Well, last day of Christmas vacation. Which will lead into the January vacation, to be followed by the February vacation, ad infinitum (and beyond).
Rob mentioned something about there being a difference between being retired and being on vacation. For some, perhaps, that rings true. I, on the other hand, have always been a huge fan of the so-called "stay-cation." That is, one does not go to work, instead one stays at home and engages in leisurely activities.
I consider retired life to be one long vacation, interspersed with trips to places away from home, which some might call vacation. Tomato, tomahto. Or something ...
Anyhoo, it's been great fun hanging out in Maryland with the kids and the grands, but they are not retired and for them, life returns to "normal" next week. Work for the adults, school for the young'uns. Probably best not to have the elders underfoot so they can get back to their regular routine. (I mean the grands are being horribly spoiled by their grandmother, and okay, moi aussi.)
'Tis a longish haul back to the North, but it ain't like I have to hurry. According to the news, Little Rhody hasn't gone anywhere and last I checked ...
I'm retired.
Nope, not tired of saying that just yet. But I have learned to restrain myself around members of the gotta-go-to-work class. Sort of ...
I mean I get such nasty looks.
Ciao!
Editor's Note: The opening photo is a gardening/water feature place we visited on this trip. Lots of beautiful koi and cool statues. The Missus Herself indicated a certain interest in some of the statuary, I did too, until I saw the prices. Perhaps I should learn how to make statues out of concrete. I mean why not? I've got the time because ...
... You guessed it, I'm retired. (Don't look at me like that!)
I just this morning had a daughter & grandsons head out to the airport, they have to get back to their life.
ReplyDeleteSafe travels if you're heading home today!
Saturday we travel, today we chill.
DeleteLOL!!! Looks like your "Period of Adjust5ment" to retired life was about one cup of coffee long.
ReplyDeleteSearch "Moulds for concrete statues" for laughs and grins.
It was about that long.
DeleteThat great big grin on a senior's face 24/7 is a giveaway that they're newly retired Sarge, nice to NOT to have to wake up early on weekday.....:) Safe travels!
ReplyDeleteSleeping in is always a plus. Sometimes it means just not having to set the alarm.
Delete"Nope, not tired of saying that just yet. But I have learned to restrain myself around members of the gotta-go-to-work class. Sort of ..."
ReplyDeleteSpeaking on behalf of the gotta-go-to-work class, I do not begrudge you your long "vacation" at all. In fact, very inspirational for looking at numbers and things and starting to ask questions harder...
I like setting the example. 😎
DeleteHe's a quick learner.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the club!
Safe travels.

Great club! Glad to be here!
DeleteBeen retired since August. Folks keep asking me if I have gotten tired of being retired yet...um...Hell, No!! has been my answer so far.
ReplyDeleteIt snowed yesterday. Lake effect, which means it started out slowly, drifting down, gently and then five minutes later I couldn't see to the end of my driveway. By mid-afternoon there was a smidge over 3 inches out there. It was great! I didn't have to go anywhere. I could STAY HOME. Instead of having to go out and drive all over Saratoga county.
It was AWESOME!!!
I do like being on vacation--I mean being retired! :)
Enjoy!!!
Suz
It's really awesome so far.
DeleteSarge, I’m pretty sure your ex- colleagues are not giving you “Nasty” looks rather they’re giving you “Jealous” looks. Subtle yet distinct difference.
ReplyDeletejuvat
I'll run with that interpretation. 😁
DeleteThe Misses Herself isn't retired and may have plans for the hours now available from the "job".
ReplyDeleteShe can plan all she likes. If one half of the team doesn't feel like pulling the wagon, the wagon's not moving.
DeleteAs someone who. has been retired since the turn of the century, here's what wisdom I impart: "Let your body retire for a while (sleep in), let your frustration with things retire. Don't let your mind or your thinking cap retire. Although no one cares what you have to say, think it and say it anyway and watch them squirm!"
ReplyDeleteOur wives will continue to be practical and sensitive, but we can approach the horizon with crazy ideas and they'll either say "he's crazy" or "it's just the ale speaking." Wives will stick with you to the end and you will grow closer with care. You've past the "mid-life crisis (and the red car). So approach old age with an attitude and a smile to back it up.
Loving all who read here, Fuzz (D4).
Sound wisdom, LtFuzz!
DeleteLtFuzz,
DeleteThat really is sound advice. You’re a wise man and, undoubtedly listened to the woman in your life. As Sarge said…Sound Wisdom!

DeleteEven better, being retired means that if you're tired of driving, you can stop at a convenient hotel/motel and break a long 1 day drive into 2 days. Tired from the grandkids? Take an extra day. Always wanted to see something you've driven past before? Stop and take an extra day. Too many morons on the road at that particular time? Take an extra day.
ReplyDeleteI mean, the fish pond will wait. So will your book collection.
Taking my time, my new mantra.
DeleteThat right there was the hardest thing to learn...
DeleteI come by that naturally.
DeleteI've been on vacation for 3 1/2 years now. I could get used to this.
ReplyDeleteRight?
DeleteI've appreciated the training on being retired from you and Juvat, as well as commenters here. I look forward to practicing over the next 6 years until I turn professional like you.
ReplyDeletePractice hard, retire easy. 😎
