Long day.
Brain fried.
Alive. Is good.
Nobody home inside my head.
If you want a fun time, find the anime "Girls und Panzers" which is about high school girls competing in tank warfare. Tanks only designed before end of 1945 are allowed, though they can be upgraded if the school has the resources. Funny, brilliantly written, the action (though highly improbable if not downright wrong) is good and the technical details of the various tanks and spgs are spot on. Most of the schools are based on nationalities, with the Italians running Italian tanks, the Germans running German tanks, French running, duh, French tanks etc. Except our heroines who run various vehicles from various nationalities, including a friggin Mark V from WWII.
Other than that, weekend. Whew.
I don't know how, with so little to do each week I still get behind in work.
I kind of do, as my allergies have been rather horrid this year, which between the metabolic load of allergens and the metabolic load of allergy meds, leaves me wandering around like some zombie or House Member...
haha, one of my faves...
ReplyDeletethe way the girls roasted the Porsche Tiger was absolutely hilarious...

I like that the writers and animators get the bad points of all the tanks correct, unless they need to not get them for the story.
DeleteThe girls of the Anzio Academy, so Italian. Poor tanks, excellent tactics, ability to get drunk and make good food. Hilarious.
Well now....this is......ummm.....yeah.......uhh.......it's.......ummm..........Wo sind die Worte?
ReplyDeleteIt's an enjoyable level of stupidity. In one of the early episodes, one of the girls has a problem waking up. So her teammates roll up to her house in a Panzer IV. And the neighbors don't really react. Stupid fun. And definitely not woke at all.
DeleteI've seen these before. I have to be a certain level of drunk to appreciate it. Not the "Girls Und Panzer" series itself, but that style of cartoon in general, and the voices. Except for the music, not my cuppa.
ReplyDeleteI admit, hearing the squeeky voices in Japanese or Korean is annoying, but there are excellent dubs in English out there. Or do what I do and put on subtitles and keep the sound off. It's like reading a book while watching tv.
DeleteI've just never developed a real appreciation for the drawing style. The voices my tinnitus almost drowns out.
DeleteThank goodness we live at peak Western civilization where these sorts of things exist.
ReplyDeleteTotally. There's also an anime that deals with Ship Schools, wherein said schools use WWII era ships to, well, fight. I've seen some of one episode and like GuP the technical aspects of the ships are correct. The girls do everything correctly (if you mentally substitute healthy male soldiers for the girls.)
DeleteThere's an anime called "Sasake and Peeps" where a grand wizard from another alternate earth-like planet dies and is reincarnated as a small bird. The main character is a 40yo sales rep. They encounter... magic and dragons and such on the alternate planet and people with psionic powers and 'magic girls' on this planet. Funny and strange, and the disclaimers that are on the screen when said small bird eats meat adds just the touch of whimsy. "Do not feed Java sparrows meat unless they are the reincarnation of a star mage." Smartasses...
Anime, especially Japanese Anime, is the new frontier in entertainment. They can make a series out of literally anything.
DeleteI guess Sarge is unable to fight his way off the beach, or still captivated by the Lilliputians.
ReplyDeleteWhatever, he certainly deserves a vacation and has earned the right to plan, change and execute whatever schedule he chooses. It's the retired way of life.
He might be amazed to find he is now home to anime tankers, but change is difficult when people get older.
Thanks, Beans for another "different" post. Do you have any local opinions about the University of Florida's narrow escape from reverting to wokeism when the state rejected the selection of some Commie the academics wanted? It was a pretty good school when I went there half a century ago.
JB
Not long after you left the godless communists took over and the school has been in recovery since. I went to one 'cultural' affair where there was discussion and I basically got into a verbal throwdown with a tenured professor who, about every 4th sentence, told everyone he was a card-carrying communist (pinko swine.)
DeleteDeSantis whacking the board of regents a few years ago and installing non-leftists in positions of power was a wonderful thing. I have been enjoying watching the slow crawl-back from leftist stupidity that seems to be happening.
Remember when "Don't Tase Me, Bro" occurred? That was a leftist who was protesting John "Lurch" Kerry at UofF. Protesting that Kerry was too right-wing.
As I said, been enjoying watching the continued fallout of DeathSantis' actions.
As to OAFS, well, he was probably shocked when they put wheels on the Trojan horse...
There was an old comic book series "Bunnies at War" featuring definitely mammalian and provocatively (but modestly) dressed female rabbits in Allied uniforms doing heroic deeds that was published and distributed to US troops in WW2. Printed on cheap paper and passed from hand to hand, they apparently vanished. I have run across nothing but a few covers.
