Well, Campers, it's been quite a week, both personally and nationally.
On the national front, I don't have much to say. Frankly, I'd like to solve problems between nations on a diplomatic front. And, I suppose most current and former military personnel, especially those in combat organizations, would prefer the same option be taken.
But, when diplomacy hasn't worked for, what? 40 some odd years? And the same fecal matter is still being flung at us, it's about time, IMHO, to up the costs. Looks like the Israelis have been doing an outstanding job taking out some targets. It also seems that the promises of the B-2 capabilities were true.

I know, I know, but I just liked the picture for some reason! ;-) | Source |
Well done, lads.
As for comments yesterday about comeback from Iran, I ask, with what? It seems the only weapon they have now is "refugees" in the US. That's definitely a concern, but what logistics chain is going to keep them supplied/paid/armed? I also suspect many of them will turn in their weapons and ask for asylum. The government of Iran is virtually dead. Who's going to support them? Again, IMHO.
Anyhow, we'll see what we will see. There was an interesting article yesterday that said people should legally arm themselves if possible. Just in case you ran into the wrong someone/something, well… better safe than sorry.
Ok, on with the show. Been a very long week and while I tried to help out with postings, frankly I was one, very busy getting the house ready to sell as well as move, resulting in... two, I was very, very tired. I had one post that didn't make it to life. I had it in the ready rack and when I went to edit, refine and publish it, it had disappeared. Entirely, possible I hit a button marked delete thinking that was the original Roman word for publish.
Who knows?
But, Beans and Tuna did a great job keeping the blog up and running. Good on ya' Mates!
Mrs J. did a fantastic job figuring out and prioritizing the things that needed to be done. The Listing goes live today, and we've already got somebody that might be interested.
Breakfast! Cab is in front, Merlot is behind her |
As many of you may know, we have two horses (Cabernet and Merlot). I had gone to my hay supplier and while paying up, he'd asked me if our property was up for sale yet. (We had previously talked about our moving.)
I told him it was going up shortly, he asked for all the particulars, which I gave him along with the realtor's info. Seems the lady involved lives in the Dominion in San Antonio (a very pricey/ritzi area) and her daughter raises and trains horses. The lady was getting on in age and was looking for a place to relax and get away from the hustle and bustle while also helping her daughter do her stuff.
So....Maybe. We'll see.
On the other side of this transition, we went over to College Station last weekend. We wanted another look at the house we were interested in. It had been on the market for a very (very, very) long time and we had spent a lot of time looking at pictures of it and asking the realtor questions about things we observed in the photos. Things were not going in the right directions. Unfortunately, our realtor's father was admitted to the ER with AFIB the day we got there, and, she was unavailable. We swung by the house anyhow and saw this.
I find it hard to believe we missed this on our previous visits, so maybe something new? |
Hadn't seen that before. and that was the final straw. Texted the agent that picture and she agreed, I don't know if that damage was new, but I doubt we'd have overlooked it.
Anyhow, the realtor’s father was doing better after his ER visit, so she set up an appointment with us for another house she thought we might like for the next day. We drove by just to get a quick look.

Pretty nice!
The next day we visited the house and had a walk through. Very nice, and, even nicer, in our price range. The only down thumb was no fence for the dogs. Easy enough to fix.

The green trees are along the hill above the Brazo's River. Yes the house is outside the flood plain. | Realtor.com |
Could be the one! We'll see. So, potential buyer and potential seller. Somebody just MAY be looking out for us. As I said, we'll see! But, we’ve got 4 more identified as possible, so…we got that going for us!
Oh, and Happy Birthday to my Brother should he happen to read this! :-)
Peace out, y'all!
Your first link juvat, I ALWAYS carry... curtesy of a carry permit. Good luck on the homestead sale.......five possible choices for a new home eh? Avoiding a flood plain is a good thing......:)
ReplyDeleteNylon,
DeleteGood to know.
We're happy about the developments and hope they come to fruition. Absolutely agreed on the last.

Emperor Newsom was blathering on about "No credible threat to California because of Trump's illegal, unconstitutional, unprovoked attack on the peace loving peasants and workers of Iran. But be alert, if you see something, say something. "
ReplyDeleteYeah, right. Then the thought police investigate you for hate crimes, thought crimes, xenophobia, racism, xenophobia, and halitosis."
Good that you noticed those doors. Better that you may have a buyer. Best that you may have found something better.
Joe,
DeleteAgreed on your first two para's. Wish it weren't so, I was born there and still have relatives there. Wish I could talk them into leaving, but they're getting on in years and have lived there all their lives, so...
Agreed on the last.
Thanks
juvat
Did somebody try to break in your house through the garage doors?
ReplyDeleteLooks like what I saw a few years ago at a robbery site.
Michael,
DeleteThat's not our house, It's one we thought we were interested in buying in College Station. We've since lost interest in that one. For a lot of reasons.
juvat
Juvat - That damage does indeed seem hard to have overlooked.
ReplyDeleteIt is good that you went back. We have tentatively - very tentatively - starting looking for houses here in New Home 3.0. Amazing what careful photo angles can do.
How nice would it be to be near a river (and above the flood plain, of course)?
THBB,
DeleteYeah, we're going back there in a couple of days, Got 4 more possibles we want to take a look at. We'll see what we will see.
juvat.
Regarding the strikes, I am not surprised, but disgusted by all the dems claiming it was unconstitutional and that he had to get permission from Congress. Last time I checked commander-in-chief and the executive branch were in charge for military action, not the legislative branch.
ReplyDeleteI thought you had posted something briefly last Monday, but when I posted on Tuesday it was gone. Hopefully I didn't accidentally delete it as I was working with blogger. That new home looks beautiful. Good luck with the transactions.
Tuna,
DeleteI don't know what happened, but I am glad you had noticed it. I thought I'd just dreamed I'd written an article. Getting old doncha know?

