Idling in the Gray

OAFS Photo
On the bright side, the temperature is above freezing. As you can see from the picture above, nothing else is very bright at all. It's a gray day here in the Northeast but that's okay. It's winter, I'm not freezing my butt off and I have all the time in the world to do whatever.

So I've got that going for me.

While dallying in Maryland over the holidays I received a text message from my buddy Tom, he of the monthly breakfast gathering. He was wondering if I'd like to go to a concert not far from Chez Sarge. The musician was Ally the Piper and would I be interested?

Why yes, yes I would. I don't think he knew I was already a fan of hers. Bagpipes with a modern twist, she can do the classics as well.

That's happening in February and I'm looking forward to it.

Now, back to sleep ...

Just kidding, I've got some things that need doing, so I'm going to go do them.

See you on the morrow!

  1. Glad you made it back safe and sound! Speaking of sound, I think I’m gonna seek out more of Miss Ally’s music to listen to. Thanks for the vector!

    1. She's good, she's toured with Mia Asano (electric violin) and the two together are really good. Here's one of my favorites: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eDeKMO8bmAc (Shipping Up to Boston).

  2. I've seen her and her bagpipes on video, she's great and until then I was unaware of what someone could do with bagpipes!

  3. Got a later start this morn and that vid helped clear out the sleep-webs Sarge. Seconding juvat, will search the InterNets for more of her efforts.

  5. Low 60s here. 40s overnight. Lots of Sun , which is a nice break from the rain.

    Kind of funny:
    Extreme Cold Watch
Issued: 8:58 AM Jan. 7, 2026 – National Weather Service
...EXTREME COLD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT
    THROUGH FRIDAY MORNING...

    * WHAT...Very cold conditions with temperatures in the low to mid 30s
possible except for Interior Monterey and San Benito Counties where
temperatures in the upper 20s are possible.

    * WHERE...The East Bay and San Francisco Bay Shoreline, The Central
Coast, The Santa Clara Valley and Eastern Hills, The Salinas and
Carmel Valleys and Hollister Area, The Marin Hills, The Santa Cruz
Mountains, and North Bay Interior Valleys.

    * WHEN...From late Thursday night through Friday.

I guess we have a different standard of "extreme cold." Especially since upper 20s, low 30s is pretty normal here for this time of year.

    1. News/weather organizations trying to suck you in. It's why they name winter storms now. Ridiculous.
