  1. I love that boar's head formation. It would cut through a crowd of leftist looters like a hot knife through butter.

  2. On behalf of every man, and woman, who has earned the right to wear the Eagle, Globe and Anchor, thank you for your good wishes. Being a Marine is more than just wearing the uniform, it is also a state of mind. People you meet will say, "I was in the Navy" or "I was in the Air Force." But, we few,we band of brothers, will tell you "I am a Marine." Semper Fidelis.

  3. Now would be a perfect time to watch "Stars and Stripes Forever" or toss on that cd or mp3 collection of Sousa's greatest hits.

One of the greatest regret in life was the Marine Recruiter not even considering me.

Happy Service Birthday, Grandpa Cone, Great Grandpa Cone, Great great Grandpa Cone.

  5. Absolutely! Let's hear it for the Corps de Ballet. They are lovely!
    Way better picture,
    sans Marines.
    Happy Birthday USMC.

  6. Something occurred to me; all the services, except the USAF, pre-date the United States. Kind of funny thinking that the services are older than the nation which they protect.

    1. Wow. I never thought of that, but you're absolutely right.

      Cool.

    2. Well, as the USCG might be presumed to have flowered from the Revenue Service, the Air Force might also claim to have flowered from the USAAC and that means, the AUS and that means, they been around much longer. I can no longer recall the details of the RAF, USAAC, Lafayette Esquadrille but, those were the glory days and they long predated but they were the soul of the Air Force long before Mitchell and Rickenbacker. It was Douhet and his ilk spoiled the concept for a generation.

    3. The history of the Air Force begins in 1909 (August 1) with the creation of the Aeronautical Division of the Signal Corps. Which became the Aviation Section in 1914. The Army did use observation balloons in the Civil War, but I guess that doesn't count.

Makes sense that the Air Force would not predate the United States as the aircraft didn't either, it wasn't invented until the 20th Century.

Douhet, the Godfather of the bomber Mafia. No, I'm not a fan.

  7. I remember when I first moved to Philly I went looking for the Tun Tavern, the "birthplace" of the Marine Corps. Spoiler alert, folks, it doesn't exist anymore....

When active recruitment of Marines began, two young men entered the tavern and signed up. They were given a small bonus and a tankard of ale each and retired to a table in the back. They were joined shortly by two other young men, each of whom had two tankards of ale. "How did you get two tankards of ale?" one asked. "We enlisted in the Marine Corps!"

The first two men looked at each other and one said, "It wasn't like that in the Old Corps...."

    1. More Old Breed---

For those interested, here is a Class III time waster source of stories. Major Dick Culver is now deceased, and his site was later hacked. Thankfully it now back up and running. Click on the "tales" in the top menu.