I had an now ex-husband who was a professional photographer who worked for a year or so for one of the local real estate folks. Once a week he would go around and take pictures of the homes. Always went during the day as sunlight can be helpful, but always turned on ALL the lights in a room to help with lightening. Went along to help a few times as we were in the process of looking for a new house ourselves. I would see the home, then I would see the pics he sent off to the real estate folks...there were several times when based on the photos, I would have bought a place that based on what we saw when physically there, I never would have looked at twice.
ReplyDeleteSo when I was looking to by my current house, and Covid had everything locked down in NYS, I told my real estate agent no way was I going to make an offer on a home unless I could walk inside, look with my eyes, and smell with my own nose. I didn't care that there were lots of folks buying based on a Zoom tour...not me!
Re the strikes: I totally agree with your assessment stated yesterday. It has been a very long 40+ years. My fear is that over the past 40+ years, there is at least one, possibly two generations, that have grown up in Iran being propagandized into a radical mindset. Not sure it will change any thought processes over there, or over here for that matter. But solid round of applause for the skill demo'ed by the AF pilots.
Suz
Suz,
DeleteThat's an excellent point in your last paragraph. Never having known freedom (even the limited one of the Shah) might be hard to convince people there is another way. Especially with secret police listening to conversations. That would put a severe damper on passing down history.
Yep, our photographer did the same. Hope the pictures turned out ok.

note re lime-green garage doors
ReplyDeletewho would keep horses locked in a car garage
Boron,
DeleteThat sure is what it looked like didn't it, something or someone in the garage. Regardless, not on our list of possibles any more.

my dad was part of the team that developed the B29 . i am aware of how hard it was to develop the B-2 Heavy bomber. it is amazing that they could carry those bombs that distance.
ReplyDeleteSteven,
DeleteI'm sure a bit of refueling was involved...a BIG bit! But...Given the amount of open ocean between home and there, there probably wasn't much risk of interference anyway.
juvat
i read an article about the B-2 that offered an insight into said long-range bomber missions. They carry 2 complete crews. There's bunks in the cabin, along with a bathroom and a mini-kitchen. Supposedly it's not cold box lunches anymore.
DeleteSaw another youtube short that took till the last seconds to explain the hook of the short which was why the B2 is observable when refueling. My thought when I saw the title was, duh, the fat refueling aircraft. And, yep, the B2 isn't 'seen' on radar, but the bloated whale of a refueler is darned easy to spot.
Still, 37 hours in a plane. 37 hours. Ain't no amount of 'crew rest' that wouldn't make that a tedious, boring and tense flight. At least submariners can get up and walk around.
Yep, wouldn't want to do that. 10-12 hours in an airliner is pain enough for me.
Deletejuvat
The caption on the horse photo got me thinking for a second... but I have that sort of sense of humor. Make sure you're allowed to put up a fence before you give them any money...
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
Rob,
DeleteBreakfast was in the sacs hanging from the gates to their stall. I had just fed them and was headed into the house to write the blog. I've learned not to get behind them when they're eating. They can kick pretty hard.
Yeah, we checked the listing record for HOA requirements on each. Most allow some type of fencing (all versions acceptable to us) and we weren't really interested in the ones that didn't allow them. But thanks for the advice.
juvat
Great progress on all fronts!

Thanks JB,

I hope you have found the new Schloss Juvat!
ReplyDeleteStB,
DeleteStill a bit of a distance from here to moved in, but....Progress

Real Estate never easy deciding what people are hiding. Worked for a real estate attorney then selling and finally settling on the mortgage business. I can't believe where that led to but make sure you don't have an HOA that will prohibit the number of dogs along with the fence. You've not said what your plans for the horses but if coming with HOA again, city may not allow. Get as many inspection as possible. And age of every oven, stove, fridge, AC, and anything they have installed that have warranties. How old is the roof, any add on's, who built the lovey porch outside. Summer project or builder built?. Do the garage doors operate properly? When selling I had one seller take every single curtain rod, standing sink in bath's with the fridge, stove and last the took all the cabinet's off the walls along with the sink and base cabinet's. Imagine the buyer's shock opening that door. State police stopped them 2 states over and turned them around. Almost ended in court but finally brought it all back and had to pay someone to reinstall everything. But most of all Good Luck. When you step in the door, stop and eye's widen you have probably found your new home.
ReplyDeleteAnon,
DeleteA lot of good info and advice, thanks!
No, the Horses aren't coming with us, They'll either stay with the new owners of our property or be returned to Animal Rescue to find new owners. They're a little hard to take care of as we get older.
Wow, that house sale story is eye opening. Glad he got caught.

Regarding Iranian sleeper agents here, well, duh. We also have several hundred thousand sleeper agents of the Communist Chinese Party here, most with military service experience, that are called "students" and, apparently, said agents voted overwhelmingly for Biden in the 2020 election (but we were told there was no outside interference nor cheating, right...)
ReplyDeleteBut back to the Iranians. They haven't used them before probably because they know that will be a bridge too far, so to speak. Now that they're up against the wall, well... yeah... be careful out there. Standard proclamation of 'don't go to crowded places' and such. It is what it is.
Sounds like you skated out of a bad deal with that first house. Hope you and yours finds your new dream home quickly so you can move during the heat of the summer...
Beans,
DeleteIt has been a hot one so far, but at least it's humid. I don't think I've ever moved without it being hot as hades or raining like Noah. Ah well!
juvat
Yep, good on them for taking care of 'business'... Good luck with finding what you want AND getting what you want out of your place!
ReplyDeleteJim,
DeleteOne can hope!
