really like that photo of you and Miss B. You're in your element there with a kid in your arms. Regarding Mrs. J, you know I'm still on it. You're there too due to your recent scare. How's that shaping up? Maybe Beryl will give you some outer-bands and keep that green into the next month.

DeleteAs mentioned above, yeah, it's my new Most Favorite. She's a pretty special young lady and I'm sure she's going to do great things.
As to me, the Cardiologist changed my meds a couple of weeks ago. AFib seems to be more under control, BP and Pulse Rate are way down in the normal range and O2 levels are normal. So, so far, so good!
Stock pond is still dry, so more rain is still acceptable. Course that's true about 99% of the time.

DeleteI remember those colors from visiting my Granddad in Marin County in the 60's. They don't seem to have changed much. As to the State Birds. Glad there are folks that fly them. Not sure I would want to do that, regardless of the pay. And I used to be fearless.

I think at least one Sikorski S-70, and one UH-1 variant. Side note, Calfire made some mods to the UH-1 that improved performance, enough so that the military had adopted them.

Juvat, I didn't see anything disparaging about what you said about those maniacs. I don't know which are the craziest - the "pathfinders in the OV-10As who go in low and fast to mark the path for the adrenalin junkies in the S-2s, C-130s, DC-10s, or the 747 Supertanker. OK, the S-2s maybe not so much, but taking a DC-10 or that 747 over the crest of a hill, dropping down to ~300 feet in the smoke an roiling air of a fire in the foothills borders on clinically insane.
DeleteYep, I can imagine that flying a 747 about 300' AGL in smoke and with hot spots causing the air to rise taking with it the aircraft, further compounded by dropping the fire retardant and shifting the center of gravity and further complicating the problem. Takes quite a bit of fortitude and skill. Glad we have folks like them
